Yesterday evening, NeoCrisis reported, on TI-Planet, about his attempts at using a NDS rechargeable battery for powering a Nspire Touchpad calculator, instead of an official (and more expensive) battery.
Short story: it seems that it can work :)
More information, in French, at http://tiplanet.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=8638 . Note that he hasn't tested every possible situation yet, and the slightly thicker form factor of the NDS's battery seems to require using a bit of mechanical force to plug the cover back in.

The article is pretty detailed, and is as a result lengthy. I guess he hasn't had time to translate it completely yet (and I don't have it either right now), but I think that it will be translated soon. The article contains links to French-speaking sites for buying such batteries.

Needless to say, reproducing his experiments is at your own risk ;)

first of all, here are the pics:

i saw this, and tbh, kinda like it :) it can be a huge difference in price (official batteries are ~=40, DS ~=15).
sadly enough this won't work on the cx i think, since that one has two extra cables (4 in total), probably for extra loading security (?)

there's only one thing i don't get:

that doesn't matter? mAh is the amount of 'power' it contains, thus it will live longer than the 1000mAh's, it won't give too much to the calc, or does it?

That looks interesting.

And yeah, the 2000mAh only means the battery will live 2x longer. The batteries only have to match the voltage (V) and the amperage (A) to be less or equal to the official batteries to be compatible. So if the V and A of the NDS battery matches the one of the Nspire, you can safely interchange them.

Of course, if you do not take care, something will probably explode.

Nick, you're wrong.
Actually, the 4 pins are present on the TI-Nspire2.2 PCB. The 2 ones at the top are -, the 2 others are +. They aren't DATA pins ;) there are + to be used as power, - to be used as power, + to recharge, - to recharge. There's just 1 wire for 2 pins.

I will publish an article in English very soon, i still have to make the Proof of Concept video, to add watermarks, and to add a few pics.

By the way Nick, as clearly explained on TI-Planet's news, the pics are my total PROPERTY, and nobody can use them without my permission....

and who talked about data pins? i said loading security, that means for loading, isn't it?
