Title: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 07, 2012, 09:34:31 pm
Visit the OmnimagaTV YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/omnimagatv)
The OmnimagaTV channel is making progress, and now we're ready to start uploading videos!

Channel Admins:

What videos you can submit:
You're welcome to submit any kind of calculator-related videos.
Some examples would be game speedruns, walkthroughs, reviews, and programming tutorials.
Computer tutorials/projects in the community may also be submitted, but the majority will be calculator-related.
For the time being, videos showcasing community music will not be accepted. You're still free to put your music inside your videos, though.
Videos are not strictly limited to these; if you have a good idea for an Omnimaga video, don't be afraid to share it!

When making your video:
When recording the calculator screen, using an emulator is reccomended, unless you can get a high-quality recording on camera.

Also, you'll want to put this intro in the beginning of your video.
http://134.0.27.190/OmnimagaTVIntro.avi
If you're not able to attach the intro, you can ask an admin to do it, as explained in next.

How to upload your videos:
In order to prevent giving out the password to the YouTube channel, you can upload your videos to <a href=http://ruler501git.tk/omni/upload.html>this server</a>, hosted by ruler501.

The video file that you select must be under 200MB, and you'll have to send a special request to an admin for videos exceeding that limit.

The acceptable video formats are mp4, wmv, avi, and flv.

Secondly, you'll need to attach a .txt file. The text file should follow this general format:

Your username:
Title:
Description: [Add what the video is about, any appropriate links, and don't forget to put credits for any music that is used]
Tags: [Optional]
Edit requests: [Optional. If you need your video to be edited, or need to have the intro added on, say so in this field and I, or another admin, can take care of it for you]

Once you submit those files, and assuming the admins approve your video, it'll then be uploaded to the OmnimagaTV channel.

(If anyone thinks anything here should be changed, say so!)

Just wondering, would you rather we add an endcard, or you add an endcard. I don’t want you to slave over something when we could do it, but it might be better for the videos to be slightly more uniform. Or is an endcard even that important?
(an endcard being that thing that says subscribe, like, visit omnimaga.org, previous video, related video.)
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 07, 2012, 10:05:16 pm
If there's an intro/endcard up for download and you can easily add them, I think that you could attach them and it would still be pretty uniform

You should specify which video formats are allowed. IMHO WMV and most AVI files should be.

Also tags should probably be essential, with some default tags specified in the first post, along with the ones related directly to the video and the calculator model. They tend to be kinda necessary for search optimization.

EDIT: From the channel, why am I unable to subcribe to Annoyingcalc (Bell4cow)?? O.O

If we do make a video, do we introduce ourselves like, "Hello, I'm [insert username here] from OmnimagaTV...", or "Hello, I'm [insert username here] from Omnimaga..."?
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 07, 2012, 10:14:54 pm
I guess you can say from Omnimaga as well, or Omnimaga dot org. And you don't necessarily have to talk. Another good thing would be to put Leafy's intro at the start of the vid and/or the site URL.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 07, 2012, 10:17:46 pm
I think the admins should just add whatever default tags they need to add, and then just copy paste the rest.

Personally, I don’t think I would say that I’m from omnimaga tv, because the intro and the channel name would say that. To me, it would seem weird to say that I am from omnimaga in a video, but whatever floats your boat.
And in any tutorial that I made, I would at sometime show omnimaga.org, but that is because I would only be doing nspire tutorials, and this website is much more important for nspires.

Post by: ruler501 on December 07, 2012, 10:48:28 pm
You can also upload .flv videos currently. If that is a less usable format I can remove that option.
EDIT: and just as a small note both the video and text file together have to be under 200mb so you can't cut it close

Why not just support as many video file types as possible, i mean, if you have only the ability to do one certain filetype....

I got a question: Do all vids need the omnimagatv intro/ending or is it enough to just mention www.omnimaga.org in the vid?
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 08, 2012, 04:29:40 pm
I think we should keep the intro in all the videos, personally.
Do we even haven an outro?

I guess someone should make that, and I'll add a download link for that and the intro in the first post

Not a bad idea, yeong :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 08, 2012, 04:40:10 pm
but is the intro in 1080p? :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 04:44:12 pm
You can always use the same intro for both, or use a shorter one for the ending.

EDIT: The admins above now have the new channel password.

