Unfortunately, after Texas Instruments has sent a cease & desist letter to TI-BANK for providing downloads of TI's copyrighted TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS OS (specifically the OS 1.1.9253 TNO and TNC files, required by Ndless), we are no longer allowed to provide any download of them either. Same goes for other TI websites, else, we will get in trouble. This includes providing links via private messenger systems. In other words, it is against our rules to provide links to the OS 1.1.9253 (or 1.1) TNO and TNC files and to not take any chance, we are not going to provide any to more recent OSes either. We understand that Ndless requires 1.1.x on your TI-Nspire to be installed, but we do not want to get in trouble either. In the worst cases, providing links to those files could make Texas Instruments send a DMCA notice directly to my web hosting, then 1and1.com could shut down Omnimaga altogether.
So we ask members to:
1) Not ask for copies of OS 1.1.9253 TNO and TNC files on the forums in public or via PM. In other words, such links/files must not appear in our MySQL database.
2) Not provide links to copies of those files, either in public or PM, unless they are directly hosted somewhere on TI website (which I doubt). Either tell the member who requests them to search for them himself or find a different way to provide him the links.
Also:
A) Google is your friend, but it appears to easily filter that content. You may have some luck if you spend enough effort searching for the files. Be wise when trying to figure out the OS file names.
B) There are less legal places to find the OSes, which people cannot link to here, but if you know any, use those if Google fails for you.
C) Ndless is eventually going to come out for OS 2.0.x, so if you are patient, you can instead wait for this to happen.
All links to the official TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS OSes/ROM images, unless coming directly from somewhere hidden on Texas Instruments website, will be deleted, and the topic requests will be locked.
Thanks to TI acting retarded instead of allowing the TI community to increase TI-Nspire sales with ASM dev, the redistribution of their old OSes on Omnimaga now falls under Rule #5 of our site (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=ezportal;sa=page;p=2).
Thank you for understanding.
-
Oh well. Is there a development forum somewhere for Ndless's development? They don't appear to have their own site.
-
UTI is passing the situation...
There are a lot of persons in the community that have those things.
I like to collect these kind of files. It is simply lovely. So if you are looking for something unusual, try to PM me. I found in so strange places that if I didn't noted the link, I would have serious trouble finding again.
-
keep in mind you cannot share the files via PM, though. This needs to be done in different ways, preferably not on another TI forum either.
Most Nspire talk is done on UTI forums, and in french on yAronet and TI-BANK, but it has been quiet lately to make sure TI won't use the info from the devs to patch the exploits they found.
-
There's always email....
Hehe, I stole all but one of your trophies DJ
-
Aw I only have one anymore :(
-
yep, and I have 2 from the same game. You might want to fix that, and have us overwrite our old highscores
-
mhmm strange, this must be a bug x.x
Since I do not code in PHP this means I would have to wait until the author updates his arcade, though (last update was in February 2009). If it won't get updated and that I start having way too many problems, then I'll just do what I said a while ago and ditch the arcade x.x
-
Well, it'sn not a bug, I just have the Gold and Silver since I beat everyone twice on that game.
The easiest fix would be to only have 1 highscore per person, and have a tiny script that keeps the highest one.
-
Oh wait I see, you got two of the best 3 scores at the game, then it's fine. It's not really a bug then. however, I guess having one highscore per person might be best, though, it would reduce database size because there are over 9000 scores x.x
I don't know if the highest score will be saved this way, though. I'll try and if it doesn't then I'll be forced to leave it as it is, unless you can actually modify the arcade mod yourself without breaking compatibility when it comes to upgrading x.x http://sleepy-arcade.ath.cx/E-Arcade2.5.9_update_SMF1.1.11.zip
-
sorry. I'm no good with HTML and PHP. I like C and BASIC, much more straightforward, and I don't need all the <><><><><><> everywhere.
-
well I tried setting max stored highscores to 1, and it did not delete old scores. I tried other options as well and still no luck, so I guess we're forced to keep all scores as they are unless I feel like deleting about 2000 scores one by one one day
-
maybe that setting only works for future scores. You could keep only the top 3 and delete the lists if that was the case.
-
Yeah but I do not feel like deleting over 9000 scores. It will be too much work, game by game. You seems to want me to fix so many stuff that hardly matters on the forums. There are things that are beyond my capacities and time. If you absolutely want them fixed so badly why don't you volunter to fix them yourself?
-
wow mega ot
oh and i like the os link dj :P
-
sorry I don't understand what you mean, could you rephrase?
-
nvm rember a link to a nspire os on irc from you that linked to starcraft.swf :P
-
oh that, yeah lol I posted a link to a Nspire file but it redirected to a rickroll :P
What did you mean by mega ot? :P
-
big round of offtopicness
eg /me looks at title looks at convo
:P
-
oh ok :P
-
I've just seen this on UTI:
*snip*
This tool sends you copy of any existing Nspire OS to your email account.
@DJ Omnimaga: if you feel that this post shouldn't be on the forum, feel free to delete it.
-
Yes! OSes!!!! Now I can rund ndless on the emu!
EDIT: If the link gets taken down, people can PM me and I'll email them the site, if that's ok with you, DJ
-
Well I'm taking it down since I am not sure about the legality of the thing. If you want to redistribute such link you will have to do it on external sites including e-mail, "/queries" and messengers
-
Yeah. I have the URL Bookmarked, so someone can email me for the URL. My email is in my profile.
Be warned that the Oses don't come with the boot2 .img files in them. I don't know why it's not there, but it works just fine in the emu with a later version's boot2.
-
Strange x.x
Oh well, at least it can still be used for testing ^.^
-
If you are talking about the older versions of the OS, then this is normal, since TI didn't update the boot2 code.
-
A) Google is your friend, but it appears to easily filter that content. You may have some luck if you spend enough effort searching for the files. Be wise when trying to figure out the OS file names.
My best friends are WGS. Wiki, Google, and Sparknotes :)
btw, is it okay to post the link of the google that shows the link to the place you can download to? like, using lmgtfy (http://lmgtfy.com/) (let me google that for you)?
It wouldn't directly send you to download page, but it would make people easier to find a place to download. And I just don't mean google, but through other search engine as well, since google does seem to block these kind of things.
-
I'm not too sure. Given that results are never really first I guess it may be ok as long as you don't select "I'm feeling lucky" when creating your lmgtfy link. Also don't use lmgtfy against new members since it may sound rude. If they insist, though, then I guess it is ok.
I would avoid other search engines, though.
-
oh okay, i got it. yeah it might sound a bit rude, because when it finishes typing for you, it goes: "Was that so hard?"
-
Being mocked by a script is a fair price to get that damned file.
If someone could email or pm it to me, i would appreciate it ;D
Thank.

