Axe / Re: question for searching
« on: May 02, 2013, 09:27:30 am »

(On a side note, Runer112 is the one in charge of Axe Parser development and given his history of crazy optimizations to any ASM sources he finds, he knows very well what he's talking about.)
i agree to you
but isn´t there another possibility than to laern a new big languege(maby a hex code...)

Hex codes are just preassembled assembly instructions. So no, that's not going to change anything. By the way, writing hooks is a fairly complicated process involving lots and lots of options. Including that in a language like axe would be impractical and (probably) cause a significant increase in compiler size. Might as well just write asm.

On an off-topic note: No offence, but would you mind paying a little more attention to grammar and spelling? You don't have to write perfect Oxford English, but even a small effort will make your posts more pleasant to read, people will be more inclined to help you. :) Note: I'm no native speaker myself (English is my third language), so that's no excuse.

Because stats sucks. period.

Speaking as a math student: yes, it's boring. Many people would agree with you. It's also the branch of mathematics that is the most useful to the general public. However, you could try to make it interesting: read up on probability spaces and elementary measure theory. Then try to build your knowledge from the ground up. It'll be confusing at first, but I assure you that you'll find stats just a little more bearable afterwards :)

Yes, I agree with flyingfisch.
I can understand that it may not be easy, and I think you know very well that your parents only have good intentions for you. When I think about it, if I would get kids later on in life, I'd probably also put a blocker on the computer.  And trust me, it's not easy to find a good proof blocker, which is probably the reason that you have several.

I think that probably the main thing your dad is trying to avoid is inappropriate material. And to get that really good blocked it probably requires him to block all those other stuff.

Maybe you could talk with you dad and ask him to unblock specific sites, to make it easier for you(rather that blocking specific sites)?

It's better to have a useless computer than go to H E double hockey sticks with a useful one, eh? :P

Yeah, but there's a difference between a reasonable content filter like my parents used to have at home (filtering illegal material and ye ole digital humpin') and senseless word filtering. Come on... Blocking pages by scanning the _text_ on them? I don't see how that could ever be productive.

That said, making stuff like this illegal doesn't seem like a very good idea IMO: 1) such a law is impossible to enforce 2) parents have the right to pass on their own ideology while shielding their children from certain influences. I'm not too fond of this idea either, but the topic is highly controversial and outright removing those rights would not go down well. Besides, this matter is far from black and white; my opinion isn't that clear-cut either.

More progress to report!

I've implemented a random map generator. (Algorithm used: http://kuoi.com/~kamikaze/GameDesign/art07_rogue_dungeon.php)

I turned off items for the demonstration because random item placement hasn't been implemented yet, which caused items to get stuck in walls. I already have a routine that populates the level with monsters, so writing an item placement routine shouldn't be that hard.

I also made the death screen less shitty and replaced the wall tiles. Let me know what you think.

EDIT@DJ: I'll see what I can do about grayscale. Never worked with it thus far, but AFAIK my tilemapper should support it with a few edits. It'll also be a good excuse to rewrite my key input loop, which is a giant piece of crud at the moment.

EDIT2: More progress:
  • Implemented random item placement
  • Fixed a stupid bug in the AI which turned out to be caused by a bug in my routine that squares HL.  :-[ It returned bogus values when asked to square 0.

Ladies and gentleman, you might ask "Why is this dude posting in a thread that's been dead for 1.5 years?".

Because PROGRESS!

I've started to slowly revive this little pet project of mine. I'll be coding away throughout May, but June will be calmer due to exams. Just don't expect me to perform any miraculous feats; my skills have rusted a lot so I'm spending loads of time debugging.

So anyway, monster movement AI now mostly works (save a couple quirks).
Current working features:
- Moving around the map/collision detection
- Monsters move and attack the player (the @ on the map)
- Can pick up items
- see inventory and equipment
- look around without moving/losing a turn
- Can battle/kill monsters/get killed by monsters

EDIT: keep in mind, most graphics/menus are still in the "placeholder" phase. Rest assured that the game will look better when finished. Graphics aren't my top priority now.

In case anyone cares, since I'm not really a calculator programmer anymore (at least not for the next few months), my name is Matthias Valvekens.

I actually can't afford to waste too much time but I'll try and check this out :D
See what I can come up with, and maybe it's time to update my PTT patch again, sometime. But not now.

Other Calculators / Re: Patching a calculator???????????

A while ago, I made a patch to (completely) disable the Push-to-test in OS 2.43 and 2.53MP. It's complementary with the brandonw patch.

Technical banter: Brandon's patch renders _SetAppRestrictions useless, along with some Testgrd2 related stuff, if I recall correctly. My patch messes with the PTT code itself, to disable the hook kill and the group/pic reset. (bcall _PTTReset iirc).

Hi. My name is Adam Counts. First time Omnimaga user. Just signed up. Some of you know me from Cemetech. (very few of you). I program TI-BASIC games, learning AXE, and would like to learn about any other programming languages. Any questions? Feel free to ask them.

I do think I saw you on cemetech once. Welcome!

At school I regularly outperformed teachers in tech or (to a lesser extent) math areas. (weird eh, considering the math grades I get? :P ) Well, I'm my own teacher now. So meh.

At some points it sounded a bit like Skynet would take over, but it wouldn't.

There is an ISP in Belgium called Skynet. The first time I read about the Skynet conspiracy theory, I lol'd because of that.

My signature is my signature. It has userbars and internets. Nice eh. I'm not usually very original about these things.

EDIT: wait, it doesn't even have userbars here. Wow I suck.

It's a way to learn the principles of programming. As a matter of a fact, it's how I started when I was eight or so. (I didn't do any REAL programming till a few years after that, but technically it was my starting point :) )

I got grades like that four years ago. Time long gone :P

What grade are you in, souvik? I don't know what your age translates to in the US system.