Does anyone know how to automatically share videos with your Youtube friends without pming them one by one? I know some ppl often pm me with new vid uploads, but I don't know how they do it besides adding me as friend first.

Not that I know of.
Who here wants to make one? :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 05:58:29 pm
Also please no abuse of annotations lol. Sometimes, some authors will edit their old popular vids to almost fill the entire video screen with annotations linking to random vids and plenty of links to get them to win free ipods and all that junk, and it gets annoying when you can't close them down since you can't see anything. The small icon in the bottom right corner like most TV networks would be a nice addition, though.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 08, 2012, 06:00:37 pm
I agree with the annotations, and dj, in future you can just hit the speach bubble in the bottom bar that one will turn all off :P
I also like the small tv network icon (even thought i think it would be in top-left corner :P)
that means 2/5 admins are for that, lol, only the other have to vote now, i think juju and epic7 are against it, but am not sure.....
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 08, 2012, 06:08:13 pm
Hm, actually it doesn't seem like a bad idea.
Makes the videos seem a bit more legit :P
I don't like the idea of it being in the top-left, though :P
We should do bottom-right.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 08, 2012, 06:28:30 pm
That would make 3/5 = more than 50% i'll try to look to make it bottom-right :P
EDIT: bottom-right is possible, we just need a good icon (don't forget the alpha channel) (can somebody create it?)
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 06:33:18 pm
I think the icon is a square (since it uses your avatar)
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 08, 2012, 06:34:11 pm
It allows you to do a custom icon, so could somebody create a awesome icon please? :D
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 08, 2012, 06:38:17 pm
Wat? So YouTube has a setting to attach an icon so editing it in is not necessary?
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 06:43:52 pm
Yep (it doesn't show up for people with annotations disabled, though).

The icon is 60x60 it seems, so just change the Omni avatar to a 60x60 icon. Might be nice to do something old skool.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 08, 2012, 06:44:31 pm
ok, i'll also do a transparent background :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 06:47:45 pm
Does Youtube even support transparency though? Also I might try to make an icon, but I don't know how that will turn out. It's hard to fit the Omnimaga logo in a non multiple of 47 pixels width, let alone a square, because the logo is so wide.

Currently the channel has some placeholder thing looked like Spyro's and Omni logo, but I bet it should probably be changed, since it doesn't seem to look that great.

EDIT: Added a modified version of Spyro's logo below

I also edited my post above adding a modified version of Spyro543's logo, in case anybody finds it of any use. I removed the yellow and stuff.

that is epic

Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 08, 2012, 07:47:21 pm
Lol. You should thank Spyro for the original (see other topics) though since it was him who made the original. I just edited the colors then remade a smaller logo that is 60x60.

Another idea could be to actually use the modified Spyro logo at 600 pixel width and use that as channel icon/video icon. Not sure how great it will look like in browsers that do not support anti aliasing for scaled down pics, though.

Maybe we could use that big logo for an endcard

That would be pretty cool

I'm gonna try to make some kind of animated thing, although it's probably gonna look like crap :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

At first I saw the title and thought one of you made a new intro, then saw the channel name and thought shoot, somebody made some competition, then saw the video and felt better.

Sorry for the fuzziness, but I didn’t know how to batch enlarge images without resampling, with nothing but paint and irfanview

Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

What do you want it to be? The only software I have is lightworks, Moviemaker, paint and picasa, so I can’t do anything very special But if it only requires hardwork, I’ll give it my best.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 09, 2012, 03:49:46 pm
How would that look?
Tetris Omni alongside a Subscribe and Previous Video button?
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 09, 2012, 03:51:29 pm
I would not do a previous button with vid-preview as that would require a different outro per video
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 09, 2012, 03:53:55 pm
Yeah, it would be rather annoying to edit in the previous video into the outro for every video, like some channels do.

Seems nice, but it would be better if it was resized to 480p or even 1080p with nearest neightboor enabled instead of bilinear/bicubic filtering, so it won't look like the vid was ripped from a '80s VHS tape.
Hm, that's pretty cool :D

I also tried to make an endcard, but it looks like crap. (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/93019118/Untitled.png)
Not too sure about the background to be honest. And the calc has plenty of white stuff surrounding it. Maybe it would be better to have a black background with something such as Spyro's logo moving in the video from the right corner from a further distance, then stopping, like a car.

