Title: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Gale on March 17, 2010, 07:31:38 pm
Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a layout/map of all the functions on the TI-83/84 calcs, because I hate having to search through CATALOG on my calc to find functions that I don't know the normal location of.

I use Omnicalc to give me quick access to frequently used commands like seq(

"...press VARS twice to access the custom menu...Your custom menu will be empty at first. To put a function in a slot in the custom menu, go to the catalog by pressing 2nd+Catalog. Scroll to the function you want to insert and press On and the number of the slot to fill. For example, to put abs( in slot 4 you would scroll to abs( and press On+4. To remove a function from the custom menu, first press VARS twice to access the menu. Scroll to the item and press Del."

Do you have omnicalc installed? And are you pressing them at the same time?

also if you have omnicalc, then you have to make sure the quick menu or something like that is checked in the omnicalc.

Does this feature works in OS 2.53 MP btw?

@Gale
Might be that an app like xLib/CelticIII is conflicting; open the Omnicalc app, and reinstall it.  Ought to work.

Confirmed not to work in OS 2.53MP in either mode. (MP/CLASSIC)

Aaah ok.

Also, for those who would like it, Texas Instruments got a CATALOG help app that displays the syntax of every command when pressing + in the CATALOG menu. This can become useful when you don't have internet access nearby nor a TI manual/printed BASIC doc handy. I'm not sure if these apps still works when Omnicalc/xLIB/Symbolic/CelticIII hooks are installed, though.

It's a really, really nice App.  It even worked for me with Mirage, CalcUtil, Omnicalc (without the hooks), and Catalog Help all installed at once.  Unfortunately, it doesn't work on OS2.53MP. :(

I'd recommend getting Catalog Help. ;D

yeah, i tried uninstalling xLIB and C3 and uninstalling/installing and adding all of omnicalcs options and it still doesn't work. i have OS 2.22 also... haha.

I'm not sure, but it might be an OS problem, since that's such a low OS.  I'd try it on 2.43, but I'm not sure if this is the problem. :)

I'm not too sure where it is avaliable anymore on their site, if it's avaliable at all. You will have to check TI-BANK site, probably x.x

@Ztrumpet, since it's just an OS, I guess it is fine, since downloading the OS is not illegal. Also TI-BANK is affiliated with Texas Instruments, so maybe they got permission.

Aw, it didn't link to the right page.  Let me try it without translating.

I think it's 2.43, though the screenie says 2.41... ;)

Nah, if you wait a minute, this post will get the zip. :)  Plus 2.53 has incompatibilities with a bunch of stuff. =\

Edit: Here, but remember: This is Ti's, not mine.  It comes from the link above. :)

edit from later: Zip edited out...

ah thank you! how long does an OS update usually take? because last time i tried to install a new OS (2.53) it was taking 45+ minutes and not giving me any progress. nothing happened xD
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 18, 2010, 06:24:12 pm
Sometimes it takes a few retries. it might have failed halfway through transfer and you may have to kill transfer then resend the OS again x.x, hopefully not. But normally for me it takes 15 minutes for a 83+SE
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: ztrumpet on March 18, 2010, 06:24:49 pm
I'm not sure.  I only did it once, from my sister's 83+ to my 83+se.  (Os 1.19)  It took less than 10 minutes, though. :)

Hey if you are looking for a printable version, use this:
http://education.ti.com/downloads/guidebooks/graphing/84p/TI84PlusGuidebook_EN.pdf (http://education.ti.com/downloads/guidebooks/graphing/84p/TI84PlusGuidebook_EN.pdf)
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Gale on March 18, 2010, 06:34:49 pm
you read all the way to page 364? o.O and thank you :D

and should the OS downloader just display "Device Upgrading. Please Wait...." the whole time? or will a progress bar show up? and how can you stop the calc from automatically shutting off during the update?
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: SirCmpwn on March 18, 2010, 06:36:34 pm
Lol I read the whole manual over time when I got my calculator ;).  Also, APD is automatically disabled while sending an OS.  So to speak.  And you should eventually see a progress bar.

Well if you are on irc sometime after 5:11 and before 6:11 MST I might be able to help you get 2.43
EDIT also, what do you mean you can't open zips from there?
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 18, 2010, 06:45:07 pm
One thing:

In the case on the calc you see a % progress, keep in mind it will get stuck at 0 for a while. It actually jumps by multiples of 7. Don't ask me why TI did that. The first time I upgraded my bro's OS, I thought it froze and i removed a battery x.x

Quite misleading from TI part

Also, his computer has a security system that lets him download from Omnimaga, but not from many other sites. :)

yeah i can only get zips from ticalc and this site. and somehow it installed 2.53 on me x.x so why is 2.53 bad again?

