Title: #ponies
Post by: Juju on June 11, 2014, 12:43:39 pm
Well, it seems it's the latest fashion to take a pony nick on IRC... If you don't know yet we have #ponies on Omninet for pony talk, so please join it! I laid out some rules for the channel (especially for pony nicks) here, along with a list of #ponies so you won't get confused about who's who on #omnimaga: http://juju2143.ca/omniponies.html

Quote
irc.omnimaga.org #ponies about page

Network: irc://irc.omnimaga.org
Ponies/out-of-character channel: #ponies
Roleplay channel: #rp

If you want a pony nick on Omninet, pick a pony not on the list and contact Juju to register it on the list.

Don't forget to /ns register under your main nick, /ns group your pony nick and /groupserv join !ponies

For better identification please take an appropriate host to your Omnimaga rank with /hs offerlist (or /hs request) and /hs take <vhost> (preferably one of those containing $account). For questions ask on #omnimaga.

Actually, pony or not, I encourage everyone to register with NickServ and take a vhost on HostServ.

Can you explain what is hostserv ? :P If I already synced my Omni group I'm in right ?

Well, instead of having your IP address in your whois and when you join you'd have something like Streetwalrus.users.irc.omnimaga.org instead. HostServ lets you change it.

Would the channel be for ponies talk or would it be for RPing?

Also while I am fine with some ponies talk in #omnimaga (when there is no calc programming discussion or important stuff going on) and would personally not segregate specific game/shows discussions based on if I like them or not, the many nick changes to ponies in #omnimaga lately has gotten pretty irritating, because it's getting very hard to remember who is who there now and getting confusing if you need to talk to the person involved.

There's a separate channel for RP. Which is #rp.

FYI the nickname is network wide. This is just laziness because we don't want to have multiple connections and changing nicks all the time sucks. :P

Also this is why I made this list in the OP, you can refer to it to guess who's who. Plus if you're on Omninet you can /whois those people and you know who they are (hence why I pushed them to use NickServ).

Most of the time I change my nick before joining or just after. Also I occassionally tend to switch nicks when there's not much pony talk going on. I try not to overdo it, tho :p

Yeah I know, but the issue is that when people use those alt nicks, it's very hard to know who is who in #omnimaga. >.<

Just type /whois <nickname> and you'll get the info on the person. I don't know if Soru implemented it in OmnomIRC but he should if he didn't.

True, but sometimes even on IRC the whois doesn't always show all info. I remember some people used usernames that were different than their nickname before and with that many users we can't always remember from just the hostmask or vhost.

For the people who have their IRC profile synced to their Omni account, it shows "Is logged in as <Omni name>".

Ah right I see. I guess however it doesn't solve the issue about people who don't want to switch to Omninet (or are in #cemetech and just want to stay on 1 server)

There's no point in that. People who chat from EFnet are rare.
