Title: Should I get a Casio FX-9750GIIwe for $15?
Post by: Roondak on March 23, 2014, 10:23:12 pm
At my local Target, I saw a few Casio FX-9750GIIwe calculators for $15. I've never owned a Casio calculator before, and don't know if this is worth buying. I've heard that you can somehow upgrade it to a 9860, whatever that means. Are there programs for the 9750/9860, and could you link me to a few sites for them?

Yes, get it. It's not that popular and doesn't have as many programs, but $15 is insanely cheap considering it normally costs $49.99-$59.99. I got an FX-9750G+ for $24.75 in 2008 but it's not as great. I wonder if the FX-9750GIIwe can be upgraded to a FX-9860G like the 9750GII did?

And http://www.planet-casio.com/Fr/ has by far the largest FX-9860G program base. Note that in France it's called Graph 35 USB or something (or 75, 85 and 95 if you upgrade it)

Thanks DJ! I think I go pick one up. Do I need to buy some special cable to sync it with PC, or does it come with one?

No idea about the upgrade, but $15 is an awesome price. If nothing else, it'd be fun to fool around with. :D

Pretty much what I thought. Just had to ask about the tooling capability before I bought it.

Also, does anyone have the specs of it? Is it comparable to an 83+?

I think it actually has a higher res (128X64 maybe?) and a faster processor. Not sure about programming capabilities. I know it has BASIC for sure. I'd guess ASM and C as well, because most Casio models seem to support that.

A FX-9750GII at 15€ is totally worth the price if USB (cheap FX-9680 powa), but a Giiwe, don't know what's that.
Anyway, buy it.

Futurama. :D That pic is freaky though. O.O

From what I can tell, the Casio FX-9750GIIwe looks pretty similar to the 9750GII. USB, same res. ect.

All the FXes share the same resolution (except the Graph 25 which is an aberration. How can you see a programmable calc without GetKey? Oo). Give it a shot, and see if you can connect it to fxRemote to dump a ROM on it (a Graph 95 ROM is the best choose, because it supports all of the things that the other calcs does but support even displaying roots in Math mode.)

The TI-80 or TI-81( I forget which) lacks getkey as well. Both of the Sharp graphing calcs I have also lack getkey. Aside from that though, their version of BASIC is extremely similar to TI-BASIC.

Just went and bought it. It seems to connect using mini-USB, of which I have many cables. Here's a few pictures of it:

Welp, it seems that it's visibly the same. Which country do you live in?

Canada.

EDIT: And... I've bricked it. I think I used the wrong file to update it, I'm supposed to use 2_02_0201_sh4.fls as my calculator was on 02.02.701... dang. Won't turn on or anything. Even tried holding the restart button down with F2, 4, and AC. I assumed from the read me attached that I was supposed to use 2_02_0200_sh3.fls :banghead:

The 80 lacks getKey. I don't have an 81 so I can't say about that one.

Press [F2]+[4]+[AC/ON]+RESTART at the same time
Release RESTART and continue pressing the remaining keys for a few seconds
Press [9] for a second
Press [X] (multiplication) for a second

This will display the message "OS ERROR" which activates the boot code's emergency OS updater.

Sorry I haven't been able to reply, been rather busy lately IRL. Basically, nothing worked, even the F2+4+AC -> Restart -> 9 -> x. I got another one, and I haven't tried to upgrade the OS, for fear of bricking it again. Thanks for the support, though.

The 81 lacks getkey as well, and it even lacks For() and has fewer RAM. However, it's much faster than the TI-80 and it doesn't break as fast.

Also sorry to hear you bricked the first calc Roondak. Hopefully there is a solution to your OS issue.