No. You're not on the right way. :p
All OS from TI have the boot2.img upgrade. But "we" removed them with a script that make the OS lighter.
This has two good things :
- the OSes files are lighter and easier to transport up to 50% size left
- It make many space into the handheld unit, up to 3Mo

-
Do you mean that even the ones with the first version of the boot2 code have a boot2.img in the upgrade files?
-
Is there any harm in sending the OS from this "source" without the boot2 code. I sent 1.1 and it worked fine. Is this normal, or do I have to add the boot2. Also, if TI ever released a OS that was not downgradeable, would it be possible to put an old boot2 code in the file and send it so it is possible to downgrade? Thanks! :)

Wow, sorry for confusing, I understand what you told now !
Ignore my post, I was just talking about OSes files >1.4 :p

@apcalc
Since the boot2 never changes, the OS update doesn't include it. Get ahold of 1 boot2.img and it will work for any OS, Period.

The OS update does have the ability to upgrade the boot2, and there are two versions of it so far. boot1 is the one that cannot change.
-
Really? I didn't know there were two. Would that be why ndless doesn't work on later versions?
-
yeah boot2 is a part of the boot sequence. Just get boot2.img.
-
Ndless doesn't work on later versions because TI patched out the OS exploits needed by it. It has nothing to do with boot2.
-
IIRC, the exploit used to run Ndless 2.0 (not released yet) is the exact same accross 1.7, 2.0 and 2.0.1, right?
-
well i heard lobsters like hoarding files just to put that out there :P

O.o?

It's not easy to find on google and it is really hard if you just type in "ti nspire os 1.1"
-
Usually I just type the entire version number including the digits at the end, but it's definitively hard to find. I am pretty sure TI asked Google to filter those results. They're bad like this.
I wonder if searching with adult filter turned OFF would help a bit, though, because Google could be filtering sites that aren't really adult-only sometimes.

A clue : the "link" is on a famous forum and in a famous thread.
If you followed the action, it is not either on Omnimaga, nor on TI-bank. Where does it still can be ? it is easy, but google is not your friend on this play
no more clues for now :p
-
And if you fall into another site, watch out for viruses (sometimes they're in the ads) :P
-
(Mods plz remove if violates rules.)
try the program called sandboxie.
it now works for 64 bit :P
what it does is, isolate all changes the program that is runing through it.
so usually if you do get a virus or you want to be safe, you can delete all changes
i am saying that you might like to run IE8 or what ever through sandboxie while searching :P

You can send all OSes without the boot2, by removing it from the tnc/tno archive if necessary. The OS will work, because you allready have a boot2 in your TI-Nspire! Without the boot2, the USB plug wouldn't work anyway, and you wouldn't be able to send anything...
But no, it is not possible to downgrade the boot2 from 1.4 to 1.1, by just putting the old boot2.file with a matching boot2.cer file in a tnc/tno archive.
I've allready tried, and managed to get a correct tnc/tno file, but the boot2 was not updated. Looking at the debug log, I've figured out what happens:
The newly installed OS first boots with the calculator boot2. After booting, the OS checks the boot2 version, and updates it if there is a newer version in the tnc/tno archive.
So if you've got a TI-Nspire with boot2 1.1 and send a tnc/tno with boot2 1.4, the boot2 will be updated after the 1st boot of the OS.
If you've got a TI-Nspire with boot2 1.4 and send a tnc/tno with boot2 1.1, the boot2 won't be updated, because it is not a newer version.
We could surely write the old boot2 1.1 using Ndless and a specific program which could be named "boot2writer".
But, this is dangerous: If the programs fails for any reason and leaves you with an invalid boot2, your TI-Nspire won't boot any more... And you won't be able to install a new OS/boot2, because the USB plug won't work any more...
By the way, I've found a boot2 related bug with OS 2.1.
On a TI-Nspire basic with the old boot2 1.1 and OS 2.1, the calculator just freezes when the "loading OS" progress bar reache 100%. Notice in that case, your boot2 won't be updated beacause the OS hasn't started yet. So a reboot will fail too!
There is no problem with boot2 1.4. Strangely, there is no problem either on a TI-Nspire CAS with boot2 1.1.
-
Ouch, the boot2 overwriting failure reminds me a bit of the 83+ OS certificate. If a bad ASM program overwrite the flash memory sector that has the certificate then you delete the OS, you're screwed. BrandonW wrote a program to fix the certificate, though.

Hi and welcome on the forums. By the way all OSes except 1.1 are still available on TI website. You can see the thread at http://ourl.ca/7373 .
OS 1.1 is useless now, though, because it's limited and Ndless works fine on OS 1.7, 2.0.1 and 2.1.0. I also added stuff in your e-mail address in your post so spambots won't grab it.
