I usually perfer 8x8 for tilemaps. They're easier to draw and fit more in one pic data. I only use 16x16 for special occatoin like battle.

I don't know... It has a separate program for just walking... Map control at some program, and put walking program in there... I think the collision detector slows the walking down a bit..
