Title: TI-1000 project... hoax or not?
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 10, 2010, 01:10:10 am
I found some posts by a guy going under the JBB initials on www.ticalcs.net and www.ticalc.org where he asks if anyone got news about a certain TI-1000 project, which would be a new TI calc supposed to replace the TI-Nspire series or solve some of its issues. However, I searched Google and all I found about the TI-1000 was a 1977 calc on http://www.datamath.org/BASIC/TI-1000/TI-1000g.htm . The posts in question are located at http://forum.ticalcs.net/showthread.php?tid=1326 and at the bottom of the WFRNG TI-Nspire port news article: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/news/articles/14/146/146660.html

Since only one person has asked this so far and since the Nspire Touchpad just came out less than a year ago, I am wondering if it's just a hoax? I would have sweared that someone would have brought it up on the Nspire Google group by now. Anyone know anything about this? Maybe TI-1000 is a typo and he meant something else?

Hoax. Definitely. Unless the person involved is affiliated with TI, in which case he would not have asked for information.

This seems to be a hoax from my view, but I would not be surprized if we saw either a new calc or a radical change with the Nspire (color screen?) in response to the Casio PRIZM.  Possibly at T^3 this might be announced??

THE CAKE IS A LIE!

I dont beleive it... TI is on the dark side and would not make anything like that...

Yeah, the TI-1000 thing is definately a hoax.  TI doesn't seem to care about us anymore, they just care about the money they make from people who buy the Ti84SE's for $50 more than a 83 just because it looks cooler, yet they have no idea how to program it for their lives.  Plus, most of TI's revenue doesn't come from calculators really.

Thing is, I researched it and realized it really isn't too hard to make a z80 processor based calculator have a 255 color screen; TI could've done it a while ago.  Apparently it doesn't cost that much more than making a machine with a monochrome screen these days...

That said, maybe they are planning a new TI-Nspire model (maybe TI-Nspire 1000?) that will be like the others, but with color display? That said, even if they made the Nspire more powerful I am sure it would remain locked down like the current ones and that the color screen would be poor quality.

Yeah, I'm sure will still be the same control freak it is now even with a color calc.  Yeah, you're right, they probably started the planning the day the prizm news was release :)

Glad OT Calcs are programmer oriented.  ;)

I'm almost positive it's a hoax, unless they read about the TI-1000 somewhere and thought it was an update? The more likely possibility was some random guy creating a hoax and choosing "1000" as a number that's sufficiently larger than 84 :P

If TI releases a replacement for the Nspire, I doubt they'll give it a TI-XX model number :D
