Title: Lost Legends Status
Post by: liazon on September 21, 2008, 12:31:03 am
sadly, I need to find someone to take over.  the next chance for me to work on this could be a long ways off (and each time i look back at the code, i find something annoyingly wrong w/ it and start rewriting it lol).  not to mention i can't seem to get ticonnect or tilp to work either   it's been a good run though.

please PM me if you are interested.

Aw this sucks it had to be cancelled :( I was really looking forward for it :(, I kinda expected it when you started having problem setting up environment in linux though, I feared you would lose interest over the time then no longer have time. I hope you still come around from time to time though or that you reconsider and maybe resume work on it later, another semester or during summer

I hope someone can continue it. Else, if the worst have to happen and no one can continue it maybe I could try doing some soft of TI-BASIC+xLIB incarnation of Lost Legends one day, but then it would require me to do a lot of modifications on the tilemaps and gui to make it feasible in such limited language. Despite that I still think I owe something about this project though, because it is partially my fault if it died (Omnimaga shutting down, then the temp board closing/site closing, my argument with Grendel when he blew up at me about the shut down then he blocked me and left the community, which caused you to end up alone on the project, which slowed things down a lot)

=( . I don't have enough ASM knowledge yet to take this on. Otherwise, I would. Maybe someday soon...

Hate to see this happen, what happened to the guy that had made this with graphics etc?? I just want to keep you around :)

any way I could get a picture of this? I'd be interested in seeing what this looks like.

As said in my previous post, he actually left after the shut down in march. I do not want to go into details too much as I have bad memories of this but he said he didn't wanted to have anything to do anymore with the community. Plus, at the time he had very serious life problems, so he had to change his e-mail, AIM and Yahoo address as well as remove himself from the LL project page on google and delete any info of himself from the net

Very sad indeed...Can you post all the graphics/story/code you have, in case you are not around when someone picks this up?

ok I thought it was the same one...There used to be a thread on Omnimaga, but it most have gotten deleted or something when you guys left. It was the project with an original and sequel going on at like almost the same time, at least there were graphics for the sequel out.

It was really Grendel who announced it. He did on Halloween last year while we had an Halo 3 skin instead of our normal Omnimaga forum skin. Liazon and Halifax decided to work on the coding while Grendel made the graphics/story and I myself translated the text in french, but then Halifax left developpement so it was practically only liazon. I do not have any script myself but when I get some time I could post the maps I got, since I still have everything from the old Omnimaga forums except the forums database (which Invisionfree still have a copy off)

As for the original posts you will have to wait maybe one more year, because 2 years to get a board restored on Invisionfree is what it seems to take now, if not longer

Could i have a look at the code? I'm starting a game, and I'm sure with your amazing uber game coding skills, I would certainly learn something!

not the best code, but the plans for the game are all in the trunk.

If someone pick this up and want to make a french version I still have the french text. I'm not going to post it though because it will spoil the entire game, but if the new project author plans to make such version he's free to pm me if he wants the script

I wish I could help but... Java doesn't apply in this situation. It really is a shame this shut down though. Now the only thing to be excited about in the world of TI is the Zelda game.

True, and Project M and Robot War (providing this one comes out not only on the TI-82)

Shame this game looked cool. That said im sure it could be easily picked up since its is extremely well planned and some of the coding has begun. I might even have an engine lying around that could be adapted to it O_o.

Well I would be willing to help as long as I have a more experienced coder to help me. I have made a few other utilities since then and my coding skills have improved but I still don't think I could handle it by myself.

I wonder if such game could be done in MLC... but then a 83+ version would be unlikely to happen within a year for sure and the 68k version 6 months at least

I'll code it in z80 ASM. I've saved all the source code on my computer, and I'll adapt my 8x8 tilemapper to it (i don't know the tile dimensions of the artwork, but I'll break it up into 8x8 for the sake of my sanity). I'll post updates here.  However, expect a long ETA, as I don't get around to coding often and I tend to put in time rather intermittenly...

by z80 ASM I assume it also include in app format, right? I think app format would be the right solution for such big game due to graphics. I'm glad you're resuming work on this though, I was sad to see Liazon leave developpement. I'm glad the source was avaliable though with everything else.

I am with kevin on this one, I would love to see the beauty of this project (story + graphics) finished! Good luck sir!

Hey that's good news!, I really would like to see this completed someday. The original tiles are 16x16 BTW.

He can still make it work for 16x16 and still use 8x8s

I think he's planning to change the entire tile/sprite sheet anyway, because as he said on IRC he would like to make this 3 level grayscale instead of 4 level

@Kalan: I know. =)
@DJ Omnimaga, Hmm. I guess we'll just have to see. I hope he keeps it 4 levels though. =)

true, as it would be less work for spriting. More work for coding though.

>_> 3 level would be faster and such.  And since i'm nub at optimization, three level will be slow enough.

well go ahead with 3. I think some tiles might not be that hard to convert. You might just need to do each of them individually

Im glad to see this project is still alive. I remember when it first was announced..ah good times. Can't wait to see it progress.

Yeah at first I thought it was an halloween prank so much it was looking awesome. Quite ironically when Grendel signed up and announced it we had spambot protection disabled and an Halo 3 skin as prank, so some ppl were kinda skeptical too :P

You should talk to Tr1p1ea he's a master at grayscale, and 4 levels is hella fast now. He's working on redoing his Desolate game with 8 level. O_o Also, that way you wouldn't have to convert any sprites at all!

Jim_e from Revsoft, or tr1p1ea from maxcoderz (here and Revsoft also + UTI). Those are the guys with the talent!
