Title: [Axe] [2012 Apocalpyse Contest] EndGam3
Post by: Matrefeytontias on November 15, 2012, 01:09:15 pm
So, here's my entry for the 2012 Apocalypse Contest !

EndGam3 will be a 4 greyscale RPG, with a storyline inspired from the anime Eleven Eyes :)

*Insert your name here*, a guy like many others, were having a normal life in your village of *insert your village here*. Suddenly, rumours about the moon morphing into "red void" lead to unusual events, which strangely give you strong headaches ...

For now, this storyline is the only thing I made, so be sure that I'll work actively on it ;D (I doubt that I'll finish it)

I planned approximately one or two hours of gameplay, with several mini-bosses (and a big bad boss of course), and a Golden Sun-like battle system.

I'll keep this thread updated, share comments :)

Sounds interesting!  It also sounds very ambitious, and I would just put out a small word of warning not to bite off more than you can chew and then have nothing finished in time for the deadline.  It has happened many many times in the past, so just keep that in mind while you go on developing this game :)

Sounds nice. Just make sure to not literally make the story directly related to Golden Sun or even rename the game to Golden Sun, though, because in 2005 an Omnimaga staff got a cease and desist letter (mise en demeure) from Camelot due to a Golden Sun project D:.

And yeah what Builder said. Hopefully a 2 hours long game shouldn't be too hard, though. Just make sure to not start at the last minute and make sure to backup often.

Update !

I've done the introduction, a custom text display routine and a custom input routine :)

The game will start with you waking up from a nightmare right after this cinematic.

As you can see, it's already 3K4 :/

EDIT : you don't see it but there's contrast effects :P

Moon turns into a red void? Interesting...
If the moon was a void, wouldn't that mean it would pretty much just disappear? :P

No, void is something, so it's visible ;D it would just be a red hole in a normal sky.

Looks nice so far. :D Also yeah I think the only emulator where contrast effects work properly is PindurTI.

Did you mean 34K?  Or 3.4K? Lol I don't know what 3K4 means.  Looking good though!  I'm excited to see what the engine will look like.

3k4 = 3004?

I think it means 3.4KB; that's the size of the file.
1500th post!

Yeah, it's 3.4k :P I've taken the habit of writing 3k4.

Thanks :)

But I awfully need sprites ... I doubt that I'll release it in time for the contest :(

EDIT : well, if someone wants to save a project, he can PM me :) Of course, if I win he'll have a part of the reward.

Hmm, I am not good with sprites, but one piece of advice I have is not to get hung up on sprites! I typically make graphics my last priority. Once the game is mostly done and playable, then you should add in the graphics :D

Yeah, you're right, but I need them at least to render maps, and see if everything is going well :P same for enemies and items.

Up,

since I'm busy with school and also other projects I started before this one, I'm nearly sure that I should abort this project, at least as a contest entry.

But don't worry, I got interested in that concept, so you'll see this game a day, but way after the contest :)

It sucks you couldn't finish this for the contest, but glad you still plan to complete it some day :)

Well, IMO competitions aren't about winning or even participating, it is more to motivate the people to program, which was in your case a success! :D
