Title: Can't post topics
Post by: Juju on June 24, 2012, 03:39:14 am
I had a hard time posting my latest news, it said your session timed out or something, both on my computer and my cellphone. I desactivated IPv6 and it worked. Mind looking at this?

Replying still worked though, IPv6 or not.

Have you been using IPv6 to post topics for a while? Maybe something wrong with CloudFlare or SMF just doesn't support IPv6 for new topics?

Also would clearing your cache and cookies work?

EDIT: Maybe someone could port this to SMF 1.1.x http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=3051 . SMF 2.x plans to add IPv6 support, but not 1.1.x

Just wondering, is there a reason we're not upgrading the forum to 2.x? (Or are SMF forums not designed to easily upgrade major versions?)

Almost every mod installed on the forums, along with every theme, are not compatible with 2.x. Upgrading to 2.x would involve almost restarting everything from scratch I think, especially the themes, in which weeks of work were put. Replacing the mods with others is out of the question, as they have no way to import data from other mods for the most part.

That's of course unless someone was commited to do all the recoding from scratch in a short amount of time (2 weeks or so). I don't think Omni should go the United-TI route of upgrading then leaving the site a year or two with most features disabled or even the default theme on.

Also I used SMF 2.x for a year on TIMGUL and it was incredibly annoying to maintain, because of the horrible (IMO), misleading Admin panel navigation. I think Omni should stick to 1.1.x for as long as SMF maintains it. They stopped maintaining 1.0.x only 6 years after 1.1.x launch. Should 1.1.x end of life arrive in a few years, Omni could just look into third-party 1.1 upgrades or a good PHP coder to fix potential security holes.

Well, we *could* create a double version of omnimaga somewhere hidden and then upgrade that one and apply all mods (leaving you as much time as you want) and then copying it to the public version :)

The problem is that syncing the databases would be a major PITA then, unless the staff managed to write a script that automatically posts topics, news, EzPortal updates, articles, new forums categories, etc, to the 2.0 board.

If both is stored into mySQL then it wouldn't be too complicated.
