Title: 500 guests online every evening

Anyone knows why we get 500 guests online every evening since the past few days? Seems like webcrawlers but I wonder what kind of bot it could be to have that many online, or if anything on the site might be drawing traffic from legit members for any reason? ???

I have been posting links for my IRL friends to check out , but I am pretty sure that would only bring in a few guests every so often, so it wouldn't account for 500 every day XD

That's unless of course someone is using a proxy or weird filter and his IP address changes every page click. But then if a legit user was checking every member profile that would be creepy :P

I know that in France it's exams time and french sites will soon have 1000-2000 users online on a regular basis, but our spikes in users occurs during evening, when French people are asleep, plus we don't have many math/school notes programs, so it can't be that.

TI-Planet is getting quite a lot of visits these times because of the exams soon, maybe here too ?

Nah I doubt it, otherwise it wouldn't only last 1-2 hours a day/night (depending of where you live). For the rest of the day we get around 70-170 users including logged in ones.

They deployed a Special Ops team to stop ndless :P Then there is also that other species of course... On topic: What could it be ??? That many bots/crawlers seems a bit improbable to me.

Seems like it's some sort of botnet or something. When they're on and you look at action=who (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=who), it's clumps of ~30 guests in a row doing the exact same thing (viewing a certain topic, looking at a certain profile, etc) within a minute or two of each other. When I saw it it went on for about 5 pages.

It's also noticable how there are like 10-20 people "Registering for an acount" for the whole day. At the end of the day theres only like 2-3 actaully new acounts...

Most of those are probably bots getting hung up at the registration page.
