Title: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on June 15, 2014, 10:56:57 am
Well, 123outerme said I could try and port this.
Estimated time: 10+months

Progress so far:
Spoiler For outdated info:
I finished the main program that you run.
Now I need to make the gameplay part, which would be hard.

If anyone wants a screenshot I'll try to get one/an emulator

This is written in pure 68k BASIC on a V200  :)
Okay. New update.
I'm making this into one program, and no DLC packs.
The intro is done, I'm working on the game play.

I would love some testers and debuggers. I'm getting all my information about the commands from TI|BD.

And vote in the poll for new features, you should also post ideas below

Same. That's one reason I got a V200 instead of a HP prime.

Another reason was because it looked cool  :D

By the way will the game use some enhanced graphics? Because the V200 supports BASIC sprites so you could replace the ASCII chars with actual sprites. :D

Really? I'll try. Where could I get info?

Oh, and I've been getting a "variable name is limited to 8 charactors" error when I run the program, and when I hit goto. it takes me to a disp commnad. Help please?

Yeah, I'm using the try command

EDIT: Never mind, I'm using seperate disp commands

If only calc had cameras
ANYWAYS, (digress fail aeTIos) I finished the intro and started the gameplay, which I need help on the output commands.

Here's some pics (I know this is a double, but this could be huge. I feel bad for doing this)

Everything I've done so far. Stuck on gameplay.

P.S. 123outerme could you give me a list of variables to "local"?

Make sure it runs fine on the 89/89ti. These have a smaller screen than the 92/92II/92+/V200.

That with what Street said. (Even though I lost my 89 D: ) I hope to see much progress in this!

Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on June 16, 2014, 12:27:19 pm
Uh Oh... I don't know about the 89/89tis... I don't think so...
I'll just say 92/92II/92+/V200 only if it doesn't

All "disp" commands so far.

I need some serious help with the output commands. Vote on the poll when I'm done

I hate when teachers or parents do that x.x. That said I prefer this than TI blocking ASM/C/Ndless <_<.

My suggestion, if not done already, would be to make the intro logo so that you can skip the animation. It takes a long while to draw in the 83+ version so it would be nice if we could skip it.

Why does your dad make you do a memory clear on a calc you don't use in school? O.o
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Hayleia on June 23, 2014, 02:36:35 pm
I don't know how 68k calcs work, but maybe you could make backups on calc ? On z80 calcs it is for example possible to create groups, that are basically archived copies of programs (or any variable). So with that, you can RAM Clear, show your dad that your program is gone and then ungroup it when he's away. It doesn't work with Full Mem Clear but if your dad doesn't know anything about calcs, a RAM Clear could convince him that your cleared all your memory.
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on June 23, 2014, 05:11:25 pm
The memory was cleared because I was playing games :p
and there's no Ram clear message or anything. The code's easy anyways.
and for the intro, it's one nice long disp command with I characters. I couldn't make the animation (and I did play the 83+ version

By playing games do you mean you were abusing them when you shouldn't ? :P
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k

Yeah it probably depends. If he was supposed to do chores or homework or exceeded his time limit to play games then this might explain the mem clear, but certain parents are actually against calc games so they might do it no matter what.

My parents only let me do programming, but most of the time they are okay with gaming.

You could probably explain to them that if what you program is a game that you actually need to play the game to ensure it's actually working properly. :P

My dad does programming and hardware, my mom doesn't care.
(Let's stop getting off topic)

I need to learn more 68k BASIC, so this is on hold while I try to make some other things to improve my skills.

I think I can do this now. Progress will be slow and there will be no sprites for now.

Update: made a moving pi across screen.
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 15, 2014, 01:10:53 am
Although there will be no sprite for now, remember that in pure 68K BASIC using sprites is possible, since picture files can be any size.
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on September 15, 2014, 06:59:56 pm
I know, I just need to make the Basic version first, and then add sprites and perhaps a background.
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on September 29, 2014, 10:51:02 pm
Here is the basic version, with sword swings with f1 and moving with arrow keys. Escape quits, though you have to press f5 to get out of the I/O screen.

The best I can do currently. The enemy I tried to implement has some problems in where it spawns always in one place and multiple ones appear. I deleted that code because it needed re-thinking, so don't worry about it being here.

Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on November 16, 2014, 11:39:16 am
I made a video for what I have:
Currently the sword does nothing
The enemy chases you, you are slower than the enemy

I've made some progress

That's amazing! Will the sword have any delay between displaying it and erasing it?
Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on November 20, 2014, 03:52:09 pm
It has a delay because I tried to make it like the original.

At about 0:10 I hit f1 and use the sword.

The following posts state that I had a memory clear and re-wrote it :P

Title: Re: Source Seekers 68k
Post by: Princetonlion.tibd on November 28, 2014, 01:30:03 pm
It's the same version as in the video.

There is an enemy (Letter S) that chases you (Theta character), and you have a sword (that doesn't work yet) that you use with f1.

You also move slower than the enemy.
