Title: A quick suggestion
Post by: qazz42 on November 13, 2010, 01:53:41 pm
Do you think we can bring back the "New replies to your post" button? The "Recent Activity" button is annoying to use and I end up losing place of any topics I posted in, which has lead to the lack of interest to even bother posting in Omni these days....

I like that idea :)

^ Agreed. It was really useful while it was here.

I think I asked about it once, and DJ mentioned it was broken or something, though...

Yeah, I could crank out 10 posts a day back then, but now I only get 1-2 if I even bother

When we press forums, we can always get the last 15 posted in, but those include the ones we've already posted.

I'd like the following buttons:

'Non-read messages' (messages that haven't been even read)
'Threads with new messages' (threads you've gone to and have been posted back)

Ah I see why you have been less active lately.

I think I'll make that button inside the topic list, though, because I do not want people to think it's the default latest activity feed. It gets cleared at the end of our session so it isn't as reliable. I'll see what I can do later.

It would be Latest 200 active topics | Latest individual posts | Replies to your posts

However it's not very reliable. If you accidentally close your browser or logout, the list ends up being empty, like the new posts lists on Cemetech.

This is what I'd like, it is in forums I usually go to.

The Recent Activity Page shows posts you were the last one posting too, I guess.

yes, but it is alot better than having to scan 3-4 pages of topics, not knowing what is what

I will not bother about http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=unread because the latest activity page does that, and at least the latest activity page is not wiped out every session. HOWEVER, I'll bring back http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=unreadreplies . That might actually be handy now that there are many topics.

DJ Omnimaga said that list has a bug: when you shut some browsers, the list is wiped out.

So maybe, try to fix it?

Sadly it is not possible. Forum softwares had that problem for a decade. It's a session-based thing. And I don't know PHP so I cannot change the board software.

EDIT: The unread replies list is back! Check the Latest Activity page: You'll notice that a 3rd link was added there at the top, called Replies to your posts. I wonder why I bother anymore about the latest individual posts, though, since it's capped at 100 and we get that in a few hours sometimes, but I guess I'll leave it there for now.

And on a related note, could the front page have a link to the unread replies page, like in the little control box on the left as before? Just a small suggestion.

those show up by default on the mobile themes.

I might edit the block to add it there again.

Ah I see. I wonder if I could actually modify those...

On the front page portal, at the bottom of the left column you can find 3 links to the mobile version of the site (and the radio).

Great, now I can go to my HTC Magic and post! Nice feature, had no idea it existed.

I have a phone, with Internet, but I use the regular page, since I can't access mobile version yet :(

Strange, I guess it must not be compatible with all phones yet. The mobile version is very limited, though, anyway. On one of them there are no Logout link. ???

It is not that it is uncompatible. It's just that I don't know how to go to it. I now know, in the sidebar homepage, but I like the normal version on phone too, I can even use the IRC!

Oh I see now.

One day, I need to create an alt version of the current forum theme, but one that is easily resizable.
