There's a wave of OS 1.1 nostalgia with the release of OS 2.1...
-> Nleash v1.0 (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/430/43033.html)
([edit] the link now points to ticalc.org's archives)
[edit] If this is not clear enough in the documentation: Do not try to downgrade a TouchPad TI-Nspire to OS 1.1 with a TouchPad keypad. You need a ClickPad keypad to run OS 1.1.
-
*cough*for those with no 1.1*cough*PM m3 with email*cough*
Mods feel free to edit if not appropriate to put in forum. -EDIT (DJ Omnimaga) The Game.
EDIT: Nice job! I think I'll get an Nspire now. (instead of 89t)
can you downgrade from a touchpad 2.1?
-
Yes for non-CAS, with a classic ClickPad.
-
Oh wow.... I should've thought of that in the first place! :-o
I've just examined the TNS file, and surprise - a beautiful &&&&&&&&&& (censored against TI, but for those who know will know what I'm talking about),
which probably forces it to reinstall an OS.
(It's usually a dirty prank, but this turned out to be an exploit!)
I just wonder how the OS was able to open a standard zip file...
Anyway, great job ExtendeD! :D
-
Well done!
Does this mean that once OS 1.1 is installed, you could go back to, say, OS 1.3 (below 1.7) without running Nleash? Or would you need to run it again in order to change operating systems (to something below 1.7, that is)?
-
As long as you don't reinstall OS 2.1, there's no downgrade protection.
This seems not to be true for TouchPad though: after an upgrade to OS 2.0, you may need to upgrade to OS 2.1 and run Nleash.
-
Beautiful ExtendeD!!!!!
This is an excellent attack against TI. Remember TI, you can't stop us, we will always find a way around your evil attacks!
-
This is good news.
I wonder if in the future there will be a way to run OS 1.1 on touchpad keyboards, with a program to remap the keys or something?
-
Here's the TI-Bank news with photos and even a video -> http://ti.bank.free.fr/index.php?mod=news&ac=commentaires&id=844
It's a great day...
We just broke free from TI.

Excellent work. :D
I'm amused at the tendency to start all names with an 'N' :P
-
Awesome critor!
-
Great work guys! I knew an exploit would be found! ;D
-
This is great, not thazt I instaled 2.1 XD
-
Awesome news! Great pic cirtor, I'm lov'in it XD
I can't wait to get a nspire, hopefully it'll be soon :D
-
i tried this with the touchpad non-CAS with 2.0, and it keeps going through the start up over and over again. how can i put it back?
-
Nleash is only compatible with OS 2.1 as stated in the ReadMe file, although this infinite startup is strange. Please follow the procedure described in the troubleshooting section of the documentation.

Did you go through the installation of a 1.X OS ?
If yes, did you replace your TouchPad keypad ?
As mentionned in the TI-Bank news ( http://ti.bank.free.fr/844 ) you need a ClickPad keypad.
The TI-Nspire TouchPad basic keeps rebooting if you use a 1.X OS with a TouchPad keypad.
-
Hmmm, a bit off topic, but, I dont think TI can really fight against Nleash.
One question though
To get past the downgrade protection, doesnt that require asm of some sort? I mean, there is no way for nsprire basic to accomplish that. If so, this means that the .tns is executing asm, without ndless?

yeah i red the readme, and it says "If the TI-Nspire becomes unusable:
* Enter the maintenance menu by rebooting it while holding the keys
ON+Home+Enter+P until half the progress bar. To reboot the TI-Nspire, unplug
the USB cable, then remove and put back a battery.
* Select '2' to uninstall the current OS. Reinstall it when asked to."
arent on and home the same button? i cant get that to work. oh and earlier i tried to install 1.1 without Nleash and failed, if thats relevant.
-
First, to clarify your last statement, it is impossible to install OS 1.1 without Nleash.
Since you are saying that home and on are the same buttons, I am assuming that you are using the touchpad. The keypad mappings are different for the touchpad than the clickpad. Your only option is to buy a clickpad from TI or wait for someone who knows this key combo for the touchpad to post it.
-
OH, i found it here: http://groups.google.com/group/tinspire/browse_thread/thread/865517b23b55584d?pli=1 its actually Doc+Enter+EE then On.
-
Ok, well i installed 2.1 and it works fine. so i put the Nleash in and started it up, everything went the way the readme said it would, so then i installed the 1.1, and its doing the infinite startup again. i think i might just have a bad copy of 1.1. could anyone email me it?
-
you can't distribute an OS, so no one can e-mail it to you.
-
You can't install OS 1.1 anyway without the clickpad. You have to buy the clickpad and replace the touchpad with it, else OS 1.1 won't run, the software does not support the touchpad hardware. ;) Even if you do install it, without extensive modification to both the hardware and the software, the touchpad won't work. (But if you could make it work, you will have the TI-Community's thanks :))
-
ohhh i found the problem, the readme says:
"TouchPad TI-Nspires can be downgraded to OS 1.x with the help of Nleash and a
non-CAS ClickPad. Nleash must be run for every OS 2.0 to 1.x downgrade on these
models."
I don't have a clickpad, and i bought mine used, so i couldnt get the free one. anyone know the cheapest way to get one?

if your lucky, you might find one on ebay, but most of the time it's just the 84 keypad or the click pad, 84 key keypad and the Nspire. You could go on a trading website and swap your touchpad for a Clickpad. Anyone not in the TI community would do that.
EDIT: to be more specific: here: http://epsstore.ti.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?section=11211&item=76072&JServSessionIdrootdlek22=yj9zv1whp1.n6LzoN8M/AzOnMTOogTxpQOUtxCLbx0Ka0--
-
could i use the 84 keypad?
-
no, I don't think so. But why would you need to? They're the same price.
-
No, you can't run the Nspire OS with the 84 keypad.
-
Ok, well i guess im set, thanks alot, everyone!
