Title: Issues with new avatar
Post by: holmes221b on January 07, 2011, 02:32:23 pm
(http://pile.randimg.net/0/20/5203/avatar.png)
^This is what I'm trying to use as my new avatar (it's a rotating image, if you reload the page, it should show a different picture). Only problem is that it isn't actually showing the image for more than a handful of nanoseconds (if at all).
I used to have a different rotating image avatar, before I switched to the static one I had prior to creating this new one (I'd go back to the old one, but that site closed down a couple weeks ago), and it worked fine.
If I was getting any error messages, I'd be able to figure out the problem on my own, but I'm not getting any error messages at all!

edit: and as you can see, it works fine when used in a post...
edit 2: It worked in another thread on the forums, but it still doesn't seem to work in this thread.
edit 3: And when it does appear in other threads, it is doing that flashing thing again.

Not sure why this happens. It appears to work fine for me. It might be a problem with the script you're using in your browser or SMF just doesn't support rotating avatars at all.

Please submit a bug report at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?board=9.0 .

What browser are you using by the way?

Unless the version of SMF that Omnimaga is using has changed since I came back, it should support it.

Maybe it has to do with the script being used by the random image generator I'm using?

edit: Firefox.

Well, when you originally joined, it was SMF 1.1.11, then we switched to 1.1.12. It might be the script that is not cross-browser compatible, because your avatar shows up fine in Opera. I think someone else had this issue too not so long ago. You may want to post the script on SMF board and explain what happens.

I would if I had the script. I'm using a site that does it for me.

It's working fine for me now, although it wasn't working before.

Actually a few seconds ago I refreshed the page and it didn't load, but other times it always did. Could it be because of traffic load? (Not that Omnimaga forums get heaps of it, but it still gets 20000+ forum hits per day)

It's working fine for me now, although it wasn't working before.
I just uploaded a static image to use instead of the random image I had been trying to use earlier, as I've decided that I will try and find a different random image generator and see if that one will work for me at a later time.

I don't know if it's that, as it's consistently worked fine for me in the post, it just never really worked as an avatar. Also, Omnimaga is the only place where I'm using it, so it shouldn't be getting that much traffic.

Ah ok. it could very well be a problem with the script or it could be something that broke in SMF. Nothing I can do, though, because I do not know PHP.

Also make sure the avatar is on a fast server, not something like Dragcave/Internetometer server. I had to censor images hosted there because they prevented OmnomIRC from loading at all. When someone posts a dragcave image using the img tag, it turns into a link.

I meant the image in your first post, not your Avatar  :P

Same here, unfortunately.

On the bright side, my new avatar (the one I'm using now instead of the random image) will hopefully prevent any more occurrences of people mistaking me for a guy on here.

I actually did that, but I had to edit it so that it was clear who said what (I also changed my nick from the one I was using at that time to my forum name to simplify things as well).
