In the early 2000s, Martin Poupe modified his calculator chip to have custom ASM support. However, I never saw anything in the Casio community saying that people actually tried to hack calc data on the computer and send them to their calc to have ASM support like with the TI-73, 82 and 85. Was this ever attempted? If it's even possible to send such modified data to the CFX-9850G, 9950G and I believe 9970G, or if it's possible through hacked linking softwares, imagine what could be the possibilities on a calc supporting colors and individual manipulation of all 3 colors (noticing how changing the contrast of each colors changes the tint as well).
However, these color calcs have been replaced with a blue screen calc, the FX-9750G Plus, several years ago so the audience would be very small. However, the TI-73 audience has been even smaller, yet Micheal Vincent did it, and 12 years after the TI-81 got discontinued, they figured out how to enable ASM support on them.

I don't know anything about the Casio calculators really, but I enjoyed that video because I've always wondered what those color screens were like, especially when changing contrasts (I knew about them but never got to play with one in person). It makes me wonder how they work since they don't seem to work like full-color LCDs nowadays which just use subpixels with red, green, and blue backgrounds.
It seems like a cool screen. I wonder why other calcs didn't use it. Although it seems I've heard a lot of people say that the color screens in those Casios weren't all that great for some reason. It is fascinating, though, and I'm sure some neat things could have been accomplished with it with ASM, depending of course on exactly how the hardware and LCD itself worked.
I suppose that in any complex piece of software like that there might well be a way to unlock ASM programming somehow, especially in light of someone cracking the TI-81 after all this time—and without a link port, even. Discovering things like this takes a lot of creativity; you can never really say that it's impossible with absolute certainty due to the nature of software (just like you can't guarantee that any nontrivial program has absolutely no bugs at all). If there were enough people using Casios like there were with TIs, who knows? it might very well have happened.

My guess is that in the Casio community there were fewer tech-savy people about ASM so no one tried, or they tried and discovered they were as locked down as the TI-Nspire is today. But since these calcs are kinda old, I kinda doubt they added a lot of security measures to prevent them from being hacked. The only thing, though, is that I am curious if any linking software would allow the transfer of modified files to the calculators.
I think the main issue about these colors screens were that they eaten batteries faster and didn't have very high contrast (kinda like the TI-82 and TI-92). Some argue that it made the calcs slower too, but the FX-9750G, which has no color but the same features, are at the same speed, and the AFX 1.0/2.0 are twice slower
I might start a topic about this on Casio forums one day. Only problem, though, is that would anyone be able to figure anything out? There are very few docs about Casio calcs compared to TI calcs and except from Mid-2007 to Mid-2008, they had a smaller userbase than TI models.

bits doesn't necessarly have to do with color depth in console/handleds, though, because the color depth on a calc is generally 1, 2 or 3 bit (I think), but the processors are either 8 or 16 bits depending of the calc model.

I would say maybe 2 bits, since it's 3 colors plus the LCD color. :P