Otherwise the Tetris like thing above might do.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: epic7 on December 09, 2012, 04:10:53 pm
Yeah, I couldn't get transparency right on the calculator

I like the tetris better :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 09, 2012, 04:47:01 pm
So I thought of a few ideas if you want to integrate tetris into an outro and still make it look nice.

Just use the video-of course fixed to not be fuzzy, but it wouldn’t have any subscribe or next video things

Have the animation on a background of tetris tiles, but with the other things for the outro. Though I don’t know how you would integrate subscribe onto a tile background

Have the animation on top of another outro
This would look awkward

Have the animation, then have it decrease into the top left corner and the outro and rest of omnimaga title is displayed
Maybe

Have the animation occur in the top left corner, and the rest of the title and outro is either already there or fades in when the animation is done.
Maybe
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Sorunome on December 09, 2012, 04:48:23 pm
i would be for last with fading in, and IMO a subscribe thingy isn't too important :P
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 09, 2012, 05:04:58 pm
But the rest of it, how would it look?
And I fixed the video

This was my quick idea of what the top title might be
And if anyone wants the last frame to test it out themselves

Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 09, 2012, 05:53:26 pm
I'll see if I can get rid of that white junk around the logo. Hold on...

Also I think the arrows looks too unprofessional. It would be nice if it at least looked a minimum professional or fitting with calcs.

EDIT Decided to try something different, since the top seemed kinda off D:. What about this for the outtro? (I also got rid of the blur for the most part).

As for the video above, what about making it zome out at the end then once it stops at half its original size the OmnimagaTV logo shows up?

Do you have each frame from the images/animation used in your video? I might attempt showing you what I mean. I would prefer the original 81x81 pics like the PNG you posted a few posts above, though.

Oh ok I wasn't sure what you used. WHat is the original framerate btw? Also I just convert the frames to a 1920x1080 gif then use VirtualDub. I'll use an image editor for the zooming out.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 09, 2012, 07:29:24 pm
.03 seconds for 1-137, .5 for 138, 2 for 139 with a fade-in transition.
So if you need fps you can just use 30.

ok thanks :)

EDIT: Here's my edit with the effect I was talking about:

http://djomni.julosoft.net/omnimagatvintro720p.avi

I have a 1080p too but I don't think Juju has a lot of diskspace there. I might upload one elsewhere at one point. It was compressed in MPEG-4 format. There's no audio yet, though. I considered using parts of a track I made or even a quickly made-up song intro.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 09, 2012, 09:46:46 pm
Very nice, though is that an intro or an outro?
And I never much played the game before, so I don't think I lost it.

By the way, do you think the video should be speed up 2x (except maybe the part where nothing moves?). It's a bit long I think, still.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

I think the Tetris part is a bit too long.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on December 10, 2012, 01:56:26 pm
I don’t mind 8 second intros when I’m watching YouTube videos, but I guess you should probably increase the speed of the tetris 1.5x or 2x. But I think the rest is okay
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on December 10, 2012, 02:38:28 pm
I'll see what I can do. Someone complained that the intro looks too retro, but I felt that it's a calc site after all. :P (plus if someone finds the intro too retro, it's most likely someone who only play games for graphics and will not like calc quality games anyway :P)

I found an old video of Metroid II Evolution/Last Chozo ending on one of my hard drives. I wonder if I should upload it on OmnimagaTV? (by making sure to end the vid before the special secret thing appears after the credits). For now I'll use either Leafy's intro or a speeded up version of the one made by me and Rhombicuboctahedron
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: leafy on December 12, 2012, 02:12:51 am
Use yours for now, I'll work on trying to make it a bit more modern while still keeping that retro theme.

EDIT:
I made a quick logo. Tell me if you're okay with the idea, or if you're not, what you think it should be changed to. I just want to get some things out of the way before I start working on the actual intro.
NOTE: This isn't supposed to be colored yet, just the outline of the logo.

Here's my idea for the intro:
Start with one pixel flickering onto the screen, then flies backwards, revealing a space full of pixels flashing on and off. Within one or two seconds it'll fly out to the main logo, which'll then flicker off after half a second or so.

