Anybody know what happened to revsoft.org? It seems to be down, but both KermM and Netham45 checked and revsoft.org expires in 2012.
-
Hmm strange, it worked a few days ago so it must have went down recently. I think they might have forgotten to pay the hosting bill, because last year the same thing happened around this time of the year. Forgetting to pay hosting bill seems likely seems I didn't see many posts lately, meaning the staff were busy. You should contact Madskillz.
-
I know RS is done, has been like that since yesterday. I sent Kevin an email about paying the hosting, because I'm sure he forgot. But it's goofy because we didn't renew the hosting until August of last year so it should still be good until then. I'm looking into it, but for now any wabbit updates will be posted on codeplex. With the down time though I should be able to implement a new mainpage finally when we do come back up.
Sorry for the inconvenience for anybody that does visit the site! We are working to get it back up as soon as possible.

-
Sorry to hear. I hope it's back soon again. Last year they lost a lot of activity afterward. :(
-
It went down yesterday or the day before, I'm not sure exactly. At least it looks like Kevin will be easier to get a hold of this time if it's a hosting issue. He posted a few days ago didn't he?
-
I don't think we could lose anymore activity DJ ha, we're pretty much at the low end of the spectrum already.

But you still have some good projects. Any idea when revsoft.org will be back?
-
For some reason the auto-billing didn't kick in, it was taken care of yesterday. Sometime this week I am sure we will be back up.
-
I see. I hope your domain name won't do the same at one point. I remember Rivereye Studios died because the domain name company didn't renew the domain name despire Rivereye having enabled auto-renewal and paid a year in advance. He contacted them and never got any response.

Good, not too long then :)
-
@Madskillz: Good to hear that you guys will be back in business shortly. :)
-
Yay, it's back! :w00t:

www.revsoft.org (http://www.revsoft.org) Yap it's back.
-
It is back, I checked yesterday and it wasn't back yet. I must have just missed it.
-
It's gone again D:
-
I can confirm this.
-
me too
-
Yeah it has been gone for another while now. I wonder if they forgot to pay the bill or if something else happened.
-
Jim e still owns the place. But his majesty left us years ago :[ So we cant move hosting...
-
This sucks, I wonder why doesn't he give it to Madskillz or something, who seems to be around more. I think once it gets back up Madskillz or someone else should move it on his server or host.
-
Sure, Madskillz is the right guy, but without Jim (we were unable to contact him in the past, and will be in the future) I see no chance to move ownership of the domain. For me this is quite a disaster, I have a lot of stuff there...
-
It sucks you can't contact him at all. X.x I don't really want to see RS go down x.x.
Has anyone have access to the forum database, even if not very recent? Someone could possibly host it elsewhere then. It will still suck about the data loss, though...
I sure hope that if Netham45 ever becomes too busy to manage Omni hosting that he'll have pre-emptively given full access to the files to other admins, so they can at least move the site if the host was to disappear....
-

And has the site been backed up before?
-
Major backups exist iirc. Still something needs to be done...
-
Poor Revsoft :<
Seems Wayback machine isn't much help, last catch they did was Oct of 09. :/
Hopefully something is done soon. If anyone has a backup, could we get it posted somewhere, at least temporarily?
-
Really? :O That sucks. Archive doesn't seem to update their cache often. I know the latest Omni cache, if we add index.php to the URL, is from August 2010, but in late 2010 I remember it was still the Invisionfree site.
In any case, what would be nice is maybe a temporary location. After all, MaxCoderz did that back in 2004 when they got hacked. Dwedit had a temporary board hosted to keep that part of the community alive.
-
I do have a backup from like a month ago I think...I was thinking about temporarily opening a forum somewhere. It's still a possibility.
-
If you'd like some free hosting in that regard, would be more than glad to help you guys out.
-
I love this community. It took one day and tifreak set everything up: http://revolutionsoftware.org/
I'll keep you updated.
-
Wow awesome, nice job tifreak, and I'm glad it now has a new (regardless of if temporary or not) location.
By the way are you planning to integrate the front page with the forums?
-
By the way are you planning to integrate the front page with the forums?
I think that'd be a great idea. As I see it, the front page seemed too static, like there was no activity anywhere on the site.
-
Yeah the issue is that often when a site has a forum with calc project news, people use it more then tend to forget about the front page. Back in the days MaxCoderz front page sometimes had no news for months, even though their forums were lively.
-
Yes, we will show current announcements and links to the latest posts. Very simple, hopefully.
-
Heh, it's no big deal, I have a ton of space that's being paid for and not used, might as well contribute to the community in some way :)
-
How much space does 1and1 offers now by the way?
Also I can't wait to see some content in that new URL :P
-
Used Disk Space : 1.13 MB of 10,000.00 MB (activated) - max. available: 150,000.00 MB*
Is what it tells me.
-
That is tiny! Is that with all those tutorials and everything? O.O
-
Any updates on this? Whois shows that Jim e sill owns the domain name, so is there some server trouble?
-
Apparently the domain expired, and
Jim e still owns the place. But his majesty left us years ago :[ So we cant move hosting...
:(
-
I hope we can get it back. :/
-
We are back.
But It seems that all backups are gone *!$&@#?!§/
Help us resurrect at: http://revsoft.tifreakware.net/
We are still setting up, but you can post feedback and your advice which subforums we should create and other ideas you might have.
I cant even remember all staff members to send emails to :/
-
I re-registered about a week ago, and I really like the new theme.
-
There were no single backup at all, even from Madskillz? O.O This sucks :/
In any case if you restart new you should probably create sub-forums mainly from the active projects first, though, then only add the other projects once they resurrected, so it doesn't look emptier.
-
It's sad that there are no backups. :(
They had so many great tutorials.
-
They did? ???
Anyway, there are some archived copies over at web.archive.org (http://web.archive.org/web/20100722033216/http://www.revsoft.org/). It won't help much for the forum, but there's some stuff from the (older) phpBB2 (http://web.archive.org/web/20091003191959/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB2/) forum and just two from the (newer) phpBB3 (http://web.archive.org/web/20101027205636/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB3/) version, in case that helps :)
-
I'M still surprised there were no backups, though. I was sure Madskillz said somewhere there were some. Maybe he lost them or something. IIRC they were not much recent either.
-
No backups? >:( Damn, that sucks. I'll have to head over there and rejoin shortly.
-
Well, there's this: http://web.archive.org/web/20091003191959/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB2/
It's not as good as a backup, but it's better than nothing.
-
Wow, thanks DT and ralphdspam. This saves my ass, since most of Wizards progress was well, before 2010 I guess :)
Still, an SQL backup would be much more helpful in terms of copying...

