General Discussion / Re: Pirate. Metal.

Ah yes, so they are. I suppose the "epic" is more or less replaced with "pirate," for a similar (but superior due to its pirateyness) effect.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure both of those bands would be classified as "folk metal," so I'm not surprised that they would sound similar (albeitm minus the TOTALLY AWESOME pirate lyrics).

In the course of my many nerdy activities on the internet I've stumbled upon what may well be the most awesome thing ever. PIRATE. METAL. Yes, you read this correctly. PIRATE. METAL. Metal, with pirate-oriented lyrics (and decent musicianship). One band in particular, which blends pure piratey awesomeness with folk metal, is called Alestorm. There a couple others, but Alestorm is by far the best in my opinion. Check this out.

Heh, yeah... I've dumped java. Back to C++. Which also means no code and, of course, no screenies. I really haven't done much work anyway... no real motivation... I really would like to do this at some point though

Thanks. I also like part 3 (unfortunately it's incomplete). I think if I were to take some of the ideas in it and extend them further it could be much cooler.

Hmmm, that's strange... I just checked all the links and they work fine for me. I wonder what the problem could be...

I recommend the third one I think (though it's incomplete :P). I think the second one is also lacking in depth (it needs more parts...). Oh well, I'm not sure if I'll actually do any more work on this. Depends on if people like the current version I suppose.

I've always really liked coding, it goes along with how my brain works. Also, absolutely no progress has been made thus far.

Yeah, that's pretty impressive (or perhaps it could illustrate how little you had to do at the time), I have create 1/2 of a game kinda. It's what this project is based on.

lol, I'm not really a calc programmer... I got into calc games a while back almost started trying to learn asm then decided the calculator wasn't exactly suited for my brand of games. It's still interesting to watch some of these projects evolve (Like Lost Legends :( ).

I would still say that C++ is faster (primarily due to the low-level programmer capabilities) and it's compatibility with C is invaluable, but Java's easier and essentially as good anyways. And I don't really care about OS independent programming to begin with.

Yeah, I've been planning this for a while, I original intended to use C++ but I was unable to find a class for that language... I'm hoping that from this I may be able to branch the engine for more purposes than just platforming.

I do agree, if one hadn't been on the internet recently they might have bought it as a legit performance (or if they were high, as suggested by one comment).

A friend and I have begun (or are going to begin, Tooplark's  a little out of it sometimes) work on the modification of the source from my project from a java course I took over the summer. The objective is to create a flexible engine with which we might create a myriad of games (possibly not of the platforming genre). Once decent progress has been made I will post a link to the project itself. Until then I may decide to post miscellaneous information about it (artwork, screenies, and such-like).

Wow...

BTW, it  might be a good idea to fix the typo in the board name. Stuff like that has always grated on me, linguistics is one of my many hobbies that get neglected as I switch haphazardly between the possibilities.
