that would be useful, to find out other attributes of the program stored in the VAT.  however, if I'm not mistaken, there might be a simple way to do this in a few commands already (not sure, thought I saw something like that before.)

I think that would be better for an Axiom like MemKit (not sure if it already has this).

In connection with this, I've always thought it would be nice if the inData() routine returned 0 instead of the position of the terminator when the byte to search for is 0. As in the example I cited, we currently have to navigate around this problem by tagging +1's onto everything. Unless you have a reason for preferring the way the current routine treats 0 inputs, can this be changed?

And if you want to change it, I'll make things even easier. After a bit of playing around I have come up with a routine that should implement this change. It is the same size as the current routine and about the same speed; the amount of overhead cycles isn't vastly different, and it only takes 4 cycles more per iteration. Anyway, here it is:

Code: [Select]
p_InData:
.db __InDataEnd-$-1
ex de,hl
xor a
ld h,a
ld l,a
__InDataLoop:
cp c
ret z
ld a,(de)
inc de
inc hl
or a
jr nz,__InDataLoop
ld h,a
ld l,a
ret
__InDataEnd:

EDIT: Also, because I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering about this, I'll go ahead and ask it:

Nested libraries would be nice.
Nested libraries? ???

He means libraries within libraries. Remember that in Axe, you can use prgmNAME to include the Axe program called NAME as if it were inline. Nested libraries means that we could use this same concept within the referenced program (which we currently can't do).

I would really like nested subprograms, but having subprograms one level deep already made compiling a lot slower :-\

But that would be slower, since its two loops we have to worry about. Its the same as the logic of having a DispGraphClrDraw command. However, this routine could be coded yourself:
Code: [Select]
For(I,0,767
0→{L3+I}→{L6+I}
End

Using an optimized assembly routine, I guess I could make a routine for clearing both buffers at once. ClrDraw \ ClrDrawr would take 34592 cycles by my calculation. The following routine (including the call) would take 25405 cycles, so about 1/3 faster.

Code: [Select]
p_ClearBothBuffers:
ld hl,plotSScreen
ld de,appBackUpScreen
ld bc,768
xor a
__ClearBothBuffersLoop:
ld (hl),a
ldi
jp pe,__ClearBothBuffersLoop
ret

My spring break is next week.  I will finally have time to pick this project up again so expect an update in about a week.  I know there have been a lot of bugs/feature requests recently that I've probably forgot about or missed, I will try to reread most of the features wishlist, bug reports, and optimization threads on Friday so if there are any other important things you feel I should do not already mentioned in those threads, now would be a good time to bring them up there.

A way to merge multiple buffers into one and two-bit color sprites: black, grey, white, transparent or black, dark grey, light grey, white. I don't know if this has been asked before, custom size sprites?

I would like to be able to have more buffer control.

Such as having "appvarScreen" be able to be displayed on the screen (without messing with L3 or L6)
Have monochrome display where both buffers are drawn. (allows masking and other things)
Possible more lvl's of gray where you could use Dispgraph( A , L3, L6 )  where A is pointing to something in the ram.  Or could that be an axiom?
thepenguin77's perfect grayscale tutorial brings up a good request: changing the display routines to advance in rows instead of in columns. Although this would possibly slow the routines down a bit, even without perfect crystal timer synchronization, this should make the grayscale look better.
My calculator, and one of my friend's calc (ti-84+ and 84+SE) still cant handle 4 lvl grayscale (and 3 has problems too)  So maybe this could allow all users to have better displaying and slow it down enough to work on some calcs (Types L and M that I have seen)

Thank you for your time.
As a side note, the calc's that I have seen fail with the Gray, also have problems linking together (probably coincidence)

We have "BUFFER->DispGraph" :) No greyscale, though, for that.
