Title: Tl-Nspire OS 3.0 coming today?
Post by: GB on March 20, 2011, 12:34:57 pm
Right now, at 12:32 PM EDT where I'm at, TI's Nspire web site says it's down for maintanance till 1:00 EDT (12:00 CDT). I wonder if it's down to change things for the new TI-Nspire system. What do you all think?

I think it was already available before for some reason.

It's impossible, Bush, but I'm not sure.

Ooh, I didn't think of that! I noticed it was down, but I didn't realize that it might be linked with a large update...

I haven't seen education.ti.com down much in many years so it's got to be something important. We'll just have to wait and see what it is.

I believe I saw it down before, maybe they're redesigning their site or something?

Also I noticed for the past weeks that the calculator info pages no longer worked in Opera when accessed from the drop-downs on the calculator list section. Maybe they're fixing a few site bugs?

It's looking like their site is back up. No Nspire System 3.0 yet. I wonder if it'll be released maybe at the start of April?

Yeah I see no changes. They were probably recoding some stuff as some pages that stopped working now works.

Yap, nothing new here (http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/homePage/index.html).

Question, anyone knows if the thing about "Features a dedicated programming environment as well as programming libraries for global access to user-defined functions & programs" that is on http://education.ti.com/educationportal/sites/US/productDetail/us_nspire_cx.html?bid=5 was already there since the beginning?

That clause describes pretty well what's already on the TI-Nspire. There's a program editor, and programming libraries already. You just can't do too much with this "dedicated programming environment".

I just hope they add some more I/O commands, especially some menu commands. If they do, then I might consider porting over Jack Game.

Yes. I saw it on the day the CX was announced.

Ah ok, well then I guess there's nothing new. Also GB on an off-topic note are you planning to announce your projects updates here eventually? :D

I plan on doing so once I reach 40 posts so I can place them in the archive. That ought to happen pretty shortly.

Aaah ok. Well, make sure they got some form of graphics, though, or ASCII art, since the archives doesn't accept text-based games. Otherwise you can always post a new topic, though.

Jack Game, the TI-Nspire Mouse Glitch and Hidden Character programs are mainly text based, but Jack Game is still a good game. It got so big that I had to write it in all caps to save on memory. As of now, it's about 18 kilobytes of 100% Basic, mainly menus and disp commands.

I also plan on writing a TI-86 version of Jack Game, and another special character program for that model as well.

Bugs with some CAS functions have allready been reported in the 3.0 OS that should be released tomorrow:

http://tibank.forumactif.com/t6864-os-30-buggue (in french)

It's possible that many CAS oriented documents won't work any more on this OS.

But TI just doesn't care, as usual.
(I've reported a TI-83/83+/84+ bug with complex numbers 2 years ago... the result is just wrong! It's still not corrected, although new OSes are still being released worldwide, and new TI-83 harware are still being released for France...)

I've had the imaginary number problem myself. It is usually wrong, maybe it's so students don't "cheat" with their calcs in class :P

Hmm I hope they fixed the bugs in the version that is supposedly coming out and that the other version was a bit older.

I see. Well I guess I'll try them out and see if I can approve them. Keep in mind that files are ran through some sort of quality control before uploading to the archives, though. Not saying your files might be bad, but we want to make sure people won't flood the archives with text-based games, annoying the living hell out of visitors in desesperate need of an actual graphical game.

This is probably one of the reasons why we've started to make a calculator (OTZ80) - because we want it done right, both mathematically and freedom-wise! (I've just realized that now after almost a year - no worries, we'll be alive and kickin' again this summer!)

Lol yeah true, and offering a good price vs hardware ratio. I mean... both the Prizm and CX having bugs on launch??

I still think we should move away from z80 tech though. There are better options that only cost a few $ more, and are twice to four times as powerful. Plus, most of them will have C support. :)

But that's for a diff. topic.

Seems they have changed alot.
In comparison with 2.0.1, the boot2 is smaller and the OS is much bigger (~3 MB)  O.O

EDIT:
Lol, looks like one of the developers was mad while writing strings...
Code: [Select]
BTIO_LIB: BTIO_Device_SendCmdAndGetResponse() : Cmd=0x%X, ret=0x%X received!!!!!!!

When you remove the boot2 and the sample files with TNOC, the size fall down to 7Mo vs 5Mo for the 2.1.
Thus, doing this enables you to downgrade later.