Leafy, I'd say forget color. Our calcs. don't have any newfangled color! Why should our intro need it? :P Also, looks like a good start style wise. :D

Maybe it could be the greenish background with blue pixels or something to fit in with the omni theme? On the 83+ series they can be made to burn a distinct blue after all :P

Idea sounds awesome btw.  Maybe the pixel could start flickering over the video itself, and during the zoom-out the background dissolves in or something?
E: that's be more of an outro, nvm

Or you could make the background color a bit more blue-ish. To judge I would need to see the intro in action, though, since I'm more visual.

I made a short animation in blender with the omni logo. It has those better graphics that some were complaining about. It isn’t an intro or any finished product of course, but I was thinking of making a better animation for an outro, or possibly making an animated intro video, as in a couple minute video that is basically a long intro showing various things about omnimaga.
I don’t know. What do you think?

Well the on-calc logo (from 2003) uses exactly the on-calc fonts, while on the PC logo, the pi is indeed longer, and the m looks different. You might want to choose one of both and make sure they're not mixed, lol.

Also I like that animation Rhombicuboctahedron, although I would probably make it less dark.

Just wondering, have you thought about what to do to upload a video over 200 MB?
My only idea would to create another server that is only allowed by special request, or since you can probably trust me, you could give me the password.
I doubt any of my videos will be over 200 MB, but I’m working on one now that is about 6 minutes, and if I finish and it is over 8 minutes, and I add sound, it might be over 200 MB.

Lol thanks. It's a very old animation from August 2003 or so actually. It was in Illusiat 2004 but never used again afterward due to how large it is. It was incredibly hard to make because I wanted every part to be skippable. I also couldn't get a 84+SE capture of this until now because WabbitEmu used to not emulate screen shift.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on January 13, 2013, 06:47:45 pm
So I while I was fiddling with some animation today I remembered that there was no outro for the omnimagatv. Of course, an outro is not as important as an intro, and I think leafy was making something, and moreover this was kind of for fun.

Other ideas I thought of while doing this might be to have the logo melt into water, or have it form from water, or have a fish tank with blue lobsters break and the water and lobsters splash over the logo (if I knew how to make lobsters)
Though that is all too complex. We could just keep the one leafy made some time ago, or make another simple one, (maybe some form of that intro a few posts up.) Or, no outro at all, since it is far from necessary. And someday I need to make a video for this channel (tested my ability at making a tutorial, and I stutter. Made a speed run of portal but am 7 levels incomplete )

Here is a second version.  Indeed the three seconds at the end look quite cool, but too short in my opinion
What do you think I could try to do for like and subscribe? I could have the projectiles continue outwards to more text but the files already pretty laggy as it is. I could have the like and subscribe labels in the animation on the floor. Or I could add it afterwards over it, and have it all fade to black.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos
Post by: Rhombicuboctahedron on January 13, 2013, 10:29:19 pm

So I rendered it out. (final? testrun?)
The first is at 30 fps, the second is the first video at 2x speed, so 60fps
I tried seeing what it would look like having the background be a subscribe text, but it was getting laggy, and it didn’t look too good.
Anyway, what do you think of the textures? I can make them any color, and make them mirrors, glossy, glass, ect.
And for the subscribe and like, it might just be better to blackout to them, or have them appear on the screen.

The second is faster (read the post above)
Also, I didn’t really know how the tv should look. I could make it text probably, or more pixel text. I have no idea if it is possible to extrude images to make it the omnimaga tv logo, so I just settled for the omnimaga logo
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

Omnimaga outro, now with the like, comment and subscribe text.
I was thinking if I should add visit omnimaga.org in there, but I thought that might be too awkward
I don’t know, it seems kind of cheesy to me, but I don’t really know what would be better
Unless you wanted me render it in cycles, so that it might look a little bit better, but on my computer that would take a week of rendering probably.
And maybe somebody might want to add sound, maybe music, or maybe some phwoosh sound when the text goes by

This.

Also random thought: a hole/multiple holes could explode in a wall serving as the background (or something similar) showing subscribe, like, other vid etc behind it.
Another: guessing blender doesn't work like this but maybe the explosion could be made more pixelated. Something like cubes maybe?

What do you mean by real-time? I believe real time is 24 fps, and the video is in 30 fps. However, when saving the animated physics from the game maker it slows it down considerably. I could probably have fixed this, but probably only by changing the fps in blender. So really it comes down to you all deciding what speed you want it, unless I timed the acceleration due to gravity and deduced the slowness of the video. Then again I have to check if I left gravity at 1, 9.8 or 10 in blender.

