Title: Spam section (page #1) hack/glitch?
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 29, 2012, 04:28:12 am
I noticed a problem on the forums in the past two or three days O.O:

Everytime I try opening the spam sub-forum ( http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?board=20.0 ) on page #1, it takes a very long while to load and page execution time (at the bottom of the page) consistently shows 14 seconds load (it never goes under 14.000 or 14.999 sec). All other sub-forums, along with every other page of the spam section, load fine (unless I load spam then try loading another section before spam finished loading)

Could you look into this? Because this is strange that only one forum section, let alone one single page of it, would take this long to load, while every other section/page loads fine (they average around 0.500 seconds). ??? I'M thinking something on that page got hacked, such as a topic title or something else, or there's a glitch. It's not because it has too many topics/posts, because the calc projects and news sections, even if we exclude sub-forums there, have way more posts, yet they load perfectly fine.

Could it also be caused by the presence of minus topic IDs in the page? I noticed that other sections loads slower when viewing entire pages of minus topics (around 1.9 sec execution time), while positive topic pages load normally. However I'm thinking it's not that, because the first page of spam takes far more than 1.9 seconds and it only has a few minus world topics. ???

That is weird, DJ_O, good thing you brought it up.
It is taking a while to load, maybe there is a lot of downloading/uploading required for that board page?

No reason why this should be the case considering it uses the same PHP code as every other board page, unless somebody managed to hack in some script in the topic titles/descriptions or ezportal that causes intense server resource usage just on that page.

I just tried it and compared with other pages.

Spam 1st page

Page created in 16.332 seconds with 34 queries

2nd page

Quote
Page created in 0.548 seconds with 36 queries

News 1st page

Quote
Page created in 0.734 seconds with 33 queries

Weird :s

Yeah. I tried many pages elsewhere on the forums and the highest it would go to is 1.9 sec, in the minus world. Even in projects, where minus topics were necroposted in, creating a mix of positive and negative thread IDs in the list like the first page of spam, I did not even get close to that.

Wow, I noticed that Omnimaga would lag enormously once in a while, but I never realized there was a pattern. I have no idea why though...

Yeah I noticed the lag recently, but it was rather rare. Now I noticed the new pattern. ???

Deep, could you try putting HTML in topic descriptions? (Edit my first post without quick modify to test) I wonder if it works...

Nope, doesn't work.

OK, good, so that cannot be used as exploit or something.
