Anime and Manga / Any Homestucks?
« on: February 18, 2013, 11:28:38 pm »
Ok, so this doesn't really count as an anime/manga (it's a web comic), but I figured this was the best place for it.

Does anyone here read Homestuck?

Homestuck is, as previously mentioned, a web comic by Andrew Hussie.
I figured many people here would enjoy it because it parodies text-adventure, video games, and just internet culture in general.

It's about a boy named John Egbert and his internet friends (Rose Lalonde, Dave Strider, and Jade Harley) who begin playing a new internet game called Sburb.
The game is capable of altering reality, as one "server player" can see the client player's room on their screen, and move objects around by clicking on them.
Eventually they activate a mechanism that causes Earth to be destroyed via meteors, while the kids are transported directly into the game's universe, called the Incipisphere.
Crazy things happen that can not be explained fully.
It's full of complex plot devices, time travel, aliens, alternate universes, action, suspense, romance, and, above all, humor.
THOUGH BE WARNED, THE FIRST SEGMENT IS PRETTY DULL. Just get through it, but don't skip it.
If you haven't heard of it, you should read it.

Should be coming around next week...

Any suggestions for what I should do with it when it arrives?

TI-Nspire / Calculator Emulator
« on: February 10, 2013, 10:10:53 pm »
How difficult would it be to write a calculator emulator for the TI-Nspire?

I.e, run ROMs of older calculators (Like the TI-83, 84, etc) on the TI-Nspire?
Is this even possible/does it already exist?
If so, that would be awesome.

Miscellaneous / Pronounciation
« on: February 10, 2013, 07:26:35 pm »
I was reading the thread about the origins of this forum, and with the word "omnimaga" inevitably appearing in just about every post, I was starting to wonder how it's pronounced.

In my mind, I say it ohm-nee-mah-gah.  Is that right?  Or is there some other pronunciation of it?

General Calculator Help / Taking Apart a TI-83 Plus?
« on: February 09, 2013, 12:06:28 am »
Any suggestions how to perform such a task?
What sort of screwdriver would I need to unscrew those screws along the edge of the back of the calculator (the ones that are in really deep holes)?
I think I read somewhere a Torx T4 screwdriver would do the trick?

The screen is messed up and won't work.  When you turn it on, it appears that there is a completely blank screen, but pressing a few random buttons shows random vertical lines and random pieces of characters along these lines.

This actually happened a long time ago, I believe it (may) have been dropped?
The calculator itself is also a few years old.

I had gotten an Nspire CX CAS but have found out it's disallowed from an exam I'm going to need to take at the end of the school year (due to its CAS capabilities).  I don't want to return it, and I don't want to purchase a new $100 graphing calculator for this one exam, so I thought maybe it might be possible to repair my old one.

Hello everyone, I have a TI-Nspire CX CAS.
I'm looking forward to programming on it.

Are there any suggested materials, sites, guides, etc. for beginners?
Thanks in advance!

Introduce Yourself! / Greetings, Humans!
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:17:45 pm »
How are you all?
I'm new here (hence this post in the first place).

I suppose I should introduce myself.  I love math, computers, and science.

Today I received my TI-Nspire CX CAS calculator, as my previous TI 83 broke.
I look forward to learning how to program it.

Currently I am learning C++, though I'm still pretty much a beginner with it.

What do you guys like to do?
