Title: CALLING ALL... uh... cell phone app programmers?
Post by: skuller972 on May 25, 2009, 04:24:53 pm
During one of my famous random examinations of random objects of mine, I came to notice that my cell phone's headphone plug (which is smaller than normal headphones) and my TI-84 SE's I/O cable plug were THE SAME SIZE!!!!
I then came to have one of my famous LIGHTBULBMOMENTS!!!TM, and examined that one could program an app for the cell phone, that can access programs and files from the interweb, create programs with an IDE, or just transfer programs and files from the calc to the phone!! It could send data to where the headphones would be, but instead, the calculator recieves it and reads it and loads it to its memory!!!
But here's where I'm stuck: I don't know what language cellphone apps use, or how to program anything but BASIC or ASM.
If anyone helps, I love you  :-*
I would definitely pay 3 dollars for an app like this!!!

I think this would require that the cell phone should be able to detect the signals the calculator sends back through the cord, which would (unless I am confused) only work if it was somehow a microphone port as well.

Well, sending stuff from a cell phone still requires the signal from the calculator that the bit has been received. I suppose it may be possible to just assume a certain delay, but I doubt that would work well.

some cellphones have a mini-usb entry...

Changing an option in the cellphone that port works something like a card reader... *look for calc apps usb8x*

I also realized that is possible dev for Symbian. There is even Python for it. Might really worth a shot. (epic rpgs on cellphone is better than in calc games) Who is willing to play on a calculator in public except school??? But cellphone is a different story...

But if someone does that, how many would use it?

My gripe with cellphone programming is that cellphones evolves at a so rapid rate and I get worried old games will not work on new cellphones so programmers are kinda wasting their time if it's the case. I mean, only 4 years ago, cellphones were black and white, people were making gameboy style games for them, then suddently it all goes color and today some cellphones got as much memory as some harddrives

my phone is an LG Scoop, it has no USB entry, but that "headphone slot" was really bluetooth, so it CAN return information through it
