I'm a total graphing calculator noob.
Can anyone link me on how to downgrade it?
The 3.0.2 firmware was built in.
Even if I can't, what are the pros and cons to using Ndless?
-
Wait.
EDIT : ok, a little bit short : Wait for Ndless 3.0 =)
-
I'm not understanding.
Will Ndless 3.0 work on 3.0.2?
And, what exactly does Ndless do?

Ndless 3.0 which is not released but will (planed, ExtendeD seems to get it) work on OSes 3.0.x
Ndless lets you execute native code (ASM/C) on the TI-Nspire that is not available by default. TI-Basic's functions sucks.
A good alternative to more powerfull function of the TI-Basic is to use the built-in Lua API.

It allows you to program in languages other than the standard BASIC (and Lua?).
I think it lets you use Asm and C+
Edit: ninj'd

How do I do that?
I have no idea how to do any of this, and google isn't bring up many good results.

He's saying that you can't yet, but you will be able to once the new version of Ndless is released

We told you that you have to wait for Ndless 3.0.
The TI-Nspire CX haven't been opened to Ndless yet.

Oh okay. Thanks.
But, I can use Lua?

Yes ! =)
-
And where do I get LUA apps?

And where do I get LUA apps?
Where you want ... here or on ti-bank (http://ti.bank.free.fr), tutorials on inspired-lua (http://www.inspired-lua.org)
-
Lineofdeath2, you should go introduce yourself (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=10.0)!
-
I will.
Also, I'm not really a programmer. I just want to learn how to run games at the moment.

That used to be me, but then I became interested in the process of making games and other programs. ;D

Used to be me too but then I realized that programming would allow me to make my own games, exactly like I want them to be. In fact, I started by modifying an ugly game (and that race game turned into Guitar Hero ???)
-
Any updates?
-
You'll know when Ndless 3 comes out, it'll probably be on the front page of most TI calc programming forums (including omni) :P
I've heard it's in the debugging phase tho, so maybe a month or two? Idk how close it is precisely, tbh :/
-
hopefully
-
So does ne1 know how to run games on ti nspire cx i tried to google it but got so confused ???
-
For now, the Nspire CX (CAS) can just run Lua games.

For now, the Nspire CX (CAS) can just run Lua games.
And TI-Nspire Basic, but that's hardly worth mentioning :P

What games can lua run? And how can I install it?
-
Any TI-Nspire game where the download description states that it was written in Lua. Lua comes included in the calculator. To send files to your calc you would need to read the instructions that comes with your transfer software (TI-Nspire Student Software)
Welcome on the forums by the way. :)
-
Lua is a programming language (see http://www.inspired-lua.org (http://www.inspired-lua.org)) and TI made it available on their Nspire with OS 3.0+.
You can do any type of program with this language (games, educational stuff, utilities etc.).
You can find some Lua programs here, on ticalc.org etc.
-
Basic and Lua are the only languages supported on the Nspire CX. (for now x) )
Nspire Basic is really bad for games, but Lua, this new possibility on OS 3.0, is quite good !
So you can find games in this language, and there are the only one you can launch on your Nspire.
For example, this brand new game : Pacman ! :D

EDIT : wow I'm too slow. xD

Here are more: http://hackspire.unsads.com/wiki/index.php/Lua_Programs
-
Oh nice I didn't know there was a list there. Lua games are spread accross the community because a lot of the developers don't upload their stuff on ticalc.org and the rest is spread between Omni and TI-BANK (the latter of which is down). There are even files that are not even in any download section I think.
-
What about game emulators like n64 or gbc. I heard there was a program for the old nspire called gbc4nspire but it runs on ndless. And are the lua games in color or black and white?
-
The Lua games are in color on the CX, grayscale on the Clickpad & Touchpad. But Lua on the Nspire, as a special case of purely interpreted language on an embedded platform, is way too slow (one, two or maybe three orders of magnitude) to make GameBoy or NES emulators.
-
Could anyone please walk me through how download and run lua?
-
Run Lua on the Nspire ? Transfer existing Lua documents suitable for Nspires (under TNS format) to your Nspire, and open them :)
Such Lua documents can be created, for instance, with Luna.
-
How do I do that? Do I need TI-Nspire Student Software?
-
TI-Nspire Computer Link Software, TI-Nspire Computer Software, or TILP II 1.16 beta do the job.
-
Ok how do i transfer lua files to an Nspire CX? Can I do it with the student software?
-
JOKER gbc4nspire also runs GBC games and there's a NES emulator too. I bet a SNES or Sega Genesis emu could be done, but N64 would probably be out of the question. Also those have to be done in ASM or C, because Lua is just too slow for them.
And yes student software can do it, assuming you got a recent version.
By the way is TILP II 1.16 beta compatible with the CX?
-
I wanted gbc4inspire but i thought it only worked with ndless? And yes I think I have the most recent version of student software.
-
Yes it only works with ndless. There's no way to use gbc4nspire/ndless on OS 3.x as of now and there probably won't for at least the next few months, that's for sure.
-
Ok so I'm still completely lost on what I have to do to get LUA programs to my Nspire CX???
-
By the way is TILP II 1.16 beta compatible with the CX?
Yup, it can transfer OS (which TINCLS can do, IIRC) and take screenshots (which TINCLS definitely cannot do). But for instance, TILP II 1.16 Beta still chokes on nested folders, and that is not so easy to fix.
JOKER: what about checking the documentation of the programs (TINCLS, TINCS, TILP II 1.16 beta) mentioned by DJ and I ? ;)
-

You just need OS 3.0.X. Lua programs are native to the Nspires. so Just download any .tns file with a script made in Lua and you're good to go.
-
He has a Nspire CX, so he does have OS 3.0 anyway ;)
-
Ok I'm not all confused anymore i just don't know how to how to save a file to my Nspire? Sorry about all my questions but I just got it last week so I'm still learning how to use it.
-
get the computer software to just transfer the file to the device
-
Let's try with this game :
1) Download it : Pacman Lua (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=downfile&id=714)
2) Open Student Software for example, and open the .tns file you've just dowloaded.
3) You can already play on the emulator ! ;)
4) To transfer on your calc :
* File>Save on the handheld (or something like this.. It's in french for me.) (after making sure it is pluged :p)
* Select the device
* Select the folder and the name of the file.
* Click OK ! :)
And then you can play on your calc ! ;)
-
3) You can already play on the emulator ! ;)
TINspire Computer Software is not an emulator :p
-
...
More of a simulator, but he got the point.

Ti Nspire Computer Software is only a ... software ? The TI Nspire "Software". The same that you have on your calc, only a software. Only because it is specific for the calc, it is called an OS, and for the Computer, a "Computer Software".
-
Sure.. ^^ When I program, I have always to try on the student software in calculator mode, then in computer mode, then on the device.. And there is always a problem in one of this mode which isn't in an other one.. --'

I am right now writing a tutorial I'll post later on Inspired-Lua about making a script app compatible with all kind of devices :D