AND THE OMNICALC SHORTCUT MENU STILL DOESN'T WORK D:<

Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Eeems on March 18, 2010, 06:59:13 pm
What reason exactly? Like are there any work arounds?
Well that would probably be that you possibly were installing the wrong file. 2.53MP isn't comparable with a lot of things. Omnicalc and xlib included.
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 18, 2010, 07:03:47 pm
2.53 is good for the new features, but it's also bad because it runs slower in overall, especially with mathPring turned ON, some BASIC games has display glitches and some ASM programs using hooks won,t run properly

And ouch about the RAM clear, but personally, I never relied much on RAM Recovery. I have bad memories of messed up calc when using this. It failed pretty often for me and I was on an Omnicalc compatible OS (1.14 and 1.18)
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Gale on March 18, 2010, 07:03:56 pm
nahh, it's just my computer's security program that my dad set. i told him to let me download stuff from this site, and he agreed but only this site x.x

and do you think it would work with 2.43? and maybe we should go over this again... so to set a function to a custom menu i:

1.Press VARS twice
2.Press 2nd -> catalog
3.scroll down to the function i want (i want Asm(   ) to be my first one)
4.press ON button and 1 button at the same time.

right?

Here, try this: http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/400/40029.html (http://www.ticalc.org/archives/files/fileinfo/400/40029.html)
I no longer keep anything in the RAM, its all ROM now.  That way, I don't loose anything after a RAM reset (which happens a lot, believe me), and I can run asm programs from the home screen and such easier.

AND THE OMNICALC SHORTCUT MENU STILL DOESN'T WORK D:<
Try resetting your RAM.  I do it all the time for bugs.

Back it up really quick, then do a master reset ([2nd]+Mem, 7, Left, Enter, Down, Enter).  Then, install some OS other than TIOS onto it.  Re-install 2.43, and put only what you need back on.  See if it works, then start putting more stuff on one at a time.  That might work.
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Gale on March 18, 2010, 07:25:34 pm
it wont let me do backups! any time TiConnect tries to access my calculator, my calc turns off and disconnects from TiConnect and clears RAM.

This is the series of events:

1. Attempt to backup. Backup window shows.
2. Error window pops up
2.a. *look at calculator* a little down arrow appears on the spot where the cursor is. Any button press doesn't work.
3. I Turn off the calculator
4. Turn back on -> RAM cleared, disconnected from TiConnect
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: SirCmpwn on March 18, 2010, 07:27:04 pm
Hmm...
Well, if you re-install TIOS, it shouldn't clear your ROM, so you can try that first.

Good luck, otherwise, you could always wait for a couple years until a stable and useful 3rd party OS comes out and install it ;)

it can, in some cases. I don't know when, but in some cases, some people lost theri entire ram and archive after resending an OS.

did you try downloading the OS from his post?

http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=1704.0;attach=892

It should be 2.43, because the OS inside the zip file is dated from 2008.

I'll have to take that file down eventually, though, in case TI would notice.

Sorry to hear that :/

Just one correction:
hmphh, i assumed omnicalc would protect my ram after the OS update

Omnicalc does not "protect" RAM; rather, it offers a way to quickly restore your RAM.  After a RAM-clear, double tap PRGM, go to "MISC", select "RestoreMem(", and then press enter. Tada, RAM restored.
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on March 18, 2010, 09:37:24 pm
I think it might be what he means, but I'm not sure, it might be RAM protection as no reset. But yeah rthprog is right, except for one thing: RestoreMem( doesn't restore RAM 100% of the time  ;D (it might depend if you run other ASM programs while Omnicalc is installed, though)
Title: Re: TI-83/84 Function Map
Post by: Gale on March 19, 2010, 03:02:50 pm
also, you can't use omnicalc on OS 2.53MP, thus i couldn't use the restoreMem function.

and i downloaded the OS from his post twice, and both times it gave my calc OS 2.53 =/

Strange, then it means there must have been a glitch on TI-BANK website, causing OS 2.53 to be dated from 2 years ago, because I double-checked the date and it's really 2008

Yup this link is OK since it's from TI site. Actually it's OK for TI-BANK too, since OSes are not illegal to download, but it makes it easier for the other site to get caught by TI :(, again tho, TI is affiliate with TI-BANK, so...

But glad you found a copy! So TI offers OS 2.43 only on specific country versions of their site?

Nah, don't worry, TI OSes are only in english. To have different languages you need to install language apps like Français
