New HP 39gII connectivity kit (Nov 2013)

(1/3) > >>

DJ Omnimaga:
There is now a new connectivity kit update for the HP 39gII and possibly a firmware update for that calc, according to a post on HP Museum. I cannot link to it here because 1) The link will expire in 2 days and 2) we are not allowed to link to that member (nor his websites) in particular due to past issues. Just go to HP Museum forum at http://www.hpmuseum.org/cgi-sys/cgiwrap/hpmuseum/forum.cgi then search for HP 39gII material.

This is not an official release, since HP did not post it on their website yet, but I think I know why, because it doesn't install at all:

(Basically, the error says "Error at file writing level"

In addition to that, I wonder if this will overwrite our HP Prime Connectivity kit install directory?

Cough, cough, my French is very lousy, but shouldn't it be "Error at file 'reading' level"? :P
I guess HP is going through a bad phase now with the (too) early Prime release. They still have some very nice calc products, though. I hope they'll fix the Prime issues asap with a new firmware release 'very' soon.

DJ Omnimaga:
I think the main issue is both the rushed releases, which seems more and more common among companies to meet deadlines, but that definitively causes many problems: broken softwares, broken video games, broken products. Notice how some game companies go bankrupt after they rush a crappy game into the market.

Communication is also a serious issue with HP, as in the fact that even today, there is barely any info about the Prime on their website. Marketing suffers greatly.

Maybe they should hire KermMartian to do the marketing and properly releasing info out there. Maybe the calc would eventually outsell the Nspire. :P

I'm guessing going to the hp ftp site would be better... ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/calculators/39gII/  (this is the location the automatic check for update will check to try and grab updates)

The reason why it doesn't install most likely is related to the the overwriting problem you mentioned. I am guessing that on some systems having the new prime connkit (which was installed to the same directory) probably is causing issues. Just manually uninstall the old 39gII one first and it will then install fine I expect. This newer 39gII one will install to a different directory so there should be no conflicts.

Doubt it. Seems to me the problem is conflicts in the original msi backup files from the first install. It's a standard windows message/translation that comes with install shield so I am guessing it is correct with the sheer number of eyes that have looked at that message before.

As to what will be in that connkit - basically nothing different. The firmware for the calculator has some minor CAS fixes and sepcifically fixes around matrices. However, it is not much of a change nor will it radically improve the system.

DJ Omnimaga:
Will both kits eventually detect new firmware updates without requiring to also update the respective calcs' connectivity softwares?

EDIT Tim, I get 403 forbidden on the FTP URL. D:

Also both HP Prime and 39gII connectivity kit I have installed right now says there is no update available at this time.
