Title: New forum???
Post by: The_King on November 07, 2013, 09:49:46 pm
For sometime, I have been struggling with lua (well i am a newcomer) and sometimes with Ti nspire basic. And ndless keeps on getting better and beyond my capabilities.
So yesterday i got this idea to set up a new forum just for help related ti nspire

I need the Omnimaga community's input about the idea.

I will check this everyday to see your input

The poll will last for a month--- enough time for me see if it is a good idea and if it is to find a suitable hosting site.

So bring it on

I am unsure if a brand new TI forum would be a good idea, when Omnimaga and Cemetech are both struggling to remain active (both have four times fewer posts per week than three years ago). It will only dillute the community even further. I think it would be best to ask TI-Nspire questions on the already existing Omnimaga's Nspire sub-forums. We have C and Lua ones, as well as general help and other languages. TI-Planet has some too and they allow English discussion despite being a French site.

Just look at what happened to http://www.ti-84-plus.com/forum/index.php in terms of activity since it started over a year ago.

I agree, you're better asking your Nspire Lua and Basic questions on an already established forum with lots of members like Omnimaga and Cemetech. On a new forum it'll probably take forever answering your questions. If you get a decent amount of new members, that is, which will probably take forever because new people will prefer already established forums.

Btw, activity-wise, this is an example of what I meant:

Monthly post stats for October by year:
2005: 746
2006: 2150
2007: 1834
2008: 475 (site closed from March 4th to August 25th 2008)
2009: 829
2010: 12041
2011: 9934
2012: 3313
2013: 3134

2010 was after Ndless, the PRIZM and Axe. Lua was discovered in 2011 and the 84+CSE/Prime came out in 2013. So it's up to you to judge if a fourth forum can compete against the existing ones. The first Omnimaga forum in 2004 averaged at 10 posts per month, so Good luck (keep in mind that advertising other calc sites here isn't allowed except your sig).

O.O

EDIT: Wasn't nDoom one of the activity boost factor?

Nah nDoom arrived in January and it made various blogs around late Feb 2011. I think October 2010 was due to the Casio PRIZM, Axe, Ndless and the many anti-TI rants due to the anti-downgrade BS. Back in the days, literally half of Omnimaga calculator discussion was Nspire-related.

Yeah, that was an idea. It takes quite a bit of experience to make a successful forum. If you want a successful forum, it's most of the time a bad idea to compete with already existing forums, instead either it's tied to your website about your projects, you do it about something nobody really did before, you have a large number of followers in the first place and you're respected in the community or you're involved in an admin fight in your already established forum (ex. TI-Planet).

EDIT: welp, you 1. double posted (please use the edit button) and 2. didn't noticed your last post.

Inter-admin fights, I remember the Drubu Productions days >.<. SiCoDe in the late 90's was apparently much more worse, though.
