Title: New z80 programming contest ! Lot of prizes to win !
Post by: contra-sh on September 29, 2011, 08:07:19 am
Hi,

The zcontest is a z80 programming contest.

There's 3 different categories :
- TI basic
- Basic extended (axe parser, bbc basic, fast rpl etc...)
- Asm

In each category, there's 2 sub categories :
- Tool
- Game

The deadline is the 1rst december.

### The prizes ###

one TI NSPIRE CX CAS, two TI84+ pocket.fr and three TI76.fr.

Thank you to our sponsor TSPromotion (http://www.boutique-calculatrice-ti.com/
More information here : http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/ (french and english version)

Here the announce of the prizes :
Quote
Deeph and myself are proud to announce the prizes.

Our sponsor tspromotion (official website : http://www.tspromotion.fr/   shop  : http://www.boutique-calculatrice-ti.com/ ) will offer very very beautiful gifts !!

Prizes will be distributed like this :

- Each langage is judged alone without taking care about sub categories (game or utility)

- Better project between all langages win a TI-NSPIRE CX CAS !!

- Others winners (2 others categories) win a TI84+ pocket.fr (yes the french pocket version !)

- Second project of all langages win a TI76.fr (another french version especially for english people who can't get it in their country).

So by example it could look like this (assuming TIBASIC will be the better project) :

TIBASIC :
1er : TI-NSPIRE CX CAS
2eme : TI76.fr

BASIC extended :
1er : TI84+ pocket.fr
2eme : TI76.fr

ASM:
1er : TI84+ pocket.fr
2eme : TI76.fr

One more time, thank you to TSP for his generous offers.

Even if there 's beautiful prizes, do not forget that zcontest is a funny contest.
The most important thing is to share knowledge, discussing etc...
But winning a calc is always cool :p

Good luck every one !!!

### How to participate ###

You just had to submit your project on the official website before the first december.
(french and english version available!)
You can also open a dedicated subject in the Yaronet subforum : http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?f=3179

(French and english spoken on Yaronet so don't worry :) )

Here is the rules :
Quote
zContest is a honorific programming contest.

PROGRAM :

Only TI-Basic, extended TI-Basic/Axe Parser/BBC Basic and assembler z80 programs will be accepted, and for the TI 82, 83, 83+ and 84+ only.

The program should be uploaded in a zip file before 1st December 2011, 23:59 (UTC+1) with all necessary files to properly run the program.

A notice must be included in the zip file, which should describe the game and tell us a little about it.
The program can be split into several parts. Any plagiarism will disqualify both the program and participant from the competition.

The program can not have been published before the opening date of the competition, though its publication is allowed during the contest period.

Each participant may submit up to three programs in several categories.

Juries are arranged by category : a judge will test all the programs from at least one category, but no more than three. The judges will be appointed by the contest organizer, postulation free. Qualifications: serious behavior, general knowledge of video games and TI calculators (registration on the website).
It is obviously impossible for a judge to participate in a group s/he judges.
However, a judge may submit a program for a category that s/he does not judge.

No size restriction, but it will be taken into account when grading.

For extended TI-Basic programs, all libraries may be used. It will be necessary to provide the used library in the zip file.

For assembler or Axe Parser programs, the final archive must contain the source code.

CATEGORIES :

There are three categories for the competition :

    * The TI-Basic, using only the TI-Basic functions of the calculator.
    * The extended TI-Basic/Axe Parser/BBC Basic, which use other libraries, as well as the TI-Basic.
    * The assembler, which will be fully programmed in assembler, running under Ion or any other shell, such as MirageOs.

THEME :

The theme is open, the participant has the freedom to choose his/her subject and program as long as it complies with the prescribed rules.

GRADING OF GAMES :

Each jury member will test all the games in his/her category/ies, and an average will be taken from all the grades.
Any bugs will be penalized.

The grading is as follows :

-Gameplay (ownership, interest, pleasure felt playing the game, interface, scenario ...) : /15
-Smooth, speed of execution : /5
-Graphics (graphics, interface menu ...) : /5
-Life : /5
-Originality : /5
-Technical quality (size/games, technical challenge ...) : /5
-Total : /40

GRADING OF UTILITIES :

Each jury member will test all the utilities in his/her category/ies, and an average will be taken from all the grades.
Any bugs will be penalized.

