Title: Name
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on May 06, 2010, 07:26:43 pm
I wonder what could be the final name for the final version of this game?

Many people at Omnimaga knows Project M as Mario, but when project M arrives in ticalc archive, people might miss out because Mario won't be in the title and people search for popular game names first (unfortunately for many other games).

Since the game incorporates some SMW elements but is still not a SMW port, my idea would be Super Mario World 0 or Super Mario World Z80

This raises an interesting point.  I vote for the program to be called "Project M" on calc, but on Ticalc, I think it could be "Super Mario World Z80: Project M".   On a side note, could some confuse "Project M" with Metroid?

project mario instead of project m? it would be less confusable.

My issue is that if we keep the word "Project" in the name, we should try to make sure it won't sound like a work in progress. Most people who see "Project Mario" will say "oh, another unfinished demo? forget it", and not everyone at ticalc visits Omnimaga or even know it exists at all. It's best to make sure the title won't sound like 1: a project demo, 2: another crappy mario clone.

How about "Project M - Not Another Unfinished Demo" :P Jk.

Seriously though I would probably say something like Super Mario: Calc Edition would be cool. I'm not sure though.

how about "Super TI Mario World" ?

Another issue is making it not sound too much like one of those custom levels for Mario 1.2, heh

Mario meets World. (I lol'ed a bit.)

Yeah true calc84maniac.

I wonder if New Super Mario Bros 8x would work?

I like that one (or maybe just Super Mario Bros 8x, without the "New"). I don't think that sounds like a level.
Or, in the spirit of the version for the 68k calcs, Super Mario z80 (or 8x, I guess)

Maybe call some friends in high places and have it featured?  Problem solved.

Well if it made ticalc front page, it would sure be seen as a full Mario game, now, so that could be a solution, since it would have a green icon. Super Mario z80 seems good, except I think people will confuse it with Sam Heald's Mario, as some people already do with an older Mario game on ticalc.org

The "New" being part of the name could work too since it would be in reference to the Nindendo DS/Wii game of the same name and no calc levels are called that way I think

I can't see this not getting a feature when it's completed anyway as it is such a beast already. :D

true personally I am certain this will get featured even if there's already another Mario classic on ticalc. It usually takes quite a while before features come up on ticalc, now, though (generally a week or two, 3 sometimes)

That's actually what I thought when I first saw the name "Project M".

It seems better to have the word "World" somewhere in the name, since then it be less likely for someone to get it mixed up with Super Mario v1.2 or v2.0.

how about "Mario World TI"

or something on the lines of mario and bowser some how got them selves sucked in to a calculator...

i donno... it just seems like an interesting story lol

since Nintendo could think of something like Mario and Luigi been sucked in to Bowser and stuff

Mini Mario Land?

I don't think people will think it is an incomplete version since it will probably be featured.  You could call it "THE (Mario) GAME"  :P

/me runs

EDIT: >:D/2

What's the story behind the game? That could help decide one too.

Mario Land:  Calc84maniacized
For some reasons I lol'ed at that one ;D

What about Super Mario World 3? I don't think there's officially a SMW3, unless Yoshi's Story for the N64 is it.

Yeah Nspire wouldn't work too well here. That's unless calc84maniac ever made a Nspire Mario game :P

Not this game. The only way to play Mario on the Nspire currently is to download gbc4nspire and run a Super Mario Land or the SMB Deluxe ROMs.

That's unless you mean my video of the 83+ emulator for the TI-Nspire, but that version of Project M was nowhere close to its current state. It did not even support water and touching an enemy caused the camera to focus on that sprite.