True, but if someone has they time they can now go through every post that's there and manually convert it to SQL (or make a script to do that). Unfortunately I doubt it'll help much because WayBack doesn't do much spidering, and a lot of individual threads probably got missed :/Well, there's this: http://web.archive.org/web/20091003191959/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB2/

There a capture of the phpBB3 site as well (see previous page).
WayBack's down now though :(
-
I signed up too. Nice look.
-
Okay, here's everything the Web Archive (WayBack) has for the phpBB3 version:
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB3/* (http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB3/*)
And everything for phpBB2:
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB3/* (http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/phpBB3/*)
And absolutely everything it has for revsoft.org:
http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/* (http://wayback.archive.org/web/*/http://www.revsoft.org/*)

the links aren't parsed correct.
-
Edit-ninja'd :)
-
lol. I won. (did I?)
Also more ppl should register. its too quiet there.
-
Nope, the edit was first, but I lost anyway :P
Anyway, more members would be great. Who knows, maybe the domain crisis'll somehow make activity pick up.
-
The first 100 registered users get a cookie ;)
-
That reminds me, guys, if you check the 2008 archives, Revsoft had PSP development boards for a while O.O
Also Deep Thought what do you mean by domain crysis?
-

Woops I meant Crysys. I mean I was wondering what did you mean by "Domain crysys"
Also is it me or was the site running extremely slow last night?
-
Yeah i think it is quite slow this morning too
-
Suggestion for a major Revsoft improvement:
-a Ticalc.org release (not necessarily a bug-free/final version) of WabbitEmu. A lot of new members here and Cemetech thinks VTI is the only available (or best) TI-83+ emulator on the web because when they arrive on ticalc.org, they won't find WabbitEmu there and they won't necessarily find Revsoft right away (especially now that Revsoft switched URL and that WabbitEmu switched URLs a year ago). I bet that if the readme contains the URL of the new site, you'll get a lot more traffic (and members).
-Update Wizards readme on ticalc.org with the new URL. Do the same with every other Revsoft release.
-

Depends on whether we get the domain back though, right? And I agree about releasing Wabbit on ticalc. It took me a while before I found my way to CodePlex, and back then I did think VTI was the only emu available.
-
Well, given that the one who got the original domain is out of reach since a year or two ago, I doubt this will ever happen. In the past RS got a lot of traffic and I'm sure some bot will squat it the second it goes on sale then sell it for $200.
-

You mean the revsoft/tifreakware domain? For me it's not entirely fast either.
Also I don't plan on getting the old domain back :( .
Cookies for everybody!
-

That's too bad. Having your own domain always beats being on a subdomain :/
-
To maybe lure a few people: I uploaded a new Wizards version here: http://revsoft.tifreakware.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=25 and showed a new game here: http://revsoft.tifreakware.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=26 :)
-
Cool, I'll have to check it out when I'm back home Monday or Tuesday. :)
-
Just subscribed to the two major news boards. Hope that helps me be more involved in the revival :)
-
I am sorry for the necropost (I always am but this is rather important) but it has come to my attention that revsoft.org is down and does not show on google's search engine in any results. Sad day :(
-
Read the last few posts—they've lost the domain name revsoft.org, and the site is now located at revsoft.tifreakware.net.
-
^This. :)

It's okay. Your post was relevant to the topic. =)
