Other Calc-Related Projects and Ideas / Ludum Dare 26!
« on: April 27, 2013, 01:48:39 pm »
I'll be making a game for Ludum Dare 26. (google it, it's awesome.)
It will be a minimalistic game made out of straight basic, as unique as possible.
I have until sunday night!
You guys should join, too.

ROM Hacking and Console Homebrew / UFO Defender 1.0
« on: July 26, 2012, 02:42:08 am »
original post here

HUZZAH! I am not dead, and I probably will still be making games and such.

Anyways, here is a quick pick-up-and-play shmup that involves aliens, high quality custom graphics and music (in my opinion), and a veritable f***ton of explosions.

It is the year 30 billion, and Earth is being attacked by an insanely immense horde of violently flammable UFO's. Emergency force fields have been erected, but they are weakening by the second. Your job is to destroy as many UFO's as possible before the defenses cave in, and then post your high scores here.

And now for some screenshots:

And now for credit where credit is due:
Michael H. for giving me the idea for the game some years back
Detonation Films for the explosions
James for DSGM of course

All graphics and music are by me.

In the near future, I hope to make bugfixes, and then make a more challenging and in-depth sequel with an upgrade system and tower defense-like wave and auto turret game mechanics. But for now, and then, too, we have this quick and fun score racking explosion-fest.

Miscellaneous / Boot's big important survey for school

Take this survey and share it around. I need as many results as possible by evening tomorrow. It only takes about 2-5 minutes to take and it is very streamlined.

Miscellaneous / The Missile Heist (short story by boot2490)
« on: May 12, 2012, 12:31:37 am »
I wrote a short story for a contest, and it turned out really good IMO. It is only 5000 words long, but it is filled to the brim with action packed awesomeness, and it feels longer, or more condensed than the average story of its length.

"Trouble stirs in a secret military base when three mysterious mercenaries make off with a truckload of experimental conventional missiles. Officer McDowell is quick to pursue the thieves, but he soon learns that their missile heist is not all it may seem." - Description on

So, here's the link. Review if you have the time, but no pressure. It's well worth your while!

TI Z80 / Boot2490's Project Ideas List
« on: March 28, 2012, 08:21:45 pm »
Here it is, copied directly from my signature  :P

Versatile Mode Seven Engine:
On hold for a short amount of time, until I figure out rotation

Mario Kart:
On hold until mode seven is done

Simple fighting game:
Still planning

Golf Tour 2012:
Second priority; mostly planned

Axe Multiplayer Gamepack
~Pong - 50-70%, needs scorekeeping, random serves, and different angles of bounce on different parts of the paddle
~Super Pong (double breakout?) - planning
~Simpler fighting game - planning
~RPG battle? - thinking about it...
Give suggestions via topic.

Zelda engine...?
Thinking about it....
   3d w/ mode seven/raycasting or 2d?

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Thinking about it...
Engine (harder), hard coded, (easier), or in between? (write javascript program that hard codes it for you)

Comments? Questions? Input? Output(1,1,"?")

Could it be possible? If you can send variables, you can make the engine simple enough to only need a few in order to send and receive. Could AXE do this? Could it be fast enough to be greyscale? Could it run on an nSpire with an 84 keyboard? (All of the school calcs are nSpires, I want to see how far it could spread around the school XD)

Axe / Appvars, and referring to a certian point in one?
« on: March 03, 2012, 05:43:57 pm »
Currently, I am using OS lists, so they are extremely large. I would like to use an appvar instead, to save space. So basically, I want to store a list in an appvar, and through AXE, refer to a certian entry in that "list" to be used in calculations. Is this possible?

TI Z80 / Mario Kart (faux mode seven)
« on: March 02, 2012, 10:36:00 pm »
So, guys, I made a mode seven engine on my TI 83+ that I plan to later port to AXE and make into a Mario Kart game.

It reads from matrix A. Matrix A, being 5x4, contains coordinates for five lines, each row being X1,Y1, X2, Y2. The lines must be within 0 to 94 and 0 to 62.

Reading those lines, it first draws the lines on the screen normally, then after you press enter, it flattens them à la mode seven. The closer the "Perspective Factor" is to 62, the more intense the perspective transformation is. The closer to numbers upwards to about 4000, the more it is like top-down.

Here are some screenies, which show a few different perspective factors and how they transform the same image. Tested on a TI 83+ BE.

And here is the program, and the sample matrix used during testing.

TI Z80 / YES I'M BACK (With QuizGen)
« on: January 22, 2012, 01:27:20 pm »
I had to do a math project where I had to make a game with quiz questions.

I thought, "blah, that's gonna take too long."

So I whipped out my trusty old TI83+ and made a program that generates random math quiz questions.

Currently the only setting is various forms of quadratic functions, and I might be too busy to update it, but I hope someone finds it useful.

Here you go!

Edit: Minor update, pause at the end of run

EDIT: I am no longer working on this program because it is really messed up and hard to edit. Obviously, it is open source, so you can use it if you want, but be warned that it is incapable of giving correct answers.

Miscellaneous / Happy Thanksgiving from boot!!
« on: November 24, 2011, 06:03:47 pm »
Yes that's right, I am neither dead nor done with programming.
Thanksgiving is the ideal time to program, considering how my workload is blocking my focus.
At the very least, I am going to make the elusive and infamous shot calculator for Golf Tour. I try never to let people down, and seeing how much I hyped GT, it would be close to inconsiderate to quit programming it. I assure you that I am anything but done with programming. Bye for now, the pie is coming.
Happy Gluttonous Consumerism Day!

This is the original Tetris theme with a loud bass piano part and a 4 on the floor drum added. Sounds good.

Music Showcase / Tidal Wave EP Preview - Boot2490 (C-Zero)
« on: November 11, 2011, 03:12:02 pm »
Here is the 2011 preview of my very first album,
Tidal Wave EP
Enjoy!

Caution: It is advised against listening to Experiment 80 using headphones. Three listeners (Including me) have reported that the frequencies cause mild discomfort in the jaw when using headphones. Otherwise you're good.

P.S. Good speakers reccomended!!

Miscellaneous / My absence excuse
« on: November 10, 2011, 08:55:10 pm »
As you may have noticed, I have not been on Omnimaga for about two weeks...

To explain might take a while, I'll sum it up. There are three factors -

The time that I missed was finals week. So yeah.

2. Mental fatigue
The workload that comes with finals week strains my brain. I'm sure you know. Coding just makes me tired now. I'll get over it.

3. Intrest phases
I do everything in binges. Except for eating of course. I can go for long months without wanting to code, and suddenly do a long, hardcore coding binge, like this october. I can do an intense Zelda playing binge after not touching my wii for a year. I am kind of phasing out of coding temporarily.

So, I won't code for a while, but I'll try and stay in touch with Omni as I do other things. But I am very busy and might not get on so often. But I am definitely not permanently retired, more taking an extended vacation.

See you on the forums, probably more towards the music and discussion ones though.
