Please delete my account

Sorry in Omnimaga policies we do not delete accounts (except permbanned users or duplicate accounts in the past, but even that is not done anymore I think). We only remove personal informations like e-mail address (hide it from public) or contact info. Also could we know the reason why you would like your account deleted?

Also may I ask why did you delete your posts? Because you had 6 from what I remember.EDIT Nvm those 6 were on Cemetech. (although your first post here seems to have been partially deleted)

I am no longer interested in the calculator community. Please delete my account

We don't delete accounts for that, sorry.

Your account seems to hold no information about you or anything that can be linked to you.
Maybe you should just change your password and forget it?

Also, I am sorry to see you leave.  Was there anything that you feel we, the community, did wrong?  Or did you just lose interest in calculators?

Actually I guess what could be done is to simply ban the account itself from viewing the board, but not the IP, so it's invisible from the list. We stopped deleting accounts except bans in 2008 because often people would request such thing, only to return months later, and if we started to delete every account that are not gonna be used anymore, it would become a major hassle for staff.

I am no longer interested in calculators. Nothing wrong with the community

Well, couldn't you just cease to log on?

Probably (one of)his reason(s) was to have his account deleted because he doesn't want to add another account to the list and waste space(I doubt it's much though). Which is actually a polite thing to do. The only thing I can 'blame' him for is that he didn't rightaway say the reason in his post, but it does not deserve those 2 downratings.

I totally agree with this ^^

The whole point of Omnimaga was to be a friendly place where people can learn about calcs and programming with know fear of being judged. And when a member leaves we should be thanking them for the visit and wishing them luck elsewhere.

To that I say Thanks vxl, for checking us out, and I hope you enjoy the rest of your internet travels :)

Well the thing is in the entire 10 and half a year I've been in the TI community I have never seen anyone request the deletion of his account for losing interest in calculators before. This is why it's not really a common practice. In most cases the account simply gets desactivated. Anyway glad there was nothing wrong with the community and such. I myself no longer really code for calcs but I still usually check around sometimes since I don't really visit many other sites.

It may come to you later vxl, that you do want to be involved in the calculator community, or at least look around calc sites and such. I'm not saying that you will, but the mind does change over time when you put things in perspective. Until then, farewell and good luck with what you hope to do.

/me points to Art_of_camelot as example, who left the entire community in 1998 or so to finally return 9 years later, out of school and still program for the next two years afterward.

How things can change over 9 years or so. We may as well see vxl again.

On a side note, there are calculator programmers who resumed old projects years after stopping them. For example, http://ourl.ca/3119

After 16 years of activity, the person resumed work on his 1992 HP game. So basically we never know. :P

True. Initially I wasn't even sure if I was gonna write it with brown text (fake/joke news) like the recent news, because it was kinda funny, but it was totally real.

But the main thing is that the account hasn't been deleted. Hurrah!

Why not just respect his wishes and delete his account?

You must have a Z-score of 0 because you are being mean.

Extremely clever pun aside, there is a page and a half of reasons why we are not deleting his account, the primary being because it is against our policy, and the lack of harm of keeping it online.

Well, the time frame is wrong, but your point is correct. :) We have several inactive accounts here, as people do loose interest or move on. None of them have ever been deleted for such a reason though. Also, we have had cases where people come back months or years later to pop in and say hi or resurface. Life's circumstances are always changing, and it's nice to be able to come back to find things still in place. :)

I'm not sure how it is being mean by deleting his account. There is no advantage to deleting his account, except for, if vxl really thinks it, satisfaction that he has removed himself from the calc community. But he may change in a few years time, who knows, so we are technically doing him a favour by keeping his account.

Plus a lot of forums don't delete accounts because if everyone started doing the same, this would waste staff work and give bad habits to members. Everytime someone took a break, he would beg for a deletion, only to return one month later and request their old posts to be merged with new account. Also a lot of former members return later anyway. Example: Radical Pi and Aaroneus.

This would also be a huge mess if any drama occured between members, if ragequits occurs.

Damn it, how about Ashbad asking for his account to be deleted? I saw some posts in which he'd decided to quit and then changed his mind. Then, I couldn't find a more recent topic about him.

Looks like he ended up leaving anyways :P

And yeah it's been said multiple times but normally accounts aren't deleted.

His situation was a bit more complex. He eventually was banned for his behavior problems. If his account was deleted, (I'm not sure) it was after he got banned. His account would not have been deleted otherwise.

*edit* accidently hit modify on your above post instead of quote. That's why it says "edited by". Sorry about that.  x.x

Back then we always deleted an account after it was permanently banned (not anymore), so that's why his account is gone.

Well that was what it was like for me.
I thought I could program easy, but I felt I wasn't ready, so I registered here
and went through all the courses in my school until I felt I could be determined
enough to learn Ti-BASIC, then I saw Axe Parser... And now look where I am! :D

Wow I wasn't really aware of that. It seemed like he wanted to leave anyway but he also got permanently banned too.
Yeah, that says the only time accounts get deleted is if you get yourself permanently banned and can play no more part in Omnimaga on that account. For vxl he can still return any time he likes.

He didn't really seems to want to leave because even thought he kept saying so, he still wouldn't stop posting, even after we removed his sub-forums per his request. I guess he was only staying to troll, though. But yeah it looks like banned members are no longer deleted either anyway, except bots.

Hmm, that made me realise why the member count has gone up so exponentially since 2010. I remember in 2010 about 300 members were actually deleted because they were spambots. Now it's much different as 1900+ members includes permanently banned members.
Title: Re: Please delete my account
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 11, 2012, 07:22:08 pm
Yeah about 3500 bots per month sign up, but after their account is made, the anti-spam detects about 99.8% of them.

Wow, and we're still getting so many members, yet our overall post count is going down. Interesting...

Lol :P
3500 spambots per month? O.O
That's....that's... 116.66666666666666 spambots per day D:!
