Title: Hide the "Spam" section from the New Posts list
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on October 11, 2011, 11:15:41 pm
I wonder if it would be possible to hide the spam (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=20.0) section from the new posts (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=5) list? Because in the past two days I have noticed a lot of focus was put on that section at the expense of programming/discussion sections, and as a result, this causes the new posts list to be really cluttered.

In the past two days we had over 500 posts per day, but I think about 200-250 of each were from the spam section. This would definitively make it easier to find more constructive threads such as Axe Parser help and project updates there. On the old board about 50% of the daily activity was in the spam section and when we had 150-200 posts in a day, it made it incredibly hard to find active calc threads.

Granted, for people under 100 posts this is not an issue because they cannot see it, but for the majority of the active members it could get annoying and discourage the usage of the new posts section. :/

Wait, so only members with 1K posts can access spam now?

Yeah it seems like that now. What about 500? It might be best maybe. Plus 1K wouldn't solve the issue anyway since the threads are still cluttering the new posts section :P

I think I can get to 1K in about a month if I try.  :P

Actually I really like this idea, and agree with your points. I think hiding the spam posts from "new posts" would be ideal. They don't really add anything to the discussion, and detract from on topic discussion. As you also mentioned, it does make the "new posts" section rather cluttered and a bit more tedious to navigate.

+1 on that ;)
I totally agree, mainly because I get distracted and start posting too much in spam :P
I have about 2/3 of my posts in spam x.x

(Note that any change to the spam section involving hiding it or restricting it more is temporary, though, and it will most likely just last until Omnimaga reaches 215130 posts or whatever is the spam+humor*10 equivalent.

On the old board usually the section was closed completely every Summer)

There seems to be another spam topic posts invasion lately :P (although not as much as last time and a bunch are in humor/jokes)
