Miscellaneous / Re: Whoa, what did I miss?
« on: December 24, 2010, 07:52:15 am »
Well, I was talking to my family about it for several weeks back in October/November and in the beginning of December I stopped looking for jobs and went to the recruiter to fill out a lot of paperwork (there's still a whole bunch more of it though). I don't have the money to continue paying for school and I just can't seem to get a job anywhere near where I live (I've tried just about everything too...) and after a lot of discussion the Air Force turned out to be a great place for me to 'get a jump start'.

I've got 0.4.5 and I'm guessing the latest is 0.4.6, so I'll go pick that up.

Ah yes, the cage matches, those should be interesting to read about.

That's too bad about no other spriters. Do the guys who did them before still do them from time to time?

Miscellaneous / Whoa, what did I miss?
« on: December 24, 2010, 07:31:54 am »
Hey guys, it's been a while since I kinda just disappeared. Basically, I finished up my semester at college, spent lots of time in vain at getting a job, played a good amount of video games, and joined the Air Force. Currently I'm in the DEP (Delayed Enlistment Program) and waiting for a slot to open up so that I can be sent down to MEPS for processing and all that fun stuff. Since I now have some more freedom in spending my time (at least until I get sent to Boot Camp) I figured I'd catch up with what's going on here since I left. I'd like to get back into some programming and maybe some spriting as well while I'm still here. What I'm wondering is:
- Are there any new developments with Axe?
- Are there some awesome new programs/games that I got to try out?
- Did I miss anything regarding people's projects for which I sprited for?
- Any spriters show up while I was away?
- Where did all those smileys come from?

Feel free to put anything else that is worth mentioning that I forgot to include here.

Geez, I haven't sprited in a while. How does this look for water? This is 16x16, and I'll do an 8x8 shortly. Also, are you using the same character sprites as the ones on page 1 or have they been modified?

Gaming Discussion / Re: Super Smash Bros.

Huh, I haven't made a post in a while.

Many hours of mine have gone into Super Smash Bros. In SSB64 I would always use Blue Link. Always Blue. No exceptions. In Melee Roy was my boy, and in Brawl (Also Brawl+) I main with Ike, but have started to branch off to other characters such as Lucas and Jigglypuff (dat sunhat).

Oh, if anyone is interested, I might be able to make a mockup or two provided someone gives some details on possible sizes for character sprites and all that fun stuff.

Yeah, I pulled these from Super Mario All Stars, which is a compilation of the early Mario games with a graphical overhaul and slight changes to the physics. I still do prefer the originals to the remakes, they just don't feel the same.  :-\

SMB3 is still a favorite of mine and the cartridge still works, although the controller is really beaten up from being thrown around a lot. Some of those NES games just didn't want you to beat them (looking at you, Contra >:().

New Super Mario Bros....
Here, try this. :P
Yeah, I was just looking at that.
Right when I opened the page, 'Nope.'  :(

Yeah, SMB3 looks a little dark while SMW looks a little off as well. I could mess around a bit to get the right colors.
Here's also SMB1, in case you want to see that as well.

And yeah, NSMB used polygons.

Well, here are the grayscaled versions of some of the SMB3 and SMW Mario's.  Those games actually have a surprising amount of sprites for Mario. I left them intact for the most part, changing only minuscule things from the spritesheet.

If you want the entire spritesheet, I could post that as well. IIRC, These sprites only use 11-12 different colors so yeah.

Are you looking for a certain style of Mario (SMW, SMB3, SMB1, etc) or just whatever floats your boat?

Another B+ player? Cool. Who's your main? (as for me, Jiggs all the way.)
My main is Ike, and from time to time I'll play either Lucas, Jiggly(It's all about that sunhat), or Metaknight(I don't spam btw).

Out of curiosity, what you're are did for the red Start button?
As for the Start button, it's awesome and I'd appreciate a link when you get the time. Thanks!
It's part of the Zune color mod. Let me see if I remember where I got the stuff from.

Ok, here we go (Oh yeah, you might want to scan these to make sure I didn't mess up anywhere):
First, get the official Zune theme and install it.
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=75078
Then get the uxtheme patcher and run that.
For Service Pack 2 or below
http://www.llbbl.com/data/nw_uxpatcher.zip
For Service Pack 3 (haven't tried this)
http://download1us.softpedia.com/dl/971b6eeb2e60f108fc6f46dee3a21352/4cd0ecdb/100098929/software/os_enhance/UXTender.zip
Then finally get the Color Mod, run it and extract to 'C:/windows/resources/themes'
http://www.deviantart.com/download/50421916/Zune_Theme_Color_Mod_by_atomikscr.exe

Then just go to Display Properties and click the appearance tab. Change theme to Zune and color scheme to whatever you want.
I hope I didn't mess up. Tell me how it goes.  :)

Oh, I don't remember if the Zune theme changes the text for the title bars, but if it does you can set them back to Trebuchet MS font 10.

I think we may have a pirate on our hands...
Yarg! - Oh, I mean why might you think that?  ::)
By desk cleaning I meant organizing all the icons on my desktop. I usually have a bunch of files sitting around from having the default location for saving images from Fireworks and downloads from Firefox being the desktop. I also get a lot of clutter from getting things for Brawl Plus.

Oh yeah, I disabled Autoplay in the registry and have the 'no CD' patch for some of the games. For a couple others, eh, let's just say I borrowed it from a friend.  ;)
Is it me or are there A LOT of Josh/Joshua member around here?

Also Netham45 what do you mean? ??? Do you mean the PSP stuff and uTorrent? :P

On an off-topic note, I wish it was easier to connect with people on Halo CE. We could play some games sometimes with Eeems... :P
Really? What other Joshua's are there? Also, Yeah, I have CFW on my PSP and play homebrew/emulators on it.

Out of curiosity, what you're are did for the red Start button?
I have a modified uxtheme.dll to allow 3rd party themes and I'm running the Zune Theme with the color mod. If you want it I can probably find where I got it, although I've had it for quite a while. If not I can always just pull it from the themes folder and zip it.

Oh, I guess I haven't posted my desktop yet. Actually, I just finished some desktop cleaning, so it looks much more organized than it usually is.

thanks (or are you being sarcastic?) :P
No, I'm not being sarcastic (Or at least I don't think so). There's just something about that face that makes it cool. It made me think "While this guy is up on a tower, shooting things from every angle (literally), will he stare down the face of his enemy? No. Will he look at some nondescript object in the distance as he shoots that laser arm cannon thing? No. He'll mock them, insult them, not even batting an eye when foes are surrounding him from all sides of his tower and advancing with great vigor. He will destroy hundreds - no - thousands of foes without so much as a twitch on his face.

All will be done while those eyes pierce though the calculator (and the heavens) and stare into your soul, commanding you to keep fighting, even if only to fight the inevitable, while that smirk drives you on to do so for the sake of that number. The number that will represent all he has stood for and will be left as the mark upon his world for future generations to marvel and awe at the pure tenacity given by this man. His face will become one of folk lore and legend, rallying his descendants together to fight in hopes of bestowing their comrades in arms the honor to fight alongside the face of unwavering bravery.

What this man does today on that tower will echo for generations, emboldening the courage for others to fight as he has; with that face a guide to light the way for hot-headed youngsters to strive for true strength. The world will know this man, not as the man who destroyed an exorbitant amount of foes single-handedly, but as one who has done so with the unwavering face of one who has reached nirvana, and refuses to let the world prevent him otherwise; the very epitome of a man."  :]

That's why I think that face is pretty cool.
