Title: An Idea to Solve Current Issues
Post by: yunhua98 on March 16, 2011, 11:03:32 am
We need some unity.  We should try to have closer ties between Omnimaga and Cemetech.  While heartless trolls we can ignore, it's really people you know and like bashing you that ends up doing more damage.  And less inter-community fighting isn't the only benefit, if every major TI site worked together, there would be more communication and end products.  What's the point of the two biggest TI sites feeling competitive every time something happens?  I'm not pointing fingers at anybody; in fact, most people don't feel as if they must out do the other side, but I still believe that Omnimaga and Cemetech should work together on more things, or maybe have a joint contest/IRC channel/etc.  This would promote less inter-commmunity fighting, and may resolve current issues and prevent them from happening again.  ;)

I hope I didn't insult anyone by this, but does anyone else agree?

Unfortunately this would remove freedom to #cemetech users for some stuff they enjoy doing and remove freedom to #omnimaga users for some other stuff they enjoy doing. The issue is that both channels and site got different rules and group of users/age of users/mentality, so it's impossible for each of them to be the same. I'M afraid there would be clashes at one point and people leaving. The only thing that can be done about the Cemetech/Omni thing is that the people who are not trolls simply don't join the Omnimaga bashing, for example. Eg, last night, Souvik and Player were approving of everything Nikky was saying against Omnimaga, regardless of if it's true or not with their "Nikky++" stuff. Those people who joined the bashing need to understand that both sites are different and have their good and bad sides, and that if something is allowed on one channel, it doesn't mean it is on the other, and they can do nothing about it.

Currently only two recent issues happened involving stuff like that, the problem has been mainly with some Omni users. The problem on Omni side was kinda solved, it seems, but there was still stress and Souvik was too heartless to understand and wait a day or two before posting his comment.

I didn't mean removing the current channels, I just thought maybe have another channel.  Although that may be too many channels.
The two sites don't have to merge, I was just thinking from time to time, they should do something to together.  And if its a contest, promote that if anyone wins, its not a victory for the site, but for the community as a whole in an effort to bring it closer together.

What's wrong with Omnimaga? What was Nikky saying against it?

If you look around the old portions of this forum, you'll notice a user named allynfolksjr  Thats Nikky, he's pretty much a troll who doesn't like Omni.

The reason being that we are too strict on rude/unconstructive remarks. Of course he's a troll and bashes Cemetech/UTI too (he even bashed POTY once, even though he's ticalc.org staff), and this is why I did not take him seriously last night. However, it hurts when there are people you like and that seems to like you that suddently starts saying shit about you or your site you spent ages working on.

Yes of course.

I have a question: Might a shout topic be possible to replace OmnomIRC temporary?

I'M not sure. I think for now, the best thing to do would be to only make #omnimaga available to established users (the ones that already went there and never caused trouble) and restrict it to that for now, then eventually re-allow everyone else back along with OmnomIRC, but then if everything falls apart again, I'm not sure.

I prefer to not be the one who take decisions on that matter, because everytime I take a decision it is shot down and I am called out like if nothing I did was right.

There was an attempt at a joint channel, and it is still there, but not very active, although many people idle in it. #TI
There have been a few attempts of discussions between the communities by the leadership, but due to scheduling they haven't worked too well yet. But there definatly has been a little progress.
I'm not sure what will happen with OmnomIRC yet, but I will make a decision soon when I get to talk to the other admins.

Wow, my slight activity slump just has to coincide with something like this. Well written message yunhua, I hope everything gets sorted out, and I hope that Omnom will be back up soon.

Also, I guess My time is just messed up, but everything seems to happen when I'm offline.  D:

I never really saw Cemetech and Omni as competitors. From what I've seen, cemetech has far more people doing hardware mods, and omni is more about software (especially axe :P) If I were doing a hw mod, I'd prob. post it there, if not both, soft, more likely here, since there are more people interested in that particular area on the given sites.

Cemetech is, indeed, different of Omnimaga. We're different communities, but with the same goal.

Nicky trolls everything.  I think it is all in good humor.

Just how I have always felt.  They are also big with Doors over there.  I could never give up Mirage :/ ,but it is nice.

Doors is great, only reason I never gave up on Mirage was because it was too hard once you have 300+ programs.  :P

but on my "Development Calc", I use Doors.  ;)

This is why I use Doors too.  It's HomeRun feature is the best since CalcUtil, plus it does CeltiC III. :D

As for join Cemetech/Omnimaga, I think a contest would be possible.  Other than that, I have doubts. ;)

I just use it as if it were noshell :P gotta love the homerun, esp. since you can edit archived axe sources, without fearing crashes :)
