Title: Ticalc.org
Post by: Insanity on April 09, 2007, 02:59:00 pm
Why does Ticalc.org still continue to accept files that they already have probably gigabytes of, specifically the million solvers that basically do the same thing, and crappy -- IMO -- things like http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/396/39656.html, http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/396/39617.html, and http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/392/39208.html?

I see nothing wrong with it, I mean who's to say where to draw the line.

Solvers I agree with, but that's the way most people learn to program.

hmm, I don't really think all these nub programs are a good thing. I mean, it's great that people are learning to program and have made them, but do they really need to be published online? I've made copious amounts of basic math programs and haven't uploaded any of them anywhere. I am not so naive as to think they could actually be useful to someone other than myself.

I agree with Spengo in a sense, but ticalc.org is encouraging programming. If you just got into programming you may think it is the coolest thing what you just did and later on may say wow that sucked. But to get your program denied with a big fat NO is harsh and at least people are downloading those programs because that makes people feel good. What if when Spencer P. or Patrick D. were noobs they got their program denied and stop programming. Then where would Zelda and Phoenix be?? That's the thing. You may close someone's dream and possibly one of the greatest careers with that simple NO. So I believe their should not be a line drawn because although the present may look bleak the future looks brighter.

On another note I agree with you. It is pointless that all these noobs upload these programs and somehow thinking that they will help someone per say. It is just stupid all the accounts I see that have these crap basic math programs thrown in them and nothing else of stature.

So I remian on the fence in this subject.

Maybe there should be a Noobs section... ^_^

Well, maybe instead of a big fat NO reply, a polite decline message that includes helpful advice and encouragement would be in order.

yes, my first program was a 15k screen inverting program. Now, I can do it in 5 lines.

Lol, that would be so mean!

I think that people that are learning to program should refrain from posting every single program right away. Rather, if they want to publish it, they should publish it as a collection (such as "So and so's program collection"). Ticalc could surely make this as a seperate category.

And like Spengo has said, I too have written many math programs, but I realize that they are useless to most people. Hopefully, others understand this and don't bother uploading more Quadratic Solvers.

maybe I should start one here, and start by putting your programs there? Now tell me how you feel if your programs are labeled n00b?

i agree, i think many people dont actually have a grasp at thier level of programming. if you start editing games instead of making useless stuff then you'll grasp your level quicker.

Its a similar problem at school. im sorta the best with a calculator in the small school, so kids always want to give me thier programs, i have trouble telling them i dont want it. i resolved it by filling my calc up to the brim with an unarchived TVF and then saying i dont have room ;] but i doubt ticalc could use the same tactic.

"sorry, we are......out of space, ya. Nope no room at al for your 600byte program, nope full to the brim with an unarchived version of TVF. ya sorry, we have a 24000 byte holding capactity"
