Title: Allowed Axioms deadline for next contest
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on May 05, 2011, 05:02:17 pm
Hi,

As planned for months, there is supposed to be an Axe contest again this year (the rest of the staff have worked stuff out about hosting and contest prizes for the three contests, since Omnimaga is here to stay). However, the difference is that this year, Axioms will be allowed. However, Axioms made after May 15th, 1 AM GMT-5, will not be accepted. This includes updates. If Runer112 decides to update his Axiom after May 15th, you cannot use the update, you have to use the versions released before May 15th. This excludes, however, MemKit, which comes with Axe Parser.

Basically, if you want to allow the enhancment of Axe language through axioms for use with the contest, then you only have 10 days left to release it. Any Axiom or Axiom update released after this date other than the official Axiom MemKit will not be allowed.

This is to prevent, for example, somebody from coming up with a 8 level grayscale variable wall height raycasting engine, release it here, then everyone releases their contest entries like "L@@K! I MADE A 8 LV RAYCASTAR IN EXE!!1!one".

This is a good idea actually, I don't want people to use pure Asm in their Axe projects.

And YAY AXE CONTEST.

Yeah someone will make an axiom where you type starcraft() and the entire game is done for you. All you do is choose if you want sound, grayscale, 2D or 3D.

Prizes will most likely be the same as last year, or something similar. We do not give material prizes, though, because most users here are still under the wrath of their parents and their parents won't allow them to receive items shipped from the Internet. So yeah it will still be online prizes like gift cards or the like.

LOL!  I don't think anyone is going to make any axiom where all you have to do is type a single command to run a complete game for a simple reason: It would require them to actually make that entire game in pure assembly first!  If someone did make am entire game that complicated within the contest deadline, I would be very shocked!  If you are still trying to avoid that though, its very easy to check the source for things like that since Axioms would be part of their submitted "source" so I think this could be enforced with the rule that at least say... 70% of the size of their code must be native axe.  For example:  If the Axiom is 5kb and their executable is 6kb, then you know something is definitely suspicious about that.  But if the axiom is 1kb and their executable is 7kb, this seems like a fair usage of an Axiom.

Runer112 did one O.O

J/k but yeah I also thought about requring that ASM code remains to a certain level in games. For example, someone won't be able to use 6 KB of ASM and 1 KB of Axe.

So some one needs to set up a list of the axioms that are allowable, along with a version download link.  That ensures fair use by all parties.

Seconded. Also, when does the contest end?