The grading is as follows :

-Usefulness : /15
-Difficulty : /10
-Quality : /5
-Fluidity : /5
-Originality : /5
-Total: /40

The most important thing is not competition but sharing knowledge, discussing and have feedback on your project.
And have fun :D

But win a prize is always cool :D

No need to have a big project, little things are welcome.

There's already some omnimaga's members who participates to the contest, thanks :)

Good luck to everyone !

It looks nice. I didn't enter for the prizes(in fact they weren't any when I registered). I was/am learning axe so I thought it fun right-away to join in a contest. The prizes are fun of course. TSpromotion seems really cool if they give prizes. Thanks TSpromotion!

Cool, this seems fun! Is Grammer allowed to be entered? (It is the programming language) ? My first release was in June or July I believe. Otherwise, I can just try to make a Grammer game! I need game making experience anyways...

D: I'm sorry D:
Also, are we allowed to post images of our programs in our description? I have a lot that I can add D:

EDIT: Also, should I upload the App/program?

Wait a minute...
Are you talking about grammer tool ?
I'm wondering if there's not a problem with this rule :
Quote
The program can not have been published before the opening date of the competition, though its publication is allowed during the contest period.

Because grammer was published before august I think?
(If not, there's no problem !)
Is there really a lot of new features in the version you're thinking posting?

Publishing public release is allowed before contest only if the program is really unfinished (for beta testing purpose by example, or just for open source ideology etc...).

Maybe we could discuss it a little about it...

However, you can upload later the app/program and you can add as many images as you want in the description... :)

EDIT: it's seems grammer wasn't released before the contest period (8 september?). Can you confirm that zeda? If yes forget what I've said before there's no problem and just good luck (I'm not sure if you really need luck to win... :D)

Okay, well Grammer 2 was only recently released, but the first version was released in June :/
The first version was just a program that was the interpreter
Grammer 2 is an APP that also acts as a shell and has other features (like a homerun and more commands and whatnot)

That's what I would know. So there's no problem just good luck and I think there's a good probability that you will win.
But there's sandpaper from Kerm Martian too ... great project ^^
But there's a lot of good projects in fact...

Curious, I've made a lot of ad :)
There's currently about 23 projects, maybe more in the next days.
And a lot of them are really good.

I was about to say the same thing
(you talk about robo-gun? It's a good project I think, but you're right, there's a lot of good projects in extended basic section)
But I can say the same thing too in asm section xD
Anyway there are 3 categories and 2 subcategories (in each category).
So there's in fact a lot of winners even if only 2 or 3 better project in each category got a prize (no distinction between subcategories).
(about prizes : there 6 graphic calc to win : 1 tinspire cx cas, two ti84+pocket.fr, three ti76.fr and probably Texas Instrument goodies for the 3rd places)
However, participating could be just for fun and glory :p

Quote

It was reported to the webmaster (deeph). Only one or two page are buggy, the other works fine...

Then make some adjustments and then publish it again

:D

While we are laughing on it, I will give some further information on it.
A lot of people are wondering if theirs projects could be allowed or not in the zcontest.
Here a small explanation :)

1) In fact the best projects usually need more than 5 month to be developed... So we can't reject projects which were started before the contest period.
2) Along the development, the author usually publish screenies and portion code (or entire project code)...The purpose is usually for debugging/testing/feedback/getting help or just saving his work (prevent hard disk crash by example). And we think that's a good way to develop a program. And we don't want to encourage secret devel...So no problem to publish code before contest. But the project musn't be finished !!!

So there's no problem if a project was started before the contest.
It can be published before the contest but in any case we want to see an already released and completely FINISHED project to be presented.
But don't try to present a project finished in 2008 or 2009 :)
If you decide to modificate just few things to say "no it's a new program/version" it's a real cheat, and that's not allowed :p
In fact this rule prevent to see a project from several years ago to be presented.

If you released a project in august or september or later, you can present it even if you haven't made any modifications.
If you released a finished project before august, you can entering the contest only if the new version is the result of a lot of works and if there are really a lot of new features etc...

edit: cross with hayleia : 8 august that's ok of course ! Your project seems really incredible and it's a french game?!? Are you hilaia from the "site du zero" ?

