Project ideas?
« on: July 03, 2010, 11:35:00 pm »
I am thinking about taking on a project, however, I don't have a very good idea of what I want to do yet.  I will probably do something in Basic or possibly in ASM or Axe (these would take longer, as I would be learning as I go).  Any suggestions/comments/thoughts/ideas(/hatemail) would be nice 8).

well, it depends upon your strengths. if you're very proficient in basic, maybe make a platformer like Exodus? Axe isn't too difficult to learn so maybe you could try making a simple RPG, to get used to tilemapping, pointers and hex in Axe. i'm not sure about ASM though, since i don't program in it i don't know a good starting point. You could always go with very simple games such as snake and pong, if you haven't already.

I made a sick minesweeper game in basic with a pause screen and several other awesome features, but I never optimized it.  It ended up being over 2000 bytes. :P

It would be nice to have a Tunnel-style racing game but more elaborate/detailled than just a scrolling tunnel that always goes at the same speed. Maybe a tunnel with custom wall tiles too?
