Title: Should math/physics/chem programs/projects be split from other calc projects?
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on June 18, 2010, 08:00:47 pm
As you might have noticed, there is an increase in amount of math projects and programs being announced on Omnimaga since the past few weeks. I believe this is due to Omnimaga being more popular and attracting a more varied userbase. I do not have anything against school-related programs, since they are the most useful thing you can have on your calc for school, but as most of you know, unlike sites such as United-TI, TI-BASIC Developper, TI-BANK and CalcGames, Omnimaga has always been a TI community that focuses primarly on game development. Basically this means the majority of projects are either games or tools to help people games. I do not want to disallow posting math/physics/chem programs in the project sub-forums nor the calc discussion ones, but I was wondering if study-related projects/releases should be split into a different sub-forum, to prevent an eventual cluttering of the other projects/ideas sub-forum? And where such new sub-forum should be located? Should it be made to allow non-calc-related math discussion as well? Or should we simply have all school-related products go under "Other calc news/discussions" and not add any sub-forum?

I would say not necessarily make it a school related sub-forum, but just a math/science/other area. But I do think another sub-forum for that stuff would be good because it will eventually lessen the clutter between programs and such.

I think a sub forum for that stuff would be good, but just for the calculator stuff, since i think most of the math discussions and stuff can still go under "Miscellaneous"

Ya, I agree with that.

Yeah I thought about maybe making it calc-only, because then it would be an hassle to figure out where to put the sub-forum (since we have a calc-only and off-topic-only section, but no hybrid ones :P)

Yeah, plus, while we do seem to be getting an influx of those kind of programs, we aren't being spammed with school questions so far, so we're probably good there. =P

Well I think that is because a majority of school is out right now for summer. I know not everywhere, but ya.

Since this forum is attracting so many members now and there is the Nspire stuff, I somehow expect activity to raise higher in late August compared to previous years, kinda like UTI and other boards. I could be wrong, though. There will most likely also be new calculator users asking for help on running TI-Boy SE (like last year) and gbc4nspire (plus Ndless)

I'm fine with a new section for math/physics/chemistry programs. More organization is better as long as it isn't too confusing, IMO.
