Splitting the Axe Parser sub-forum in half?
« on: December 13, 2010, 03:18:20 am »
I have been wondering this for a while: As you can see, the Axe Parser sub-forum got very huge and since several topics are large, it can be hard to search anything. I think it would be good if all tutorials were stickied at the top of the sub-forum, but then the problem is that there would be too many stickied topic and it would be harder to get to the main updates topics. So I was wondering... should we split help topics from threads about Axe project itself and utilities?

Does help topics include questions asked by users?

Yeah, except the help asked inside the progress topics, but sadly not much could be done about that (although maybe a sub-forum might discourage asking help in those huge topics)

True.  I guess if it was like a sub-forum inside the axe sub-forum, that was pinned, then I would support the change.

I think it would be a good idea, since it's gotten so large. What about putting just the help topics under Calculator Programming and Support as another language?

Would it be fine if when you opened the Axe forum, it showed both sub-forums there in the list, like when you open the general calc help section?

That would work too IMO as long as they appear under "Child Boards:" under the main forum page. That way we could still get to them in one click.

I like the idea, its getting really hard to find things there.  and also, may I suggest starting a Axe Parser Thread #2?  its really hard to follow the thread and where you last left off.  :P

I like the idea, although it could take time to apply the change.  Perhaps if you created the second board and asked staff to help move topics?

I agree with the idea, and also mirror Sir's sentiment, we could create the board and move them gradually (although maybe it would be best not to post a bazillion of those redirect topics?)

Well, we shouldn't post redirect topics at all, I think.  All I'm saying is that the entire staff would be more effective than one or two people at mass-moving posts.

Yeah I would split the boards and put them as child boards, not put a sub-board inside the Axe one, so both appears as child boards on board index. First I would need to ask Quigibo, though (if he doesn't see this topic).

Eventually I was gonna move the Axe help topics in general calc help along with BASIC, ASM and C, but it would be too spread out. Maybe if I could find a mod so a child board can appear in multiple categories...

-Axe Parser updates, utilities and discussion
Discussion about the Axe Parser project and utilities to program in Axe.

-Axe sprite/map editors
To avoid cluttering the section above, we made one exclusively for Axe sprite editors.

-Axe Programming help & tutorials
Need help programming in Axe or have a good tutorial to share? This section is for you!

How does that sound like?

great!  although the sprite editor subforum should be merged with the Pixel Art subforum, IMO, or maybe as a child board of it.
