Title: Tamagotchi 89
Post by: Stefan Bauwens on February 07, 2012, 11:32:40 am
Okay, here I am. I know I've been quite a while inactive here, but it was for a good cause. :P
Mabe you guys still remember that my very first avatar here was a Tamagothi drawed on a 89? Well that was a discontinued program of me, but now...
I am planning to make a Tamagotchi Simulator of the original one(P1/Gen1) in TI-Basic for the 89. :D
There is one HUGE problem though: I don't own a Tamagotchi anymore. I ever had one but lost it. Therefore I have joined a tamagotchi forum where I hope to get the info I need about this tamagotchi, since I want to make a correct simulator. Anyway, this is in early PLANNING stages only. I am not yet busy on the calc.

So once I get all the information I need to know I'll officially start on it. I hope everything goes fine.. The good thing is that if I get it good finished I might be able to use the engine for other tamagotchis(P2, angelgotchi, ocean, etc..).
So yeah, just that you know what I am up to. ;)

P.s: If you still have an old tamagotchi that is just lying in your house feel free to send it to me. :P :P

My first avatar(so you have an idea how it will look like):

If you need some sprites, I'll be glad to help you. :D

Thanks, but I don't think I'll need that, since I'll use the original sprites. :)
Sounds cool Stefan, looking forward to seeing your progress! :D
Thanks, I'll try to put some time into this although I'm studying for exams. :/

This is great! I have a Tamagotchi v5.5, and had one of those $2 "digipet" fake tamagotchi (it's broken now btw).
I have played the Gameboy version on gbc4nspire (of course!). Perhaps that might help?
EDIT: Actually tho I doubt it cause it was quite different.

Yes, it's pretty different iirc. But I'm thinking of buying one. :)

The v5.5? Yeah. However I heard the v6 (which was available when I purchased the v5.5 btw but for an extra $10 AUD) is even more different. It focuses on music and your tamagotchis pursue some sort of music career. Anyway, I don't really know how to get v1 cuz it's almost like a classic toy and will be hard to find.
There have been some Tamagotchi games made before but none like the graphical one you're attempting:

Just search in ticalc.org.

Oh, I meant buying a P1/Gen1, which may be confused with version 1/V1. P1 is even older than the V1. ;)
And yes they are pretty rare and expensive. I found one that I think I'll buy though. :)

Also that tamagotchi(in the link) looks more textbased. Mine will probably look more like this one: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/151/15179.html

I have ordered a Tamagotchi P2, so that'll hopefully help me a lot. :)
Just waiting for it to be sent.

Yes! I got my tamagotchi in the mail today. I'll note everything it does, in the hope I find it's 'algorithm' :P.
Just letting you guys know. ;)

Hey sorry for not replying, I didn't notice the post there, I am just passing on my posting spree.
Wow I didn't know about the P1/P2 versions. Good to see you have a P2. So how is the coding going overall?
Title: Re: Tamagotchi 89

Well, there's not any coding going on yet. That's, I think, the most easy part. What I'm now doing is running my P2, and writing everything down it does(like when it goes to sleep, needs to eat, gets sick, etc...).
And I put it on pause a lot(I just put the time to SET)  because I really don't want to miss anything important.
So far it seems, a little bit surprising to me, that it's not really random at all, even though it may seem like that. But that's good for me. :P
After my Tamagotchi 'dies', 'goes to heaven', (whatever you like to call it), I will probably run it again still a few times to see the characteristic's of each character.

:)

Interesting. I like how the image look like. Also I didn't realize tamagochi still existed, since I rarely hear about them anymore nowadays.

Well, the one I have isn't anymore sold officially(although it was new). Now they sell the Tama-Go(the modern tamagotchi's) which are in color and can connect to the computer. Totally different actually than the old ones.

Tama-Go? I've never heard of them, and in colour? That's a surprise. I mus pursue and find out about this!
EDIT: The actual portable isn't in colour lol, it's on the computer, I might have heard of something like this b4.

Oh, I'm sorry. I am mistaken indeed. The Tama-go isn't in colour but this one is : http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g310/binary_pics/misc/Nov2008Tamagotchi.jpg
It's called the "Tamagotchi Colour".

Yes I read about this on the Wikipedia page, it was a Japanese exclusive model. However the Tama-Go is 4 color grayscale. Good luck with porting the Tamagotchi over to calc. Maybe when you're done with the basic engine stuff you could add some grayscale?

Well, maybe, but since the new tama's and the basic tama's(which don't use any greyscale) use a totally different engine I doubt I would do that.
What I could maybe try eventually is to make the casing and unlit pixels a bit gray with newprog.
I'll see. :)

Also,
when Stefan is done finding his weird algorithm's, I'll steal them and make a nspire version.
Shouldn't be too hard with all his work done already ;D

Aaah ok. That reminds me, I wonder if those can be jailbroken or something? O.O

Would that allow access to the later game stages if it were possible?

I don't know much about those but I'm sure they're capable of running doom.
I know there are some cheat codes, but those are probably implemented for fun so idk.

Some cheat codes may allow you to access exclusive items. But I guess you would put that in after you've finished programming the standard items and functions.

And I was personally looking forward to seeing great progress on this game, Stefan. But good luck to you and Jim.

It's good to see you haven't left yet though. Some of us were expecting you to leave quite soon. Whatever you do, good luck and I am looking forward to progress on this game!

Well sadly due to the incident that got too far I think they got banned permanently but I could be wrong. It could be 1 week or a bit fewer, though, since I don't think they ever received any long ban before. I would like if they stayed providing they obey to staff.

Banned permanently? Surely not? His profile account doesn't look banned but something could be hidden.
The two of them will unfortunately have to come to terms somehow, either being less active and posting updates now and then, or some other way, if they don't want to leave the calc community completely.

Also about Tamagotchi 89, I'll search for cheat codes and other ways to help if possible.

Cheat codes? I don't believe there are any. Maybe some to get twins are something.
The only cool cheat would be character selection, but I am pretty sure that doesn't exist.

???
I'm a bit confused now.
there are cheat codes for Tamagotchi v2,3,4 etc, but not sure about the original ones though.

Yes, but with I meant that those implemented cheat codes were, if there were any, would probably be stuff like twins are some bug testing. Sadly nothing really that could help me.

But I'm glad you want to help. :)
