Title: Idea: [key ] bbcode
Post by: Darl181 on November 23, 2011, 01:35:33 pm
I've noticed, and ran into myself, some random problems when trying to type out calc keys on the forums.  Normally brackets would work, like [ON], but a few of them mess up, such as +,* and some others.
I was looking at the wiki tag and it looks like it might be possible to draw a solid rectangle around the words, [axe]like the wiki tags do the dotted lines.[/axe]

What I'm thinking is of a [key ]tag[/key ], or maybe [k] for short, that would draw a rectangle around the words inside of it so the problems don't happen anymore.
Would this be feasible?

That sound pretty ok. :) Would be handy I guess.(or they just could make 'smilies' for each key) :P

That might work, if the images from the getkey table (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=21) were used or something.
Tho it might get weird if someone wants to use a key, say, on the 89 that the 83p doesn't have :P

Okay.  I made it so "[key]" will turn into "[nobbc]," which will fix the problem for you.  Great idea!

THe key images sounds like a good idea too, but if they are used I think they should be relocated on Omni server (after asking Critor's permission), because the host they're currently on is incredibly slow, if you notice how long they take to load on the getkey page.

Hm, it looks like it changes the text but doesn't..
Cool, it doesn't look like that in the preview window but yay it works :D

Edit: lol it even changed the topic title

Those images are owned by TI. I hope we do not get trouble as in here (http://tinyurl.com/cpxojwg) and here (http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh) with it...
j/k I was about to post the image idea too.

Notmally [*], [+] and some others (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref) start doing random bullet points
and this gets rid of it ;D
[key]

[necro]
I stumbled across this (http://clrhome.org/tutorials/axe/) earlier.
Looking at the css for the keys, they seem somewhat similar to the wiki tags, there's just a few differences.

After messing with firebug, I was able to change
[axe]TEST[/axe]
to
(http://darl181.webuda.com/other/buttonTest.png)
by doing
Spoiler For code:
border: 1px solid #000000;
border-radius: 4px 4px 4px 4px;
in element:style and taking out the link.

Would something like this be simple and/or possible to put in as the key bbcode? ;D

That actually looks pretty nice. I wonder if it's supported in all major browsers though?

It's supported in my browser (opera)

UCF has it so if you do something like [+ ] or [)] it automagically changes to an image of the key. I think that is better than [key ][ /key]

According to mdn border-radius (https://developer.mozilla.org/en/CSS/border-radius#Browser_compatibility) seems to work across the board.
If it wouldn't work it would just be a hard-cornered rectangle outline anyway :P

TI-Planet does that as well, critor designed key images and added them as smileys. That would be interesting.

@Darl181: Ah, ok. That's pretty nice indeed then. =)

On an unrelated note, I still use [+] to make the bullets in all of my posts. I found it by accident one day and it has been super useful ever since.

Come to think of it, I think Quigibo uses them in the Axe updates.
Edit: actually he uses li /li, which looks like it does the same thing.

Maybe it can made so those things only work as list things after list tags?

What I can see wrong with this, tho, is that all the keys would need an image, for every calc that's used around here x.x
With casio calcs they're mostly the same (Casio even provides a font with them) but not so much for Ti.
That's why I was thinking of just having the defined text in there, with a border drawn around it or something.

ti has a font with their key images and other symbols as well.
no matter how you look at it, though, this is a difficult thing to handle, just because there are so many, and i don't think it's really worth all the effort, since people have found ways to portray most things anyways already.
