Title: Escape (PlayStation MOBILE)
Post by: XiiDraco on February 06, 2014, 06:15:33 pm
I just finished another game on Psm, this one I'm actually gonna sell because it's one of those games you can easily get addicted to.

Escape:

So, what do you think?

Looks cool, but does "fire" do anything at the moment?

OH, did I not show that?  :banghead:

It fires missiles that can help clear enemies out of the way when it gets really hard.

Seems nice, you should maybe add some copter noise or something, so you feel more into the game.

I added a new particle system to the game with new fire particles for explosions. (looks really good)

-got rid of "hovering" while firing missiles
-slight performance increase
-exterminated bugs

I also figured out why my old particle systems were so laggy! The problem was NOT the number of particles rendered to the screen at one time! (in fact that is really easy on the gpu), it's the fact that I was CREATING new sprites every time I needed one. Doing so takes about 50 milliseconds. When making one it's unnoticeable, but like 600. almost 30 seconds of lag time. YEAH OOPS

Instead of creating new sprites when I need them, I can create them at launch time, then RECYCLE them as I need new ones. (dead ones go to unused list, then when I need one, it grabs one from there)

I also need to put the games calculations and rendering into 2 separate threads, the calculation thread being timed. This would boost FPS by like 200. >_<

So I finished the game! It won't be in until like next Tuesday though.

If you are viewing this with a PlayStation Certified device, this is the link for the game in the store:

Here's the latest version:

No, I'm not advertising for my game on Omnimaga, I'm keeping people up to date with all the cool things I've found/obtained/done.

I think it's fine if it's advertised here (providing the game isn't $59.99 :P) since you contribute to Omni on a regular basis. Also I might give it a try if I can afford it and stuff :D.

Yeah, that isn't advertisement to me, it is merely showing off your programming work which everybody does here ;)

Yeah DJ, lol its not $59.99, its a buck. Literally, it's like $0.99. The reason of course for doing this, was marketing. It's something called impulse buy. It's worth so little, lots of people will buys it just to try it out.

And the content in it is way to simple to be anything more than a buck. XD

I will definitely update and add new content later though.

Nice, I might give it a try eventually then. :D

But yeah, also, when stuff is like $1-5, it can attract younger players with less money too or if they have none, their parents might not mind spending so few for a game, resulting in more sales. The only issue is people who have no credit card and can't find gift cards anywhere, but that's inevitable with any kind of online purchase anyway :P

This is partly why I made my music $4 (although the price is now tied to Omnimaga's posting activity, so next month it will most likely reach $5 unless Omni has over 2499 posts) instead of $7-15 like some other Bandcamp artists. I even saw an artist selling his stuff $20. (Although that might not be a problem if an artist is extremely popular, though)

Good to hear. By the way is it possible to view a page about it online or if authors of each game have to create their own somewhere? I know it's most likely visible in the app store whens searching but I was just wondering. I might give this a try at one point :)

EDIT: It appears to not be available on the PS Store yet (at least PS Vita)

All the pages required for the game/authors is dependent on the Devs themselves. Yes I made my own.

And that's weird that it doesn't show up for you because myself and multiple people from around the world have already purchased it... 10 copies total.

It must not have been released in your area yet.

Maybe indie games are only released in a single country and not worldwide?

On the PSM website that I found, it appears that the latest indie game there dates back on 02.11.14.