@epic7 : New account is the best way :)

Try to logout then : http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?l=en (http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?l=en)

When you're logged in, you can't change the langage.
Yes there's a little problem with this, but the webmaster haven't had the time to modify it at the moment.

For the judges, no problem, simply I need to remember who want to judge.
Parser padawan : basic and assembly (a project in axe ??! xD)
TBO_YEONG : basic
epic7 : you want to judge which langage?

@Haleya : Don't forget to create a project page on zcontest http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?a=projets&l=en (http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?a=projets&l=en) website and eventually on yaronet subforum : http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?s=&f=3179 (http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?s=&f=3179)

@Haleya : Don't forget to create a project page on zcontest http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?a=projets&l=en (http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/?a=projets&l=en) website and eventually on yaronet subforum : http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?s=&f=3179 (http://www.yaronet.com/sujets.php?s=&f=3179)
(D: My name D:)

Erm, do I need an account for that ?
(Also I may need to ask my parents first :P)

Under My Account is where you submit a new project. Projects has a list of all the entered projects so far.

EDIT: Of all of the users

The other pages should work fine :)

I made my project page.
Now one question: Do I really have to give the source code, or can I send it to an admin by email ? (I don't trust anybody :P)

And why does my project page on the other site have bugs?

No, I don't believe so, but you can to discuss your project.(which you actually can do on tiforge too).

Never got the activation email?? That's weird...
Create a topic on yaronet subforum is optional.

Hayleia : You can send it by email the first december before the deadline if you don't want to publish it... But why do you refuse to publish it?

Yes there's really 2 or 3 buggy pages. And some problem on some comments too. Waiting deeph for website's corrections...

Good luck for the last days ...

Hayleia : You can send it by email the first december before the deadline if you don't want to publish it... But why do you refuse to publish it?
Because that won't help anyone:
-Good coders don't need it ;)
-Novice coders won't learn anything from my unoptimized and uncommented code D:
-Stupid guys could put their name in the credits section (and I am not only talking about removing my name, but also removing other's names).

I only want to give it to people I can trust (like to you by email).
It is not that I don't trust the community, but that I don't trust people that are not from the community.

If you don't trust anyone from outside this community, then you can always release it in the private matters section. It's invisible to guests and users with a post number below the limit (of which I think it's 100).

And then we come back to the two first points ;)

-Novice coders won't learn anything from my unoptimized and uncommented code D:

The fact is not that I don't want to help, just that I don't think it helps. It is uncommented, all routinized so you understand nothing, etc. But If someone needs help for something that is in my prog (for example, display pokemon's images in battle), I can share the concerned part of the code. That would help. Sharing the whole thing wouldn't. And I am still afraid of code-stealers :P

Exactly.

Sorry for the bugs, I haven't access to the website code source :(
I will create a topic here and on cemetech and on yaronet to talk about judging part.

For the final archive : by mail or on the website, the only thing is to send final archives in time :)

It says that for everyone. Deeph said that he was going to fix it but that you still can upload as a "non final upload". You just need to have uploaded something I think.

Ok. I'm trying to do the team for graduating the project.

For me it was this morning, but deeph extended it to this evening because of trouble with ftp access. :(

Ok. I'm trying to do the team for graduating the projects...

Currently here's the team :
basic :
- yeongJIN_COOL (en)
- Le solutionneur (fr)
- parser padawan (en)
- epic7 (en)

hybrid :
- Contra (me) (fr)
- aetios (en)
- noelthebest (fr)
- We need at least 1 persons (at least 1 english people)

asm:
- mdr1 (fr)
- aetios (en)
- deep thought (en)
- epic 7 (en)
- ryzum (??)

Who want to judge?

edit : if someone don't want I judge because I'm in the staff , just say it and I offer my place to someone else :)
edit : add aetios and deep thought
edit : add epic7, parser padawan, noelthebest and ryzum

Normally, you should do that. But it's just to see if it's optimized or not or something else.
No need to understand the entire program.
Are you ok? Should I add your name in the list?