Also random thought: a hole/multiple holes could explode in a wall serving as the background (or something similar) showing subscribe, like, other vid etc behind it.
Well the file was already pretty laggy with only the cubes and prisms making up the omnimaga logo. Making a wall of them would be a lagging nightmare

Something like cubes maybe?
I could make a whole wall of cubes though, and then have that break.
Here’s an example

And here’s a really quick render of what it might be like

Does the outro necessarily have to be done in blender? Flat pixels (or pixels in general) might be easier with flash or similar.

Or maybe it could be made at a small resolution and just scaled up, no supersampling :P might be obvious tho

It doesn’t need to be done in blender, but that is the only software I have to do anything in. If someone with better software wants to make an outro, by all means go ahead
Or maybe it could be made at a small resolution and just scaled up, no supersampling :P might be obvious tho
Good idea. For some reason I was thinking that I would need some special pixelating affect in some software, but I forgot that I could just lower the image size
It is normally at 1920*1080, the first is 768*432, and the second is 384*216, and both at 30 fps
It kind of gives it that 90’s pixelated game look.

I am terrible with sound. I tried making a file on audacity with some free sound affects, and it sounded clanky and random. If anybody would like to add sound to one of the outro’s I made, that would be nice. Moreover, you could just add music like you did to the intro.

Ah I see. I don't know then. As for an explosion I am unsure if using an explosion as sound would be a good idea, since it would just scare people when the video uses smooth music or a song that ends smoothly.

What speed do you want, and Sorunome, the “margin” is gone in some of the videos
Don’t mind the text, I can change that speed to match what we want, but forgot to take that part out of the videos.
Also, any of you have any ideas about the buttons at the end? I think they are annoying, but maybe I could play around with color, font, size, position and ending picture to try to make it better.
And I forgot an “r” at the end of the video
I don’t know, #5 looks cool, and #7 might be nice with that cube wall discussed above

Okay, I’m going to quickly recreate it. Do you want it all to be in 72 fps, or do you want the end text to be at a different speed?

Can you make the end text a little slower? How about 40fps? The shattering can be 72.

It has a bug when rendering in hd videos, that if the vid is to long it noms all your ram and instead of saying not enough ram it says file not found >.<

Well, its really good for making stop motion videos, and since I save blender animations and images, I use this. Do you know of anything better?

Sadly, though, linux isn’t letting me log in, and I’ve been too lazy to fix it.

There was this one program I had to make stop motion animations.  The name of it completely slipped my mind. It was free and for Windows.

Hi, I was just wondering, I’m trying to make a tutorial for the nspire for the channel (though I might end up failing) but what kind, if any, music should I use in the background? Also, does it matter too much if I am not the best speaker? I don’t have a squeaking voice or bad microphone, but I have a small slur and very unemotional voice.

Also, I extracted the sound from the video above and added it to an HD video, so that I have a better ending.

Well, that’s seems too mechanical techno dance like for a tutorial, as I always thought that tutorial music should not be very noticeable.
I might just end up using some classical musical.
Title: Re: OmnimagaTV- How to upload your videos

Then some classical music (you find tones on yt) or no music at all.

Question: Where can I download an outtrop with sound? EDIT: Actually nevermind, I just used a Youtube downloader.

Hi, I was just wondering, I’m trying to make a tutorial for the nspire for the channel (though I might end up failing) but what kind, if any, music should I use in the background? If you make a spoken tutorial for programming, then I don't think there should be any music in the background. Classical might fit if it doesn't have those sudden "anger outbursts" that risks drowning out your speaking. For short tutorials like sending files you could use some music like in some of the Youtube adwords ads or the quick video game reviews seen there.

Avoid music with lyrics, especially shi... er I mean hip hop, since the spoken vocals will easily drown out the tutorial like people were talking in the background, and avoid music that makes you excited like death metal that might make it hard to concentrate. Tutorial music should be calm too.

uh, kdenlive supportes those xD
lemme convert it to a mp4 then
EDIT: Done (only that it is avi now >.<)

Why not an AVI file? Windows movie maker can only open AVI and WMV files and VirtualDub can only open AVI files.

It turned out being a AVI now, i only thought of mp4 because that was the format of the old link. And It turned out as AVI because I culdn't get ffmpeg to convert from m2t to mp4, but to AVI worked :)
Do I make sence?
