Title: Downloads Section
Post by: Munchor on December 05, 2010, 10:41:55 am
Probably you already know about this, but let's have a look at Racer3D:Replay Download page:

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=599 (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=599)

Now, let's have a look at the keywords:

Code: [Select]
Keywords: racer, racing, racer3d, replay, racer 3d replay, scoutdavid, scout, david, quigibo, kevin, horowitz
Now try pressing any keyword, instead of searching that specific keyword, it will search all of them, returning, obviously only my game.

I think it would be nice if this was fixed, so I could search for other 'racer's or 'scoutdavid' games

What do you mean? I tried pressing "racer", and it took me to http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=search2;key=racer, as expected...

yours is probably the only one with those keywords, there's only like 20 user contributed programs so far...

You're right!!!

But this happened with another program, I'm sure, gotta recall which one

SPRITELIB! Since there are no spaces between commas. Yet this is a problem

It seems fine to me. It's how it should work. if you search for racer, it returns both your racer game and Builderboy's java game. If I click your keywords, it doesn't show his because he used no keywords.

As for Spritelib, he should put spaces between keywords as now it thinks it's just one.

It was one in a hundrd. I'm sorry for my mistake, though.

No problem. I also need to finalize the new download category so I can finally announce it to public so we get more files.

Yes, I had never used the Downloads before, only for Racer3D. We could have a larger database, indeed! However, ticalc sometimes does the job.

Yeah the Omni users downloads section is more so Omni users can put their files there as well. In the end, it shows what the Omnimaga community have done. That section requires 100 posts to upload files and only allows games and utilities, to keep it as Omnimaga as possible.

We can also upload music actually.

No, non-staff can't. The music section is reserved for staff member. Any stuff uploaded by regular members outside the Users contributed 83/89/Nspire sections will be deleted. This is to save diskspace in long terms.

Really? So if I do release an Album I won't be able to upload it to OmniDownloads? How bad :(

Sorry. It's because if we allow member music as well the diskspace will get filled up pretty fast. Maybe in the future if I find a solution. I could maybe install a music uploader on my old webspace and do like what AP did with img.removedfromgame.com.

Yes, that would be cool. But what if Admins can upload things for us there?

I don't think it would be a good idea. Admins already have enough work like that. X.x

I'll have to figure out a way to allow music without eating all my diskspace. We have 12 GB left, but with every forum attachment and files that get added everyday, if we add MP3s as well it would get filled pretty fast.

That said we could simply put advertisements and a donate button on the website and get more diskspace. :P

I realized that when attachments are deleted and removed from posts, they aren't removed from the disk space O.O might this be a good way to free up some memory one way or another?

Yeah I noticed that with SMF. This is annoying because then we don't know which attachment files are still used and which aren't. On TIMGUL this became a huge mess when people deleted their songs. I wish there was a SMF attachment directory scanner to detect which file is still used or not... it would also free up file names.
