Title: Apology
Post by: Spyro543 on June 20, 2011, 09:58:05 pm
I'm just writing this to say "I'm sorry" to everyone on Omnimaga, especially those on IRC yesterday when I was on. I apologize for being a jerk and bashing NLua in a way that is considered trolling. I apologize to anyone whose feelings I may have hurt. I really blew it x.x

I can't speak for Pacific Theatre Command, but I can say I personally think an apology ends it well.  However, myself included, most of the chan was steamed up with languages today, so it wasn't just you in particular.

Yeah I wonder what happened this afternoon? ??? Actually you two and someone else got warnings, but even some other people (although they did not bash any language) were in for debatting programming languages. ???

Anyway apology accepted. I guess this afternoon everyone felt more loose on that programming subject. I prefer that people be careful when talking negatively about a language in Omnimaga, because in the past on other sites I did see people leave the entire community (or programming) after someone bashed the language they used. There are ways for somebody to tell he doesn't like a language in particular without making it sound like it's worthless (along with programs made with it) and insisting about it is generally unnecessary.

Wow, nice you did that!!

@DJ_O, bashing languages is wrong, but debatting too?

Debatting is fine, as long as people keep it clean, ie not just mindless bashing for invalid reasons (such as "Lua sucks because one command is written like that", even though it's just one single flaw) or trying to act like if your opinion was a fact). In most cases, however, it's best to avoid debates, if possible, especially starting them, because such thing can get out of hand (although not as much as politics and religion). I just feel that there are times where they can be unnecessary. An example is when my TI-83+SE RPGs got featured on ticalc.org: Almost every new turned into a BASIC vs ASM flame war.

Its a bit my fault, as I started it the discussion. I didn't want to start a flame war though. I'll be more careful next time :)

I was also present during this event and I also bashed Lua due to indexes starting at 1. I also have to apologize to everybody who likes Lua or even people who felt uncomfortable with me bashing Lua.

Sorry everybody, I also will make sure this doesn't happen again, neither with me nor with anybody I see doing this on IRC/Forums.

Am I allowed on the IRC channel anymore? It looks like DJ tried to ban me... So I'm just wondering.

Well I sent you a warning via PM, but even if the ban worked it would have ended last night anyway. Basically you're allowed in again.
