Title: Dual-layer ASCII and color behavior on Casio CFX-9850G
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on January 13, 2011, 04:03:57 am
I am currently experimenting with dual-layer ASCII on the Casio CFX-9850G calculator to see if it works and it appears to do so, although some colors behave differently than others. For example, when recalling the picture, blue has priority over green and orange has priority over everything else.

And yeah as you might guess, recalling a pic doesn't use the overwrite logic, so pixels that are turned off in the pic won't turn OFF pixels in the screen when recalled. This means dual-layer ASCII is possible on this calc, although the colors have different priority on each others and only small fonts can be used on graph screen.

I'll probably try to experiment more when I am bored. I wonder if BASIC pics will behave the same way on the prizm, if available...

This is a really good find :D I think we will hopefully be able to use this to be able to create nice looking color graphics  ^^ although with the tricky overwrite, it could be difficult to find good combinations.  I look forward to further development in this area :)

THis is for the 9850G, though, not the Prizm ???

Also sorry I posted FX, while it should be CFX. My bad...

No problem. Also I'm trying to figure out how to recall pics on the Prizm, but I guess dual-layer ASCII will be impractical if graphing draw commands on it are so slow. I guess dual-layer ASCII is best for the older models.

Also here's a video of the dual-layer text in action, although it was dark and taken with the ancient batteries (see other pic) that were on the calc when I bought it two years ago, so the blue was more purple-ish and the orange was almost yellow.
