Title: the top 25-50 games in TI-73 thru TI-84+SE history
Post by: skuller972 on March 28, 2009, 12:42:52 pm
What are the top 25-50 games in TI-73 thru TI-84+SE history?

Is there a list somewhere that i have overlooked, or has this never been asked upon?

There are articles on the best RPG's, and every competent calculator gamesman knows of the prestige of the legendary Phoenix by Patrick Davidson.

But are there other games worthy of praise still wallowing amongst the beginning BASIC programmer's dreams of fame (AKA some beginner's crap that they uploaded to ticalc.org)

heh phoenix isn't even that great of a game. sorry to burst your bubble. It's good, but not in my top 5. I'd have to look through all the good games again sometime to pick the top 25 or so games.

Phoenix was the shit back in the days, because back in the 90s, there weren,t a lot of better games for z80 calcs. But it dropped in many people favourite lists when Gemini, Fire Track and advanced ASM games with grayscale and other awesome goodies came out. Plus, people making 100 clones of phoenix, flooding TIcalc.org archives, made the game reputation drop, as often you'll get the wrong version and most are crap.

I don't have much of a top 20 myself, but Final Fantasy: Tales Of Magic 2 is still my favourite calculator game. Then comes Gemini 3D

yeah i hate the phoenix clones, that is why i only download phoenix related stuff from Patrick Davidson's page, or the phoenix levels (there arent many levels, just clones)

Just to note, my list is only of the Top 20 most influential game, and I made that a long time ago.

At any rate, Phoenix is famous, and that doesn't make it a great game, but it is in fact a great game. Usually I can never put down Phoenix until I finish the game and have all the weapons. Then I just go through about 2 or 3 more times destroying everything. Phoenix would definitely make it into my top 5, I don't see how it couldn't.

Either way, the list is basically impossible to create.

@TI-newb: you need to get the program, ALCDFIX, because the screen is slanted like this on many games without using this program. my biggest frustration before i got it was the donkey kong title page. it was broken into 16x16 squares and each one to the right was down one from where it was supossed to be. when you run it, it fixes the lcd and you wont have to run it again unless the ram is cleared, so keep it archived just in case.

all slanted games get fixed with this program but it doesnt fix big games, only cleaning up archive programs you dont need and deleting all unneeded ram stuff will fix that, i had the same problem with gemini
ill get a link up soon

oh ye. Thanks. Although i don't think i'll use it. XD Sorry about not saying thanks.

I don't think im gonna try Gemini again. * u reminded me how big it is.. and to play it i will have to like archive all my ram.

no! dont archive your ram, cuz it still takes up some ram, so clear out all the games youve beaten and probably wont play again, archive all big variables like pics, and then clear all of the rest of the variables that arent very important. how i do this is go to memory management and scroll down and see if i really need each thing. if you have 22800 or so ram, thats almost good enough, just as long as you have slightly more ram than the size of gemini

what i meant was archive the programs i was working on. I don't usually keep games on cause they are anoying when i go edit my own prgms.. .. when u press prgm i get a habit on finding the program under Exc. and then when i have my cursor over it. i press right> to Edit. and then lol. ye..
