Title: New Edits
Post by: Freyaday on March 27, 2011, 01:41:15 am
I think there needs to be a set of Newly Edited pages to complement the New Posts pages. So when a post gets edited, it shows up there, instead of going unnoticed. Maybe then we can get rid of the loopholes built in to the No Double Posting rule and threads don't have to be bumped to get an addendum noticed.

Yeah, I very frequently edit my posts to add extra information or screenshots. This would be useful, I think.

I do the same. And this also means clearing up that confusing as hell No double posting rule, which I still haven't figured yet.

Well I'm not sure it's possible. There might be a mod out there for it, but installing new mods is tricky with how many we have installed. A new one might break the site.
It would be nice though.

Sadly I doubt this is possible. We could do like Cemetech and make Spybot notify of edits, but the problem is that we get 400 posts per day and since most people retouch their posts after making them, it's gonna get too spammish. I guess maybe it could check the last edit date and if it has been less than 10 minutes it notifies. Otherwise I don't think this is feasible.

On a side note, edit posts marks the topic as unread. It just doesn't bump it.

EDIT: ANother trick is to delete the previous post then re-add it with the edit, but make sure to not abuse this.

It is a good idea, but when you edit your page, it won't reappear in the top 20 but will be re-marked as 'New!'.  And as for DJ's edited in idea, I do that every now and then.  It's very useful for re-bumping ideas without making a new post -- though you should follow the time period of 6 hours before doing this, since it's considered a 'bump'.  If nobody responds in 6 hours anyways, then maybe they have no comments or don't care to really respond or look (if they are tied up with other things).

I like the 10 minutes thing.

Perhaps It should notify if it's been longer than 10 min.

Oh. I thought he meant the opposite.
