Hey guys,
I've been reluctant about making a thread for this as I wanted it to be my secret project, but tifreak convinced me, so here it is :P
Faces is a 3D space shooter taking place in a distant (and much unlikely to happen) future where a rebel armada took over many planets of the universe to do rebellion-related stuffs. Your mission, as an agent sent by the official government, is to free these planets by destroying the turrets the rebellion put on them.
The game is far from finished and not really enjoyable as the enemies don't have sprites, don't fire and die with one shot, I have only one planet (although the level format/loading is working) among other things.
BUT ! All the 3D rendering is done, XY rotations are working, planets are solid, I have a beautiful stars background, 3D collisions between your laser and the faces of the planet and the enemies are done, score with custom font is working (thanks Keoni29 from Omnimaga for the font), everything running at 20 FPS at 6 MHz on my TI-83+.fr. :D
So, let's have a little screenshot, shall we ?

I don't post a demo for now because I don't think it's really worth it, but if you want to try anyway with the few things you can do with it, just ask and I'll post it :P

It sure looks epic. O.O
-
^that, it just looks amazing
-
Thanks :) I started it like 3 months ago :P

New subtitle : "Ph34r m4h l4z0r"
/me is never writing le et again.
-
especially love the cubish planet :P and the background is cool
-
Wow this is really cool. To make it more realistic, though, you should make the background scroll faster.

That wouldn't look as good on calc I think because of the blurry screen.
-
Crosshairs would be a nice addition, as you seem to be missing a lot in the screenshot. :P
-
That would make it too easy. Keep it this way. Maybe add momentum. That would look cool. Not too much though, so it does not get annoying and impossible to control.
-
Well, since we're in space, it should be impossible to control ... I might think of non-reducing momentum, since there is no friction to slow the ship down, that'd be fun :P
-
Can you make it so enemies fly towards you from the planet?
-
Turrets don't fly ::) but they will be shooting at you, sure.
-
Looks magnificent :).

Turrets don't fly
Give 'em wings!
But yeah, maybe they can launch like spaceships to shoot at you from unexpected angles?

The only issue i see is by adding lots of other stuff you are increasing the development time and this has caused significant delays in some projects.
I for one am very guilty of trying to add so much extra stuff to projects that it ends up killing them :(.
I think the game looks sweet as it is. If you add the features you were planning on and get it to release it will be a great achievement.
-
Hey calm down >_> remember that it's Axe and it must run fast even at 6MHz. I try to do as few things as possible while keeping the game interesting, because the FPS will rapidly lower as I add things in the program.
EDIT : ninja'd, I was talking to Sorunome :P I totally agree with tr1p1ea.

Not bad!

When I saw the title I thought this was like face raider, I'm not sure I understand the name, but it looks great though.

Same with me!

I called it Faces because the "planets" will always be polyhedras, and the goal of the game is to get rid of all the enemies that are on all faces of the polyhedra.

How many levels are there? is there a level editor?
-
It would be cool if there was a timer and you had to shoot as many turrets as you could in 30 seconds or something, and they regenerated every few seconds.

Nothing is out, not even the game, which is actually not a game yet. I didn't plan additional levels though, because making a level editor for this would really be very hard, and I don't feel like doing it. I don't know how many levels will be there, hopefully around 30.

What I planned for the game is that you'll have to destroy the turrets before the timer goes to 0, and without being killed by enemy fire. Maybe I'll add like an arcade mode where you'd shoot as many turrets as possible within a preset time, yeah.

I thought I might try to make a title screen for this game.
Here's what I have so far:

Mh, it doesn't look like the game, I don't know how to say that ... I think we should see more the themes of space and 3D in it.
-
How's this?

Wow, I'll definitely keep this :D thanks a lot, and congrats !

Thanks! I like making title screens, actually. ;)
-
What about a titlescreen where the available choices are on a 3D cube ? Might bring problems with textures but that would give a very great effect.
-
For instance, the Transformers game menu is on a cube, try inspiring yourself from this UI! ;)
-
Title screen on 3D-cube would be awesome, even though spyros also looks nice :)
-
I would have to add surface texturing only for a menu >.< forget that, I'll go with good ol' title screen (for instance Spyro543's one).
-
Don't you already have surface texturing for the dots on the main cube?
Also, how about having *fake 3d*, that the menu text is normal, only the bg makes it look like it was on a 3D-cube?
-
I have no surface texturing, it's only inidividual 3D dots placed on faces o.O
And I want to stick with classic 2D menu.

Well I guess so, seeing the speed of the whole thing :P surface texturing is slow
