WOW NICE! :D Genius!
-
+1 for the James Bond music! :P
-
I especially like the penguin pajamas that are visible at times during this video.
Anyway, a while back I picked up some source code that Jim_E left behind upon leaving the community, and started making improvements. This is currently what I have, and I'm about ready to pull the code out of msd8x and into a dedicated application.

Wait, I am curious, does this program require use of extra ram pages? I think that some flash drive apps on ti did not work for me because of that x.x
speaking of which, I still need to get that USB converter.... I gave the last one back to my friend..

It does now, sort of. Mine doesn't have extra RAM, if it means anything to you. When it is released, it won't.
-
is there any upper limit for what size flash drives this can handle? if not then i don't think i'll bother buying a new music player :P
-
I'm guessing only FAT16 is supported, which only supports up to 2GB of data.
-
That's correct. However, I've been using a 4 GB flash drive with mild issues. usb8x is fussy.
-
Woo!
Teacher: Brian, what are you doing?
Me: Its a calculator.
Teacher: Why is it playing music?
Me: Because it can.
Can't wait for a release. Hopefully I'll have my new calculator when you do release it. And what about a partitioned flash drive on Fat16 with two 2gb partitions? Do-able?

Not even going to try.
-
Lol true, that would be overly complicated.
-
Sounds awesome! :D

The drive partitioning would be nice, but I'm not sure if too many people would take advantage of it.
-
You. Are. Screwing. With. Me. This is impossible. I...I...*dies*
If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, pajamas and all, I wouldn't believe it. Epic work!
-
Well Done Sir!
-
That's one of the most innovative things I've seen all year for the calc. This will deserve a news article once released for sure. And with 2 gigs I can fit a lot of songs in there especially if they are at reduced quality.

They are wavs though, so don't expect as much as you'd fit with mp3
-
calc84maniac is right, they are pretty big files. Pretty Lights by Total Fascination is the only song I have readily converted at the moment, and it is 5.3 MB.
-
I remember thepenguin saying with his sound player was that he only had so many clock cycles to load each byte of data which made loading from usb difficult. But now that you're probably riding the limit with usb, adding compression would take too much time
-
Definitely no time for compression. However, there is probably time to display video./me runs
-
That would be wicked. But how about an equalizer? That would be cool to display.
-
There already is a sort-of visualization, which you can partially see in the video, which is just a raw stream of the data being played.
Although it wouldn't be as cool as watching The Matrix on your calculator.
-
True, but the file size of the movie would be massive, most likely more than 2gb. Plus how many levels of greyscale would it have to be? Maybe try to implement 7-level gray scale, which has been done with TrueGray (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/341/34172.html), to display videos.
-
No, 4 level grayscale videos. They would be run through special software before-hand, and yes, would be massive (though as I said before, experiments with larger flashdrives works fine).
-
Would 7-level be possible to run at a decent framerate for a video?
-
Maybe video alone, without audio.
-
Hum... What about:
1) have two calculators. One with headphones with an audio file for the movie. the other calc with a movie.
2) play both at same time.
3) have your 7-level gray movie, with audio, little lag
4) ???
5) profit
-
That would work. For the record, 4 level grayscale video with no audio already works.
-
Wow. Thats so cool :D Can't wait. I want to have my new calc by the time you have a nice 'n' stable release.
-
Well, that's pretty cool. Nice job Sir.
-
Nice! Now to get that headphone adapter and USB adapter that I don't have <_< (I really should get them at some point to take advantage of things like this)
It's been two days since the last post, so how's progress? :)
-
This is awesome! Sir, you've done a wonderful job with this. It looks like I may have a new way to impress my friends and/or teachers at school...
Also, Sir, would it be possible for you to redo MSD8x so it works fully on the only-48-kb calcs? Please? ;D

If I get around to it, I might. I have no idea why, of all programs, this one needs extra RAM.
-
BrandonW uses the extra RAM for caching directory listings.

I see. I may have to lose sorting on other calculators, but it should be doable.

Hmm...while you're at it..
How hard would it be to make it so it lists the programs in a way other than just reading through the vat? Sometimes it's so hard just to find a single program...esp. because the appvars are usually before the programs :P

What are you talking about?
-
When you go to send a program to the flash drive, it has a window that pops up and you scroll through the vars to the program/appvar/whetever. Most of the time the stuff is scrambled around.

Oh, that. Sure, I could make a better VAT browser.

What if you ran decompression before the song starts? (Of course, you would have to have enough free memory on the usb to hold one uncompressed song.)
Edit: After thinking about it, it doesn't seem too practical...
-
Cool stuff Sir! Looking good! =)
-
Looks like you made hackaday. \o/ http://hackaday.com/2011/07/31/hackaday-links-july-31-2011/
By the way nice stuff. I didn't notice this until now. Why no playin' my music tho? D: j/k
-
Hooray!
And I'm not playing your music because I didn't think to! I also wanted to get something that was really recognizable as not beeps (not saying your music isn't)
-

O.O :'(
jk it's fine. I think it was best to play a popular song and not a rickroll either, since with a rickroll people would have thought it's fake.
-
My thoughts exactly.
-
Congrats, Sir. :D
-
Well that's awesome :D
-
Nice. Very nice.
Making Hack a Day is always an impressive achievement. :)
-
Yep!
-
wow! Thatz seems impossible but you've really made it!!
+1
So what must I send on my TI if I want to listen to music on a flash drive?
And which music-format should it be?
(I have all cables I need, but not any programs for it) :P
-
he hasn't released a demo.
-
That's why I was wondering - I haven't seen anything to download
when will he upload one?
-
4 pages late, this is awesome! Nice work SirCmpwn!
-
I won't upload one any time soon. As for sound files, they're completely uncompressed, with some special editing done on them, so until I make an automated converter you'll just have to wait.
